A multifield variational formulation is developed for the finite element (FE) cross-sectional analysis of composite beams. The cross-sectional warping displacements and sectional stresses are considered to be the primary variables through the application of Reissner's partially mixed principle. The warping displacements are modeled using generic FE shape functions with nonlinear distribution over the beam section. A generalized Timoshenko level stiffness matrix is derived which incorporates the effects of elastic couplings, transverse shear, and Poisson's deformations. The accuracy of the present analysis is validated for the stiffness constants and elastostatic responses of composite box beams which correlate well with the experimental data and other state-of-the-art approaches.

A dynamic model of reducer for generating facility of electric pourer having bevel gear pair and planetary gear train is developed by lumped method. The model accounts for the shaft and bearing flexibilities, gyroscopic effects and the force couplings among the transverse and torsion motions due to gearing. Vibration/noise analysis as well as strength of bevel gear pair and planetary gear train are considered. Exciting forces of high reducer for generating facility of electric power areconsidered as the mass unbalance of the rotors, misalignment and a function of gear transmission error. A Campbell diagram, in which the excitation sources caused by the mass unbalance of the rotors, misalignment and the transmitted errors of the gearing are considered, shows that, at the operating speed, there are not critical speed.

The equations of motion for composite plates incorporating magneto-thermo-elastic effects have been derived via Hamilton's principle. In order to get the insight into the implications of a number of geometrical and physical features of the system, the vibrational responses of finite composite rectangular plates immersed in a transversal magnetic field are investigated by applying the extended Galerkin method. The vibration response characteristics of a composite plate are exploited in connection with the magnetic field intensity, thermal load, and electric conductivity of fibrous composite materials. Some pertinent conclusions, which highlight the various effects induced by the magneto-thermo-elastic couplings, are outlined.

Active vibration control of smart hull structure using Macro Fiber Composite (MFC) actuator is performed. Finite element modeling is used to obtain governing equations of motion and boundary effects of end-capped smart hull structure. Equivalent interdigitated electrode model is developed to obtain piezoelectric couplings of MFC actuator. Modal analysis is conducted to investigate the dynamic characteristics of the hull structure, and compared to the results of experimental investigation. MFC actuators are attached where the maximum control performance can be obtained. Active controller based on Linear Quadratic Gaussian (LQG) theory is designed to suppress vibration of smart hull structure. It is observed that closed loop damping can be improved with suitable weighting factors in the developed LQG controller and structural vibration is controlled effectively.

This paper presents a study on the analytical prediction of vibration transmission from helical gears to the bearing. The proposed method is based on the application of the three dimensional helical gear behaviors and complete description of shaft by the spectral method. Helical gear system used in this paper consists of the driving element, helical gears, shafts, bearings, couplings and load element. In order to describe all translation and rotation motion of helical gears twelve degree of freedom equations of motion by the transmission error excitation are derived. Using these equations, transfer matrix for the helical gear is derived. For the detail behavior of shaft motion, the $12{\times}12$ transfer matrix for the shaft is derived. Transfer matrix for the bearing, coupling, driving element, and load is also derived. Application of the boundary conditions in the assembled transfer matrix produces the forces and displacements in each element of the helical gear system. The effect of the proposed method is shown by numerical example.
Carbon Nanotube (CNT) have been intensively investigated since they have been considered as building blocks of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Theoretical and computational studies on CNTs have revealed their physical and chemical properties and helped researchers build various experimental devices to study them in depth. However, there have been only few systematic studies on detailed changes in electronic structures of CNTs due to geometrical structure modifications. In this regard, it is necessary to perform systematic investigations of the modifications in electronic structures of CNTs, as their geometrical configurations are altered, using the first-principles density functional theory. In other words, it is essential to determine the true equilibrium structure of CNTs. In this work, we considered the different atomic configurations by maintaining their symmetries, but changing all the inequivalent bonding types one by one. Furthermore, as for CNTs, for example, the way the graphene sheet is wrapped is represented by a pair of indices (n,m) and electronic structures of CNTs vary depending on different indices. Our results suggest all the significant couplings between electronic and geometric structures in CNTs.

In this work, a closed-form analysis is performed for the structural response of coupled composite blades with multi-cell sections. The analytical model includes the effects of shell wall thickness, transverse shear, torsion warping and constrained warping. The mixed beam approach based on Reissner's semi-complementary energy functional is used to derive the beam force-displacement relations. The theory is validated against experimental test data and other analytical results for coupled composite beams and blades with single-cell box-sections and two-cell airfoils. Correlation of the present method with experimental results and detailed finite element results is found to be very good.

In this study, the electromagnetic coupling through a narrow transverse slit in the upper wall of a parallel-plate waveguide(PPW) covered by a dielectric slab with a nearby conducting strip on the slab is considered. Two contrastive coupling phenomena, cavity-type and parasitic-type, observed in the geometry have been distinguished by differences in the resonant strip lengths and offset positions, induced strip current, radiation pattern, frequency bandwidth, and electromagnetic field distributions near the coupling slit.
The polarization mode dispersion (PMD) that restricts the transmission bandwidth was investigated in standard long single mode fiber which optimized at 1.3${\mu}m$. Although fiber has perfect circular symmetry, each optical fiber has different refractive index profiles. The investigation of PMD with random mode couplings were conducted in three kinds of fiber by the time-domain interferometric method. By using two manufacturing methods, MCVD(Modified Chemical Vapor Deposition) method and VAD(Vapor Phase Axial Deposition) method, the property of mechanical asymmetric lateral pressure, bending and twisting induced polarization mode dispersion were measured. The concatenated optical fibers were compared with other types.
The magnetization properties have been measured for amorphous $Fe_{82}Mn_{8-x}B_xZr_{10}$ (x = 0-8) alloys. The temperature dependence of magnetization for these alloys shows the existence of antiferromagnetic couplings between Fe atoms in low fields at low temperatures. The magnetic parameters, obtained from the magnetization behavior are consistent with the presence of mixed magnetic state. The Curie temperature and magnetic moment increased with an increase of the concentration of B and spin glass like transition observed at low temperature decreases and finally vanishes at x = 8 at %. Our result suggests that the substitution of B for Mn seems to cause an increase of magnetic order.
