Critical regionalism has been consistently influential in architecture since the 1980s. While acknowledging its contribution to the discipline of architecture, this article inquires into two co-related issues in critical regionalism as elaborated upon by Kenneth Frampton: critical subjectivity and identity. Regarding critical subjectivity, critical regionalism demands one to stand critical of both tradition and technological development. It assumes that one can locate herself in a neutral zone unshackled from both conditions so that she can make an unbiased judgment. This article criticizes this form of subjectivity by illuminating the situated nature of the subject in the continuity of tradition within which one always stands. The second issue is identity. Keeping the identity of a region through architecture is accepted as a rule in critical regionalism. However, how we shall understand the identity is unclear. This article introduces a notion of identity as rooted in the dialectics of opposites, and demonstrates it by referring to Le Corbusier's architecture and Tetsuro Watsuji's philosophy of climate. The objective of this series of inquiries is not to shake the validity of critical regionalism, but to renew and extend its significance for contemporary architecture.

The Maritime Commercial Part, which based on the CMI Conventions before 1950s, of the Korea Commercial Code has some critical issues to be improper to the morden internaitonal sea trade. Large quantity of bending deformation as well as rotating torque fluctuation at the balance shaft are main struggles during the operation in a high speed rotation and thereby, two issues should be cleared at the design process of balance shaft module. Since two issues are highly related with balance shaft itself and particularly much sensitive to the location of both supporting bearing and unbalance mass, the design strategy on balance shaft should be investigated at the aspect of controlling two critical issues at the early stage of balance shaft design. To tackle two main problems, the formulation of objective function that minimizes critical issues, both bending deformation as well as torque fluctuation, is suggested to derive the optimal information on balance shaft. Then, optimal informations are reviewed at the practical logics and the guideline at the selection of locations, both supporting bearing and unbalance mass, is addressed at the final chapter.

In recent years there has been much discussion about whether there is a critical, or sensitive period for language acquisition. Research on a critical period provides an excellent example around which we can organize a discussion of the behavioral and neural evidence. In this paper, the early history of critical periods and evidence for the existence of critical periods in various domains of human cognition and learning are reviewed. Followed by this overview, evidence for a critical period in both linguistic and non linguistic area are presented. The paper then provides some unresolved questions regarding a critical period in language acquisition and states what the outcome of this issues mean for an understanding of language acquisition. Finally the paper concludes with some educational implications of a critical period for practice.

The shortage of R&D personnel and the lower productivity of SMEs are critical issues in strengthening SMEs. Government provides various policies to deal with these issues. The aim of this paper is to analyze current status and policy issues of R&D personnel and to suggest policy alternatives to improve the availability of R&D personnel in SMEs.

A proactive approach on environmental issues may be one of critical competitive factors for global business in near future. Especially, distribution systems are very related to the various environmental issues, including development of green products and packaging, selection of the transportation vehicles and pallets, design of retail stores and distribution facilities, participation for solving the local environmental problems, and so on. In order to approach the environmental issues on distribution systems, for the first time managers need to understand the strategic framework for green management and then, to find the key success factors of leading companies in this field. Finally, future directions of strategic green management on distribution systems are discussed and shared.

The finite nature of human existence leads many to search for meaning, which comes into sharper relief for those who are imminently facing death. Therefore, universal existential concerns such as the inevitability of death, existential isolation, loss of meaning, freedom, and dignity are inherent psychological issues in palliative care. Consequently, one of the critical challenges facing palliative care is how to address these issues effectively. This paper provides an overview of common themes of existential concerns and psychotherapeutic interventions to address existential distress among patients in palliative care.

Taking the issues of inequity and power between NES and NNES teachers as a starting point, this qualitative study explores the way the widespread belief of the native speaker fallacy manifests itself in one NNES teacher's teaching life and is linked to the teacher's understanding of herself as an English teacher. Guided by critical applied linguistics (Pennycook, 2001) and using Bourdieu's (1991) theorization of symbolic violence, I conducted an instrumental case study (Stake, 1995) in an ESL writing class at a US university. I collected data through classroom observations and interviews over a nine-month period and analyzed the data using the constant comparison method (Glaser and Strauss, 1967). The findings illustrate the ways the dominant ideology of the native speaker fallacy works to maintain and reproduce the status quo unequal relation between NES and NNES teachers by making all parties involved believe in the artificial sociocultural arrangements that favor NES teachers as legitimate. The findings direct our attention to the importance of critical teacher education that will enable future TESOL professionals to engage in critical reflection on diverse issues and envision transformative change. The findings, in particular, point to the need for language support for NNES teachers in TESOL teacher education.

이 연구의 목적은 기술교사들이 인식하고 있는 기술교육의 쟁점과 그에 대한 실천전략을 연구하는 데 있었다. 이러한 연구 목적을 위하여, 우리나라 기술교사들이 인식하는 기술교육의 쟁점과 그에 대한 해결방안을 도출하기 위해 기술교사 전문가 집단을 대상으로 하나의 질적 연구가 이루어졌다. 기술교사 전문가 그룹을 선정하기 위하여 의도적 표집방법이 다음의 세 가지 조건을 가지고 사용되었다: 1) 대한민국 기술교사상 수상자이거나 2) 온라인 오프라인 상의 기술교사모임을 이끌고 있는 교사들이거나 3) 지역의 기술교사 모임 운영진들. 이 연구는 한국의 기술교사들이 인식하고 있는 쟁점과 실천 전략에 관하여 선택된 15명의 기술교사들과 탐색적인 집중 면담을 실시하였다. 이 인터뷰 내용에 대한 해석은 2명의 연구자들에 의해 주제 분석 방법을 통해 이루어졌으며 이는 선택된 자료에서 개념, 단어, 의미 등의 빈도수를 분석하였다. 결론적으로 이 연구에서 찾고 있는 기술교육의 쟁점은 1) 교육과정의 문제, 2) 교육 환경의 문제, 3) 교사 문제, 4) 학생 문제, 5) 관련 연구 기관 및 대학 문제, 6) 사회적 문제 등이 있었으며, 이에 대한 해결책으로는 1) 기술과 가정교육의 분리, 2) 교육환경 개선 사례 공유, 3) 교사모임과 교사운동 활성화, 4) 체험학습을 통한 흥미유발, 5) 교사 양성 기관의 질적/양적 향상, 6) 기술교육의 가치를 대중에게 홍보 등이 있었다. 또한 기술교육 관련 긍정적 요인으로는, 1) 시대적 요구에 부응하는 기술 교육, 2) 교사들의 교실수업 개선 의지 또는 열정 등이 있었으며, 부정적 요인으로는 1) 기술교사들의 낮은 자존감, 2) 시대의 변화에 대한 거부 또는 늦은 수용 등이 있었다. 이와 같은 결론을 토대로 다음 몇 가지 제언으로는 1) 도출된 기술교육의 문제에 대한 심층적인 연구와 2) 전문가들이 언급한 해결방안에 대한 구체적인 해결책에 대한 대표적인 사례들을 밝히는 연구의 실행 등이 있다.
