The influence of ultrasound frequency, dissolved gases, and initial concentration on the decomposition of sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate(DBS) aqueous solution was investigated using ultrasound generator with 200 W ultrasound power. The decomposition rates at three frequencies(50, 200, and 600 kHz) examined under argon atmosphere were highest at 200 kHz. The highest observed decomposition rate at 200 kHz occurred in the presence of oxygen followed by air and argon, helium, and nitrogen. The effect of initial concentration of DBS on the ultrasonic decomposition was decreased with increasing initial concentration and would depend upon the formation of micelle in aqueous solution. It appears that the ultrasound frequency, dissolved gases, and initial concentration play an important role on the sonolysis of DBS. Sonolysis of DBS mainly take place at the interfacial region of cavitation bubbles by both OH radical attack and pyrolysis to alkyl chain, aromatic ring, and headgroup.
Single crystals of TeO2 with large diameter were grown by Czochralski technique with auto-diameter control system. The ratio of crystal to crucible was 60-70%. The effect of critical pulling and rotation rate on the crystal quality was studied. Optimum growth parameters for high quality crystal pulling rate was less than 1.2 mm/hr. The solid-liquid interface was convex at the rotation rate of 10-23 rpm and concave at the rotation rate of more than 25 rpm, depending on the size of crystal and crucible. The platinum concentration in the melts is one of the main factors of the constitutional supercooling and thus the bubble entrapment in the growing crystal. Growth axis was confirmed to {110} direction during the whole growth procedure. Infrared spectrometric study and dislocation density measurment by chemical etching method on the grown crystal were performed. Finally, the reasons of cooperation of striations, inclusions, and optical inhomogeneities were discussed.
Vortex-induced vibration (VIV) is a significant concern when designing slender structures with square cross sections. VIV strongly depends on structural dynamics and flow states, which depend on the conditions of the approaching flow and shape of a structure. Therefore, the effects of the angle of attack on the coupling effects of VIV for a square cylinder are expected to be significant in practice. In this study, the aerodynamic forces for a fixed and elastically mounted square cylinder were measured using wind pressure tests. Aerodynamic forces on the stationary cylinder are firstly discussed by comparisons of variation of statistical aerodynamic force and wind pressure coefficient with wind angle of attack. The coupling effect between the aerodynamic forces and the motion of the oscillating square cylinder by VIV is subsequently investigated in detail at typical wind angels of attack with occurrence of three typical flow regimes, i.e., leading-edge separation, separation bubble (reattachment), and attached flow. The coupling effect are illustrated by discussing the onset of VIV, characteristics of aerodynamic forces during VIV, and interaction between motion and aerodynamic forces. The results demonstrate that flow states can be classified based on final separation points or the occurrence of reattachment. These states significantly influence coupling effects of the oscillating cylinder. Vibration enhances vortex shedding, which creates strong fluctuations in aerodynamic forces. However, differences in the lock-in range, aerodynamic force, and interaction process for angles of attack smaller and larger than the critical angle of attack revealed noteworthy characteristics in the VIV of a square cylinder.

PCS needs to freely switch AC and DC to connect the battery, external AC loads and renewable energy in both directions for energy efficiency. Whenever converting happens, power loss inevitably occurs. Minimization of the power loss to save electricity and convert it for usage is a very critical function in PCS. PCS plays an important role in the ESS(Energy Storage System) but the importance of stabilizing semiconductors on PCB(Printed Circuit Board) should be empathized with a risk of failure such as a fire explosion. In this study, the temperature variation inside PCS was reviewed by cooling fan on top of PCS, and the vibration characteristics of PCS were analyzed during truck transportation for reliability of the product. In most cases, a cooling fan is mounted to control the inner temperature at the upper part of the PCS and components generating the heat placed on the internal aluminum cooling plate to apply the primary cooling and the secondary cooling system with inlet fans for the external air. Results of CFD showed slightly lack of circulating capacity but simulated temperatures were durable for components. The resonance points of PCS were various due to the complexity of components. Although they were less than 40 Hz which mostly occurs breakage, it was analyzed that the vibration displacement in the resonance frequency band was very insufficient. As a result of random-vibration simulation, the lower part was analyzed as the stress-concentrated point but no breakage was shown. The steel sheet could be stable for now, but for long-term domestic transportation, structural coupling may occur due to accumulation of fatigue strength. After the test completed, output voltage of the product had lost so that extra packaging such as bubble wrap should be considered.

An experimental study is carried out to investigate the Reynolds number effects on the near-wake of an airfoil oscillating in pitch. An NACA 4412 airfoil is sinusoidally pitched about the quarter chord point between the angle of attack -6$^{\circ}$ and +6$^{\circ}$. A hot-wire anemometer is used to measure the turbulent intensity in the near-wake region of an NACA 4412 airfoil. The freestream velocities of present work are 3.4, 12.4, 26.2 m/s, and the corresponding Reynolds numbers are $5.3{\times}10^4,\;1.9{\times}10^5,\;4.1{\times}10^5$ and the reduced frequency is 0.1. Axial turbulent intensity profiles are presented to show the Reynolds number effects on the near-wake region behind an airfoil oscillating in pitch. All the cases in these measurements show that the turbulent intensities by the change of the Reynolds number are very large at the lowest Reynolds number $R_N=5.3{\times}10^4$; and are small at the other Reynolds number $(R_N=1.9{\times}10^5\;and\;4.1{\times}10^5)$ in the near-wake region. The significant difference of turbulent intensity between $R_N=5.3{\times}10^4,\;and\;1.9{\times}l0^5$ is observed. A critical value of the Reynolds number in the near-wake of an oscillating NACA 4412 airfoil which indicates laminar separation, no separation or turbulent separation exists in the range between $R_N=5.3{\times}10^4\;and\;1.9{\times}10^5$.
In this study, a cationic gemini surfactant was synthesized using isosorbide, in order to modify the alkyl chain length in the range of C10~C16. The c.m.c and surface tension of the synthesized cationic gemini surfactant were measured to be in the ranges of 5.13 × 10-4~1.62 × 10-4 mol/L and 31.86~37.41 dyne/cm, respectively. The surface tension increased with increasing the length of the alkyl group. In addition, as the area per molecule occupied by the surfactant adsorbed on the interface increased with the reduced extent of adsorption, the bubble generation at the air-water interface decreased. The emulsifying capacity in benzene was maintained above 60 ± 5% after 8 h while that in soybean oil tended to decrease above 50 ± 5%. The performance was superior in benzene, a highly hydrophobic substance, and the emulsion stability was shown to be consistent beyond 1 h during the preparation of pre-emulsion in oil and water. The antimicrobial activity was dependent on the length of the hydrophobic chain of the synthesized cationic gemini surfactant due to the increased size of the clean zone in Escherichia coli (E.coli) and Staphylococcus aureus.
Soil washing techniques coupled with high pressure air jet were applied for diesel-contaminated soils sampled by an underground oil reservoir of which the initial total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) ($2,828{\pm}206\;mg/kg$) exceeded 5 times of current standard level (500 mg/kg) regulated by the Soil-Environment Conservation Law. Through several tests, we found that the position of impeller has a critical impact for washing efficiencies. The highest washing efficiency was obtained at an oblique angle (30 degree) for the impeller and optimized mixing speed (300 rpm) that could have high shearing forces. Considered economical and feasible aspects, the optimum mixing time was 10 min. Rate constants of TPH removal derived from the first-order equation were not linearly increased as mixing speed increased, indicating that mechanical mixing has some limits to enhance the washing efficiencies. Application of high-pressure air jet in washing process increased the washing efficiency. This increase might be caused by the fact that the surface of micro-air bubbles strongly attached hydrophobic matters of soil particles. As the pressure of air jet increased, the separation efficiencies of TPH-contaminated soil particles increased. In the combined process of high-pressure air jet and mixing by impeller, the optimum mixing speed and air flow-rate were determined to be 60 rpm and $2\;kg/cm^2$, respectively. Consequently, the washing technique coupled with high-pressure air jet could be considered as a feasible application for remediating petroleum-contaminated soils.

An experimental. study is carried out to investigate the near-wake characteristics of an airfoil oscillating in pitch. An NACA 4412 airfoil is sinusoidally pitched about the quarter chord point between the angle of attack -6$^{\circ}$ and +6$^{\circ}$. A hot-wire anemometer is used to measure the phase-averaged mean velocities in the near-wake region of an oscillating airfoil. The freestream velocities of present work are 3.4, 12.4, 26.2 m/s, and the corresponding Reynolds numbers are 5.3${\times}10^4$, 1.9${\times}10^5$, 4.l${\times}10^5$, and the reduced frequency is 0.1. Streamwise velocity profiles are presented to show the Reynolds number effects on the near-wake region behind an airfoil oscillating in pitch. All the cases in these measurements show that the velocity defects by the change of the Reynolds number are very large at the lowest Reynolds number $R_N$=5.3${\times}10^4$: and are small at the other Reynolds numbers ($R_N$=1.9${\times}10^5$ and 4.l${\times}10^5$) in the near-wake region. A significant difference of phase-averaged mean velocity between 5.3${\times}10^4$, and 1.9${\times}10^5$ is observed. The present study shows that a critical value of Reynolds number in the near-wake of an oscillating airfoil exists in the range between 5.3${\times}10^4$, and 1.9${\times}10^5$.
The critical micelle concentration (CMC) of sorbitan laurate SP 20 surfactant in this paper was near $7.216{\times}10^{-4}mol/L$ and the surface tension at CMC was about 26.0 mN/m, which showed higher CMC and lower surface tension than those of octylphenol ethoxylate octylphenol ethoxylate (OPE) 10 surfactant. Dynamic surface tension measurement using a maximum bubble pressure tensiometer showed that the adsorption rate at the interface between air and surfactant solution was found to be slower with SP 20 surfactant, presumably due to a low mobility of SP 20 surfactant monomer. The contact angle of SP 20 surfactant solution was observed to decrease with an increase in surfactant concentration and showed a larger value than that of OPE 10 surfactant solution. Half-life time for foams generated with 1 wt% surfactant solution was also larger with SP 20 surfactant, which indicated higher foam stability with SP 20 surfactant. Dynamic behavior study reveals that the solubilization of n-decane oil was much lower with SP 20, which is in good agreement with experimental results of foam stability, contact angle and CMC. Dynamic interfacial tension measurement by a spinning drop tensiometer shows that interfacial tensions at equilibrium condition in both systems were almost the same but the time required to reach equilibrium was longer with SP 20.
The CMCs of LA and LA3 nonionic surfactants obtained from the reaction between glycidol and lauryl alcohol were found to be $0.97{\times}10^{-3}mol/L$ and $1.02{\times}10^{-3}mol/L$ respectively and the surface tensions for 1 wt% surfactant were 26.99 and 27.48 mN/m respectively. Dynamic surface tension measurements using a maximum bubble pressure tensiometer showed that the adsorption rate of surfactant molecules at the interface between the air and the surfactant solution was found to be relatively fast in both surfactant systems, presumably due to the high mobility of surfactant molecules. The contact angles of LA and LA3 nonionic surfactants were 27.8 and $20.9^{\circ}$ respectively and the dynamic interfacial tension measurement by a spinning drop tensiometer showed that interfacial tensions at equilibrium condition in both systems were almost the same. Also both surfactant systems reached equilibrium in 2~3 min. Both surfactant solutions showed high stability when evaluated by conductometric method and the LA nonionic surfactant system provided the higher foam stability than the LA3 nonionic surfactant system. The phase behavior experiments showed a lower phase or oil in water (O/W) microemulsion in equilibrium with an excess oil phase at all temperatures studied. No three-phase region was observed including a middle-phase microemulsion or a lamellar liquid crystalline phase.
