This study is to evaluate the fatigue crack growth characteristics for base metals and welded metal of 9% Ni steels. Since this material has very excellent fracture toughness at low temperature, it has been widely used for inner walls of LNG storage tank. These materials to compare fatigue crack growth (FCG) behaviour are treated with heat by the method of quenching and tempering (QT), and quenching, lamellarizing and tempering (QLT). FCG tests using compact temsion (CT) specimen under stress ratio R=0.1, 0.5, and constant load are carried out. K-increasing tests are conducted by the standard test method described in ASTM E 647. To investigate the effect of welded metal on the crack growth rate, the locations of notch tip were chosen at the center of welded metal and heat affected zone (HAZ). Form the results, FCG rate has almost same tendency according to stress ratio, base and welded metal, the locations of welded metal. FCG rate of welded metal is somewhat faster than base metal. Also scanning electron microscope (SEM) is used to observe the striation of the fractured surface after fatigue crack tests.
The components with the circular cross section have the symmetric combination parts for rotating balance and the crack emanates from the symmetric combination parts. The symmetric cracks from symmetric combination parts make a decrease in the component fatigue life more than single crack. In this study, to estimate the behavior of symmetric cracks, the fatigue test was performed using rotary bending tester on the specimen with a symmetric defects in circular cross section. The material used in this study is Ni-Cr-Mo steel alloy. Under the same stress, the result from the rotary bending fatigue test turned out that the symmetric cracks made a decrease in the fatigue life by 35% more than single crack and the relation between log a and cycle ratio $N/N_f$ obtained linearly.

In this research, the relationships between static bimaterial constant and dynamic oscillation index are studied. It was certified that static bimaterial constant has the same form equation as the dynamic oscillation index. Bimaterial constant and oscillation index are increased with the increment of Young's modulus ratio and approached to the some value. Isochromatic fringe patterns are slanted to the left side with increment of bimaterial constants and oscillation index. Though patterns of stress components in above the crack surface are similar to each other, their magnitudes are different a little. In the ahead of crack tip, there are big differences in the isochromatic fringe patterns and their magnitudes. The influence of bimaterial with Young's modulus ratio is bigger in the propagation crack than in the stationary crack.
In this paper, the effect of functionally graded material (FGM) coatings on the fracture behavior of semi-elliptical cracks in cylinders is assessed. The objective is to calculate the stress intensity factor (SIF) of a longitudinal semi-elliptical crack on the wall of an aluminum cylinder with FGM coating. A three-dimensional finite element method (FEM) is used for constructing the mechanical models and analyzing the SIFs of cracks. The effect of many geometrical parameters such as relative depth, crack aspect ratio, FG coating thickness to liner thickness as well as the mechanical properties of the FG coating on the SIF of the cracks is discussed. For a special case, the validity of the FE model is examined. The results indicated that there is a particular crack aspect ratio in which the maximum value of SIFs changes from the deepest point to the surface point of the crack. Moreover, it was found that the SIFs decrease by increasing the thickness ratio of the cylinder. But, the cylinder length has no effect on the crack SIFs.

Steel fiber and Polymer are used widely for the reinforcement material of RC structures because of its excellence of durability, serviceability as well as mechanical properties. Polymer-Steel fibrous high strength concrete beam's input ratio are 1.0%. The shear span-to-depth ratio are 1.5, 2.8 and 3.6, compressive strength of specimens 320kg/㎠, 436kgf/㎠ and 520kgf/㎠ in 28 days. The static test was carried out to measure the ultimate load, the initial load of flexural crack and of diagonal crack, from which crack patte군 and fracture modes are earned. Also, stress-strain, load-strain and load-deflection are examined during the test cracks(shear crack, flexural crack, and diagonal tension crack), when the load values are sketched according to the growth of crack. Result are as follows; (1) The failure modes of the specimens increase in rigidity and durability in accordance with the increase of mixing steel fiber and polymer. (2) The load of initial crack was the same as the theory of shear-crack strength (3) Polymer-Steel fibrous high strength concrete beams have increased the deflection and strain at failure load, improving the brittleness of the high strength concrete. (4) In this result of study, an additional study need to make a need formular because the study is different from ACI formular and Zsutty formular.

Cracks present in pressure vessels have been reported to be mostly semi-elliptic surface cracks. The fatigue crack growth rates(FCGR) of surface cracks in the pressure vessel materials, API5A-K55 and SPV 500, used in this study were showed to be different depending on the direction of propagation of the surface crack. An equation for the prediction of the shape change of the surface crack was obtained by combining the Paris' relations for each direction of surface crack extension and agreed well with the experimental data. And also FGGR in both materials were evaluated and prediction of the shape change of surface crack were made using averaged stress intensity factor.
The fatigue crack growth behavior of the cold-rolled STS 304 steel developed for membrane material of LNG storage tank was examined experimentally at 293K, 153K and 111K. The fatigue crack growth rate(do/dN) tends to increase as the stress ratio (R) increases over the testing temperature when compared at the same stress intensity factor range($\Delta$K). The effect of R on do/dN is more explicit at low temperatures than at room temperature. The resistance of fatigue crack growth at low temperatures is higher compared with that at room temperature which is attributed to the extent of strain-induced martensitic transformation at the crack tip. The temperature dependence of fatigue crack growth resistance is gradually vanished with an increase in $\Delta$K which correlates with a decreasing fracture toughness with decreasing temperature. Fractographic examinations reveal that the differences of the fatigue crack growth characteristics between room and low temperature are mainly explained by the crack closure and the strengthening due to the martensitic transformation.
Effects of strain hardening exponents on the retardation behavior of fatigue crack propagation are experimentally investigated. The retardation of fatigue crack propagation seems to be induced by the crack closure at crack tip. The phenomenon of crack closure becomes remarkable with the increment of strain hardening exponent and magnitude of percent peak load. The ratio of crack growth increment(a$\_$d//w$\_$d/) is influenced by a single overloading (a$\_$d/) and estimated plastic zone size (W$\_$d/=2r$\_$y/) is increased according with the increasing of strain ha.dening exponents. The number of retarded crack growth cycles were (N$\_$d/) decreased as the baseline stress intensity factor .ange( K$\_$b/) was increased. Within the limitation of these experimental results obtained under the single overload, an empirical relation between crack retardation ratio (Nd/N*), strain hardening exponent (n) and percent peak load (%PL) has been proposed as; Nd/N*= exp [PL $.$ PL$.$A(n)+B(n) ] where, A(n)=${\alpha}$n+${\beta}$, B(n)=${\gamma}$n+$\delta$, PL=%PL/100 and ${\alpha}$=0.78, ${\beta}$=0.54, ${\gamma}$=0.58 and $\delta$=-0.01, It is interesting to note that all these constants are identical for materials such as aluminum(A3203), steel(S4SC), steel(SS41) and stainless steel(SUS316) used in this experimental study.
The possibility of detecting a crack in L-shaped pipes filled with fluid based on measurement of transverse natural frequencies is examined. The problem is solved by representing the crack by a massless rotational spring, simulating the out-of-plane transverse vibration only without solving the coupled torsional vibration and using the transfer matrix method for solution of the governing equation. The theoretical solutions are verified by experiments. The cracks considered are external, circumferentially oriented and have straight front. Pipes made of aluminium and mild steel are tested with water as internal fluid. Crack size to pipe thickness ratio ranging from 0.20 to 0.57 and fluid (gauge) pressure in the range of 0 to 10 atmospheres are examined. The rotational spring stiffness is obtained by an inverse vibration analysis and deflection method. The details of the two methods are given. The results by the two methods are presented graphically and show good agreement. Crack locations are also determined by the inverse analysis. The maximum absolute error in the location is 13.80%. Experimentally determined variation of rotational spring stiffness with ratio of crack size to thickness is utilized to predict the crack sizes. The maximum absolute errors in prediction of crack size are 17.24% and 16.90% for aluminium and mild steel pipes respectively.
In this paper, the crack properties of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFHC) beams by experimental method are discussed. The major role played by the steel fiber occurs in the post-cracking zone, in which the fibers bridge across the cracked matrix. Because of its improved ability to break crack, SFRC has better crack properties than that of reinforced concrete (RC). Crack properties are influenced by longitudinal reinforcement ratio, volume and type of steel fiber, strength of concrete and the stress level. Crack width and crack number in the SFRC beams havebeen evaluated from experimental test data at various levels in the beams.
