In a post-modern society where things exist and events happen in the form of Baudrillardian simulation, alterity of the other is erased and transcendence is denied. Don DeLillo's White Noise depicts what may happen in a society where alterity and transcendence are experienced in the neutral and safe forms. It will be argued in this paper that such phenomena reflect the desire of the self to conquer the others and neutralize the existence of them for the self's enduring safety and accomplishment. However, the attempt must fail due to inevitable death. The invincibility of death reminds one of the limit of his ability and the existence of uncontrollable part of the other. This paper will focus on DeLillo's critique of such a society, the affect of the existence of death as an invincible force, and his message about the way to live under these conditions.

This paper reviews real option theory and its recent application to management studies involving highly risky business. Three problems are identified in previous studies that created confusions in the application of real option view. It is proposed in this paper that by explicitly stating the underlying real asset on which real option is written, researchers can prevent real option analysis from becoming a tautology and clarify three problems identified in this paper.

Gradually, there has been increase in the use of qualitative research methods in nursing research. Nursing scholars are using qualitative research methods to explore the essence of nursing and discover its meaning. However, there has been lack of standards for evaluating qualitative nursing research. Often nursing researchers are applying quantitative research evaluation standards to qualitative nursing research. Thus, there has not been any notable qualitative research done to date. In order to improve the quality of nursing research done to discover new knowledge for the nursing, ＆ for development of nursing theory, criteria for critiquing qualitative research should be established. Therefore, this researcher introduced standards as criteria for critiquing qualitative research which are based on literature reviews and re search experiences. The suggested criteria are developed several question's as follows : 1) description of the research phenomena, 2) significance, 3) research purpose, 4) research question, 5) assumptions, 6) researcher's abilities, 7) selection of research samples, 8) data collection, 9) human subjects, 10) data analysis, 11) description of researcher's results, 12) literature review. Follow-up of concrete questions for each of the criterias have been developed.

Conjugation of the methyl group at the fifth carbon of cytosines within the palindromic dinucleotide 5'-CpG-3' sequence (DNA methylation) is the best studied epigenetic mechanism, which acts together with other epigenetic entities: histone modification, chromatin remodeling and microRNAs to shape the chromatin structure of DNA according to its functional state. The cancer genome is frequently characterized by hypermethylation of specific genes concurrently with an overall decrease in the level of 5-methyl cytosine, the pathological implication of which to the cancerous state has been well established. While the latest genome-wide technologies have been applied to classify and interpret the epigenetic layer of gene regulation in the physiological and disease states, the epigenetic testing has also been seriously explored in clinical practice for early detection, refining tumor staging and predicting disease recurrence. This critique reviews the latest research findings on the use of DNA methylation in cancer diagnosis, prognosis and staging/classification.

Professional journal articles, while eye-catching, nay also be somewhat superficial and formal. In fact, interior design magazines focus on providing images rather than texts to appeal to readers. Thus, it has been difficult for interior design magazines to represent interior designers who are serious about their career. The KOSID Journal, on the other hand, is not a professional journal, but handles current Issues that are most sensitive and important to professional interior designers and provides understanding of contemporary interior design trends. In this respect, this study analyzed the contents of the KOSID Journal, from its founding issue (1983) until it began to serve academic purposes with the establishment of the Interior Design Association in 1992 and discussions of the interior design discourse of the time.

Recently Byeong-Uk Yi has attempted to provide a novel solution to the paradox of before-effect by arguing that, upon drawing our attention to the notion of collective causation, we realize that there is a straightforward solution to the paradox. My aim in this paper is to show that Yi's solution fails. To this end, after making explicit two sources of the puzzlement in the paradox of before-effect, I set two requirements one must meet to resolve the paradox. And I argue that Yi's solution cannot meet both requirements at the same time.

When studying the film industry, researchers have seldom addressed the dynamic interaction between marketing information and word of mouth in the motion picture industry mainly because of the limitation of traditional research methodologies. This study explores integration and competition among important variables influencing on audience's choice on movie selection, particularly by using a new method of agent-based modeling including competitive environment. Decision process of moviegoer composed of transition probability based on multinomial logit model, considering marketing and box-office information, critique, and word of mouth from other moviegoers. After validating the fitness of market share among released movies, this study conducted a set of simulation experiments considering several variables such as market size, change of weight between variables, and movie performance under competition. Propositions are derived from the simulation results is also suggested for future research.

변환 방식의 기계 번역에서 가장 중요한 부분은 변환 단계이며 여기서 변환사전이 매우 중요한 역활을 담당한다. 그러므로 인간이나 기계 번역기에 의해 생성되는 영어 문장은 이들이 가지고 있는 동사 사전의 내용과 효율적인 생성 알고리즘에 의해서 문장의 수준이나 정확성이 결정된다. 이렇게 생성된 문장을 검사하는 기존의 영어 문법 검사기들은 영어권의 사람들을 위주로 만들어졌기 때문에 문법적인 중요한 규정들을 포함하지 않고 있어서 비영어권의 사용자가 이용하기에는 부적절하다. 본 논문에서는 인간이 번역하였거나 기계 번역기에 의해 생성된 문장을 검사하고 교정할 수 있도록, 확장된 동사형을 기반으로 한 동사 사전을 제안하고 이를 이용한 영어 문장 검사기를 구현한다.

최근 제조물 책임(Product Liability) 법의 영향으로 제품 안전(product safety)에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 따라서, 그 동안 시스템 안전 분야에서 성숙되어온 여러 가지 안전성 분석 기법들이 실생활에 직접 연관된 제품 안전 문제에 적용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. 대부분의 안전성 분석 기법들이 제품 안전을 다를 수 있는 가능성을 가지고 있지만, 응용분야의 특성상 여러 가지 추가적인 고려사항이 있음을 알 수 있다. 본 논문은 제품 안전에 적용하기 위하여 기존의 안전성 분석 기법들을 검토하였다. 특히, 제품안전의 실무에 시급한 기법을 선정하여, 제품안전의 실무를 효과적으로 지원하기 위한 예로 FMEA의 개선방향을 제시하였다. 제조물 책임 개념이 단순히 소송이나 보험과 같은 사후 대응 중심의 노력으로 소모되지 않고, 제품의 경쟁력 향상으로 실효를 거두기 위해서는, 무엇보다 제품 안전을 위한 실무 방법론들이 시급하게 제시되어야할 것이다.(중략)

The purpose of this study is to develope instructional strategies and assessment model for distance learning in interior design education in Korea. Literature from various sources were examined to provide guidelines for instructional and technical strategies, communication system, and administrative process. Strategies and assessment model for transition to distance learning from goal setting to program evaluation were introduced. The results of this study indicated that distance learning in interior design education is optimized when applied in studio critique, portfolio production, and professional practice and with other traditional programs depending on the characteristics of the instructional materials. It is suggested for further studies that various distance learning programs based on instructional theories to be conducted and evaluated in different areas of interior design education for their maximum application as instructional tool.
