  • For mobile wireless systems with full frequency reuse, co-channel interference near the cell coverage boundaries has a significant impact on the signal reception performance. This paper addresses an approach to efficiently mitigate the effect of downlink co-channel interference when multi-antenna terminals are used in cellular environments, by proposing a signal detection strategy combined with a system-level coordination for dynamic frequency reuse. We demonstrate the utilization of multi-antennas to perform spatial demultiplexing of both the desired signal and interfering signals from adjacent cells results in significant improvement of spectral efficiency compared to the maximal ratio combining (MRC) performance, especially when an appropriate frequency reuse based on the traffic loading condition is coordinated among cells. Both analytic expressions for the capacity and experimental results using the adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) are used to confirm the performance gain. The robustness of the proposed scheme against varying operational conditions such as the channel estimation error and shadowing effects are also verified by simulation results.

  • The test transimissionof DGPS correction data has been carried out since early 1996. The data has been sent from marine radiobeacon station at Changgi Gap Ligthouse. It was the first test brosdcast of DGPS correction data based on midium frequency of marine radiobeacon where transmission power and rate are 300W and 100bps respectively. However, there has not been any scientific study on the characteristic of the accuracy of a marine DGPS/radiobeacon. Accordingly. this paper investigates the accuracy of the system, which is currently operating in 310KHz. As a result , planned 8 reference station and coverage verified that the differential positioning accuray using themarine radiobeacon is sufficient to ensure the safetyof marine activities around the coast of Korea(position error of distance 107NM at reference station was about10m(drms)).

  • We propose a semi-parametric model to analyze clustered and interval-censored data; in addition, we plugged-in a gamma frailty to the model to measure the association of members within the same cluster. We propose an estimation procedure based on EM algorithm. Simulation results showed that our estimation procedure may result in unbiased estimates. The standard error is smaller than expected and provides conservative results to estimate the coverage rate; however, this trend gradually disappeared as the number of members in the same cluster increased. In addition, our proposed method was illustrated with data taken from diabetic retinopathy studies to evaluate the effectiveness of laser photocoagulation in delaying or preventing the onset of blindness in individuals with diabetic retinopathy.

  • Case studies are made to investigate the relationship between the accuracy of energy production estimation and project feasibility indicators such as rate of return on equity (ROE) and debt service coverage ratio (DSCR) for three wind farm projects. It is found out that 1% improvement in the accuracy of energy production estimation may enhance the ROE by more than 0.5% in the case of P95, thanks to improved financing terms. AHP survey shows that MCP correlation of measured in situ wind data with long term wind speed distribution and hands-on experiences of flow analysis are more important than other factors for more precise annual energy production estimation.

  • One of the fundamental problems in sensor networks is the deployment of sensor nodes. The Fuzzy C-Means(FCM) clustering algorithm is proposed to determine the optimum location and minimum number of sensor nodes for the specific application space. We performed a simulation using two dimensional L shape model. The actual length of the L shape model is about 100m each. We found the minimum number of 15 nodes are sufficient for the complete coverage of modeled area. We also found the optimum location of each nodes. The real deploy experiment using 15 sensor nodes shows the 95.7%. error free communication rate.

  • This paper introduces the optimal disposition of direction finder using EM(Electro-magnetic) wave propagation analysis which is based on LR(Longley-Rice) propagation model and the characteristics of direction finder, emitter and terrain. Initial model is simulated and modified to minimize propagation error as a result of the field trials. Proposed analysis used line-of-sight analysis and mountain-top extraction algorithm to optimize the disposition in the assigned area and the result can be displayed in the 3D map in order of the percentage coverage for direction finding possibility area.

  • A Satellite -aided search and rescue system is expected for its many advantage of global coverage, instantaneousness and low cost. In this paper, a calculation method is proposed , by which a position of distress can be determined with doppler frequency received through an orbital satellite. First, an algorithm and program is developed for calculating the position of distress with the received doppler frequency of EPIRB(Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon) with the least square method. Then, position error caused by the drift of the transmitting frequency is evaluated. The evaluation is made by the simulation using NNSS satellite orbital elements and varying position of EPIRB, numbers of Doppler data and magnitudes of various errors. As the result, the availability of this program for a satellite-aided search and rescue system is confirmed and the bounds of expected positioning accuracy is clarified.

  • Silent Data Corruptions (SDCs) is a serious reliability issue in many domains of computer system. The identification and protection of the program instructions that cause SDCs is one of the research hotspots in computer reliability field at present. A lot of solutions have already been proposed to solve this problem. However, many of them are hard to be applied widely due to time-consuming and expensive costs. This paper proposes an intelligent approach named SDCPredictor to identify the instructions that cause SDCs. SDCPredictor identifies SDC-causing Instructions depending on analyzing the static and dynamic features of instructions rather than fault injections. The experimental results demonstrate that SDCPredictor is highly accurate in predicting the SDCs proneness. It can achieve higher fault coverage than previous similar techniques in a moderate time cost.

  • In this paper, a wide-range microphone system for lectures using dual 3D sensors is proposed. A previous work using a single sensor had lowering the detecting threshold to support wide-area. However it was found that an error occurred when lecturer wears clothes with low reflectivity or has small body size. When multiple sensors are used to expand the coverage it could be cause various problems. Each sensor could show different distance to the same target. We derive the rotation angle and and compensate for lecturing microphone system using sensors on the line. The proposed method shows a little improvement in performance by about 1dB compared to the previous works but the performance is uniform in all areas regardless of reflectivity.

  • Low-power long-range networks (LoRa) has a comprehensive coverage of up to 30 km, so that long-range positioning is possible. However, the position error in the current LoRa environment is over 500 m. This makes it difficult to use practical location services in the LoRa environment. In this paper, we propose a method to improve the position accuracy by correcting an inaccurate visual error when sending a signal from a mobile node to a gateway through the reference node of each zone in the LoRa environment. Experiments were carried out using MATLAB, and a radio propagation algorithm, the Hata model, was used to cancel out the stationary noise and to evaluate the environmental noise. Experimental results showed that the error range decreased as the number of reference nodes increased and a mobile node approach the reference node.
