  • The three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method and the two-dimensional quasi-static formulation have been used to calculate the characteristic impedance and the microwave effective index of coplanar waveguide structures on Lithium Niobate ($LiNBO_3$) single crystal substrates with a yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) or $SiO_2$ buffer layer. The results shown can be a good source to predict the modulator characteristics. The effects of the thin buffer layer and anisotropy of the $LiNBO_3$ crystal (x-cut and z-cut) are discussed. The comparison between the FDTD and quasi-static results shows good agreement. In this paper, the efficient modeling technique of the FDTD method for the coplanar waveguide (CPW) structures based on an anisotropic substrate with a thin buffer layer is developed.

  • The optical characteristics of merocyanine dyes have been investigated widely due to their possible application to the high efficiency photo-electric devices. The optical systems are mostly fabricated using vacuum evaporation. casting and Langmuir-Blodgett method and the arrangement and orientation of dye molecules is one of the most important factors in the study on the optical characteristics. In this study. we fabricated the molecular systems through the LB techniques and investigated the optical characteristics of merocyanine dye LB film using the oscillation characteristics of quartz crystal. It was quite interesting behavior that the resistance and frequency shift at the parallel resonance under the UV irradiation.

  • Developing effective and earth-abundant electrocatalyst for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is critical for the commercialization of a water splitting system. In particular, the overpotential of the OER is relatively higher than the HER, and thus, it is considered that one of the important methods to enhance the performance of the electrocatalyst is to reduce the overpotential of the OER. We report effects of incorporation of metalloid into Ni(OH)2 microcrystal on electrocatalytic activities. In this study, Te incorporated Ni(OH)2 (Te-Ni(OH)2) were grown on three-dimensional porous NF by a facile solvothermal method with = 1, 3 and 5. Homogeneous microplate structure on the NF was clearly observed for the Ni(OH)2/NF and Te-Ni(OH)2/NF samples. However, irregular and collapsed nanostructures were found on the surface of nickel foam when Te precursor ratio is () over 3. Electrocatalytic OER properties were analysed by Linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) and Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The amount of Te incorporation used in the electrocatalytic reaction was found to play a crucial role in improving catalytic activity. The optimum Te amount () introduced into the Ni(OH)2/NF was discussed with respect to their OER performance.

  • We review the evolution of electrochemical studies of conducting polymers into the current state-of-the-art based primarily on our work. While conventional electrochemical experiments sufficed for the needs in the phase of studies of both electrochemical synthesis and characterization of conducting polymers, developments of various new experimental techniques have led to their introduction to this field for more refined information. As a result, the conventional electrochemical, spectroelectrochemical, electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance, impedance, and morphological as well as electrical characterization studies all made important contributions to a better understanding of the polymerization mechanisms and the conductive properties of these classes of polymers. From this review, we hereby expect that the electrochemical techniques will continue to play important roles in bringing this field to the practical applications such as nanoscale electronic devices.

  • Optical and electrical properties of GaSe:$Er^{3+}$ single crystals grown by the Bridgeman technique was been investigated by using optical absorption and Hall-effect measurements. The Hall coefficients were measured by using a high impedance electrometer in the temperature range from 360K to 150K. The temperature dependence of hole concentration shows the characteristic of a partially compensated p-type semiconductor. carrier density($N_H$) of GaSe doped with Erbium was measured about $3.25{\times}10^{16}\;[cm^{-3}}$ at temperature 300K, which was high than undoped specimen. Photon energy gap ($E_{gd}$) was measured about 1.7geV.

ICP, SEM and XRD analysis were conducted to study the main factor which influence the Li+ ion conductivity. Li+ ion conductivity seems to have a close relationship with the crystal structure of primitive cell increase as the primitive cell as close to cubic.

  • The introduction of two-grid inside a conventional process system produces a reactive coating deposition and increases metal ion ratio in the plasma, resulting in denser and smoother films. The corrosion behaviors of TiN coatings were investigated by electrochemical methods, such as potentiodynamic polarization test and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) in deaerated 3.5% NaCl solution. Electrochemical tests were used to evaluate the effect of microstructure on the corrosion behavior of TiN coatings exposed to a corrosive environment. The crystal structure of the coatings was examined by X-ray diffractometry (XRD) and the microstructure of the coatings was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron spectroscopy (TEM). In the potentiodynamic polarization test and EIS measurement, the corrosion current density of TiN deposited by two grid-attached magnetron sputtering was lower than TiN deposited by conventional magnetron type and also presented higher Rct values during 240 h immersion time. It is attributed to the formation of a dense microstructure, which promotes the compactness of coatings and yields lower porosity.

  • Conducting polymer films grown from various aromatic compounds have been evaluated as overcharge protecting additives for lithium ion rechargeable batteries. The polymer films were grown electrochemically under the conditions similar to those encountered during the overcharging processes of lithium batteries and subsequently characterized by potentiodynamic, electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance, electrochemical impedance spectroscopic, and scanning electron microscopic experiments. Results indicate that bicyclic and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons would be poor candidates for inhibitors, while biphenyl, terphenyl, and benzene derivatives displayed excellent performances. Mixed polymer films grown from o-terphenyl and p-xylene show the best performance among the candidates.

  • In this study, we analyzed and experimented micro-strip line inductors and capacitors for a SAW duplexer, an important devise for mobile communication. For SAW duplexers, micro-strip line lumped elements must have small impedance values, below several tens of nH or several tens of pF, and a small area pattern. In this study, we performed theoretical analysis of flat line type, meander line type, and spiral line type inductors and interdigital capacitors on a LiTaO$_3$ Piezo-crystal. We proposed a measurement method to evaluate small values of lumped elements accurately with network analyzer. In experiments, we confirmed validity of the theoretical analysis method through fabrication and characterization of micro-strip line lumped elements. The analysis method in this paper can be applied to SAW duplexers well as other microwave devices.
