This study is about the features of hybridization of ethnic-cultural elements in Korean fashion magazines. Its purpose was to embody more creative and newer images in fashion by promoting better mutual understanding of foreign cultures and addressing the issues of fashion design from multicultural perspectives. In doing so, the present study conducted a literature review and analyzed a total of 130 photographic images with any hybrid ethic element from two Korean fashion magazines, Vogue Korea and Harper's Bazaar Korea, issued between 2005 and 2009. The analysis revealed that there were 66 images(50.8%) with a mixture of two different cultures and 64 images(49.2%) with a mixture of three or more different cultures. As seen from the results, the two categories had a similar number of cases. In regional terms, the use of two different cultural elements included a mixture of Asian and Western cultures in 32 images(24.6%), a mixture of Western and African, Middle Eastern or Latin American cultures in 23(17.7%), and a mixture of Western and Russian or European folk cultures in 11(8.5%). In the use of three or more different cultural/national elements, the present study found a mixture of Asian, African, Middle Eastern, Latin American and Western costume items in 20 photo images(15.4%), a mixture of African, Middle Eastern and Latin American elements plus Western costume items in 19 images( 14.6%), a mixture of all regional cultures in 13 photos(10%), and a mixture of Asian ethic cultures plus Western costume items in 12 cases(9.2%). The results of this analysis indicated that the hybridization of ethnic-culture elements in Korean fashion magazines consisted of diverse clothing and accessories from various ethnic groups. The expression of these multi-cultural hybrid images that consists background images and models from different cultures well-portrayed the multi-cultural elements based on total coordination and broke the stereotypical aspects of styling.

The genus Burkholderia consists of extremely versatile bacteria that occupy diverse niches and are commonly encountered in the rhizosphere of crop plants. In this study, we characterized three plant growth promoting strains assigned as Burkholderia sp. using biochemical and molecular characterization. The Burkholderia spp. strains CBMB40, CBPB-HIM, and CBPB-HOD were characterized using biochemical tests, BIOLOG carbon substrate utilization, fatty acid methyl ester analysis, analysis of recA gene sequences, and DNA-DNA hybridization. The results from these studies indicated that the strains CBMB40, CBPB-HIM, and CBPB-HOD can be assigned under Burkholderia vietnamiensis, Burkholderia ubonensis, and Burkholderia pyrrocinia, respectively.

This study examines the various expressions and immanent value of fashion and beauty style based on Craig Owens's Allegory theory. I analyzed four application elements of Borrow, Site Specificity, Accumulation of Strategy, and Hybridization in? Ladygaga's Music Videos. The results are as follows. 'Borrow' presents a kitsch style and playful Pop-art style, transformation of gender from Mini Mouse body suit, telephone headpiece, and can hair. 'Site specificity' presents the temporarity of fashion material through rebirth, aging, natural extinction from the chain over the black jump suit, crime scene tape, and skull-face makeup with masculine style. 'Accumulation of strategy' presents a futuristic chic fashion style from a layered style, retrospective fashion, repetition and duplication in Music Videos. It shows the physical beauty of an Asian warrior style in Poker Face. 'Hybridization' present Cyborg feminism and 'Will of Power' from iPOD LCD glasses and Pyro-Bra. The Pyro-Bra represents how the female body can be used as a weapon in the outfits of Lady Gaga. In addition, Immanent value is as follows. Textual interaction with high art is accomplished through a combination of contemporary social and cultural significance to understand the cultural code and to extend the value. Combined with high culture, popular music genre is accomplished through musical appreciation by a woman in fashion styling and sensual pleasures of the body as a tool to express a sublime advantage. Fashion style is accomplished by overcoming a self-transcendent body image representation. The way in which mutual coupling dismantling, destruction, and uncertainty is to re-launch the static, with a pluralistic context of Textuality.

Unknown bacterium isolated from garlic was characterized using phenotypic methods, phylogenetic analysis, DNA-DNA hybridization, and cultural methods. The strain was identified as typical leuconostoc; Gram-positive, non-sporeforming, heterofermentative, catalase-negative and spherical. Although its 16S rRNA gene sequence showed high homology to Leuconostoc argentinum DSM $8581^T$(99.8%), DNA-DNA hybridization experiments indicated it represents novel genomic species in the genus Leuconostoc. The garlic-specific leuconostoc was more resistant to antimicrobial activity of garlic compared to other common laboratory lactic acid bacteria, and was even stimulated by low concentrations (1-2%) of garlic extract supplemented in trypticase soy broth. Growth stimulation was concentration-dependent when tested with residual aqueous layer after solvent extraction of fresh whole garlic extract.

컴퓨터에 의해 촉발된 디지털 미디어 기술은 그 발전 속도가 나날이 가속화되어, 현재는 과학기술 분야뿐만 아니라 사회 문화적으로 확장되어 커다란 영향력을 갖게 되었다. 이러한 확장과 영향력에 대해 국내에서는 '디지털 컨버전스'라는 용어로 축약되어 설명될 수 있는데, 에드몽 꾸쇼(Edmond Couchot)는 'hybridization' 이라는 용어로 설명한 바 있다. 슈필만과 볼터(Yvonne Spielmann and Jay David Bolter)는 이러한 혼성적인 디지털 미디어 작품들은 이미지, 텍스트, 사운드, 공간 그리고 구체적 표현 방법 등의 다양한 범위의 재현 형식을 넘나들며 통합되고 있다고 하였으며, 이러한 혼성적인 특성 중 실재(real)적인 것과 가상(virtual)적인 것의 융합으로 인해 이루어지는 상호소통에 대해 다루어야 함을 역설한 바 있다. 본 논문에서는 실재와 가상이 융합된 결과물의 형태로 보여지는 혼합 현실 환경에 주목하여 이러한 적극적인 상호소통을 필요로 하는 양극의 주체인 과학기술과 문화예술간의 적절한 접점으로 수렴되고 있는 분야 중의 하나인 혼합현실형 공공 문화콘텐츠를 예를 들어 미디어아트에서 시도되었던 방법들과 그에 대한 확장된 해석을 통해 과학과 예술을 현대적으로 화합시키는 방법에 대한 연구를 통해 과학과 예술의 수렴을 지향하는 간학제적 관점을 논구하고자 한다.

In an attempt to demonstrate in context of Nietzsche's "overman" (ubermensch) and Heidegger's "Being-in-the-World" (Dasein) the collective human efforts to overcome humanism in crisis, I will provide the ground for the poetics of overcoming, the ground which are based upon the double movements of transhumanism and transnationalism. For this purpose, I will turn to the theories of two distinctive poets who reveal and disreveal their truths about the subjecthood or the subjectivity in terms of overcoming: Christopher Dewdney for posthuman transhumanity and Dionisio D. Martinez for transnational cultural contamination Transhumanism represented by Christopher Dewdney manifests an interfusion of outside and inside, thereby collapsing the boundary between the mind and the world, and provides a breakthrough from the limitedly defined mind to the transhuman perspective of overcoming by using terminalogy and techniques from science and technology. The emerging transhumanism reflects the growing interdependence between humans and bio technologies, and suggests a potential improvement of human beings. The main argument of transhumanism is that we humans can and should continue to develop in all possible directions, by overcoming our human limitations by shedding the body and having the disembodied consciousness which will liberate our mind. Kwame Anthony Appiah's "cultural contamination" is another form of overcoming as well as a way to otherness, a counter-ideal of cultural purity which sustains authentic culture, reversing the traditional binary opposition between enriching authenticity and threatening hybridization. Dionisio Martinez's poetry sublimates the negative side of Appiah's concept of contamination, by redeeming the value of the Appiah's list of the ideal of contamination such as hybridity, impurity, intermingling, the transformation that comes of new and unexpected combinations of human beings, a bit of this and a bit of that is how newness enters the world. When a poetic subject is doubly exiled and doubly homeless away from his/her native homeland and home of native language, one has no more identification with the authentic culture of both home and away, but rather anticipates a new identity as a transnational subject to cross the bridge beyond cultural authenticity and to enter into the field of cultural contamination.

본 논문에서는 우리나라에 거주하는 국제결혼이주여성을 대상으로 국적별로 지역적 분포를 분석한 후, 충청북도에 거주하고 있는 국제결혼이주여성을 대상으로 시 군별 국적별 지역적 분포, 이주과정, 사회 경제적 특성을 분석하고자 하였다. 또한 우리나라 전체 시 군을 대상으로 국제결혼이주여성의 지역적 분포와 관련해서는 특화계수를 이용하여 범주화 하였고, 충북 지역에 대해서는 토마스법을 사용하여 지역별로 대표되는 국제결혼이주여성의 국적을 유형화하여 분석하였다. 초국가주의는 세계화의 진전에 따라 국경을 초월한 이주가 발생함으로써 지리적으로 격리되어 있던 두 사회가 하나의 사회네트워크로 연결되는 현상을 설명하는 개념으로서, 국가를 벗어나는 초국경적 현상을 설명하는 점에서 세계화 개념과 유사하지만, 이민자들에게 내재된 사회 공간적 구조, 사회 네트워크의 국제적 분산, 초국가적 정체성, 문화적 혼성화 등을 다루는데 유용하다.

This study examines the conceptual characteristics of fantasy movies. It also studies the process of socio-cultural changes of the mythical images such as heroes, goddesses and the devil that have often become the centre of fantasy movie characters. This study further examines the features of each character that correspond to specific mythical images. The purpose of this research is to suggest the conceptual and aesthetic characteristics of fantasy reflected in the characters and the costumes of fantasy movies, which were released since the year 2000. The followings are the results of the research: The conceptual characteristics of fantasy reflected in the characters and the costumes of fantasy movies are summarized as representation of reality, allegory and symbols, horror, desire, deconstruction and metamorphosis, otherness and counter-cultural sentiments. The aesthetic characteristics of the costumes of fantasy movies are defined as typicality and symbolism, grotesqueness, sensuality, hybridization, and otherness. These characteristics are very interconnected. The costumes of heroic characters appearing in fantasy movies show strong side of standard while the costumes of the evil characters revealed the limit of dualistic point of worldview centered on West. Heroic characters show realistic and human side that reflects the ethos of the time. Negative characters such as the devil or witches, which were created in human imagination and emotion, become the dynamic force of fantasy movies through their deviant actions. Their clothes, with variety and hybridization, become the source of creativity expected in present society.

Analysis of breeding gains in grain yield has been intensively conducted in wheat, barley, oat, maize, and soybean. Such information is limited in rice. The objective of this study was to compare the breeding gains and cultural gains contributed to yield gains of Korean rice varieties since early 1900s. Two sets of yield data were used for analysis; the historical yield data of 1908 for old japonica cultivars, and present yield data in the years from 1996 to 1998 for the six cultivars, consisting of previous two old cultivars and four contemporary cultivars. The old cultivars were two native cultivars, Jodongi and Damageum, while contemporary cultivars were two premium quality japonica cultivars, Hwaseongbyeo and Dongjinbyeo, and two Tongil-type cultivars, high yielding cultivars developed from indica/japonica hybridization, Milyang23 and Dasanbyeo. The yield differences of old cultivars between the experiments in 1908 and the experiments from 1996 to 1998 were estimated as cultural gains (1.84 tons $\textrm{ha}^{-1}$) due to the improvement of cultivation technology. Yield differences between the old cultivars and contemporary cultivars were considered total yield gains during the periods. These were 2.51 tons $\textrm{ha}^{-1}$ for japonica cultivars and 3.81 tons $\textrm{ha}^{-1}$ for Tongil-type cultivars. From these data, the genetic gain of 0.67 tons $\textrm{ha}^{-1}$ and 1.97 tons $\textrm{ha}^{-1}$ were estimated for japonica cultivars and Tongil-type cultivars respectively. The ratio between cultural gain and genetic gain appeared to be 2.7:1 for japonica cultivars and 1:1 for Tongil-type cultivars. This analysis clearly showed the higher genetic contribution in Tongil-type cultivars than in japonica cultivars, suggesting a guideline to be used when planning new yield improvement programs. Additional implication has emerged when a better yield response to modem cultivation technology was found in one of the old cultivars, suggesting the combined improvement between breeding and cultural improvement is necessary for attaining the maximum yield capacity of a crop.

한국형 블록버스터는 호미 바바의 문화적 혼성주의가 표명하는 두 문화간의 만남과 충돌의 변증법으로 완성된 작품들이다. '한국형'과 '블록버스터'가 한국적이라는 것과 서구적인 것을 나뉘어 대표하고 있으면서도 그 경계는 해체되고 변증법적으로 혼합되어 혼성적이고 복합적인 새로운 하나를 탄생시킨다. 한국형 블록버스터로 대표되는 [쉬리], [JSA], [실미도], [태극기 휘날리며]는 분단 이데올로기라는 한국적 특수성을 이슈화하는 민족적 서사를 내용으로 하고 있으면서 그 표현양식과 제작방식은 지극히 서구적 보편성에 충실한 스타일로 바바의 문화적 혼성성의 특성을 고스란히 담고 있다. 문화적 혼성주의를 통해 한국 영화 미학의 현주소를 탐구해 보고자 한다.
