  • Finite element simulation is a widely applied method for practical purpose in various metal forming process. However, in the simulation of elasto-plastic behavior of porous material or in crystal plasticity coupled multi-scale simulation, it requires much calculation time, which is a limitation in its application in practical situations. A machine learning model that directly outputs the constitutive equation without iterative calculations would greatly reduce the calculation time of the simulation. In this study, we examined the possibility of artificial intelligence based constitutive equation with the input of existing state variables and current velocity filed. To introduce the methodology, we described the process of obtaining the training data, machine learning process and the coupling of machine learning model with commercial software DEFROMTM, as a preliminary study, via rigid plastic finite element simulation.

  • In this paper, we consider the Gudnason model of 𝒩 = 2 supersymmetric field theory, where the gauge field dynamics is governed by two Chern-Simons terms. Recently, it was shown by Han et al. that for a prescribed configuration of vortex points, there exist at least two distinct solutions for the Gudnason model in a flat two-torus, where a sufficient condition was obtained for the existence. Furthermore, one of these solutions has the asymptotic behavior of topological type. In this paper, we prove that such doubly periodic topological solutions are uniquely determined by the location of their vortex points in a weak-coupling regime.

  • Thermospheric wind observations from high to mid latitudes are compared with the newly developed Multiscale Atmosphere Geospace Environment (MAGE) model for the Nov 3-4 geomagnetic storm. The observation and simulation comparison shows a very good agreement and is better at high latitudes in general. We were able to identify a thermospheric poleward wind reduction possibly linked to a northward turning of the Interplanetary Magnetic Field (IMF) at ~22 UT on Nov 3 and an enhancement of the poleward wind to a southward turning near 10 UT on Nov 4 at high latitudes. An IMF southward turning may have led to an enhancement of equatorward winds at Boulder, Colorado near midnight. Simultaneous occurrence of aurora may be associated with an IMF By turning negative. The MAGE model wind simulations are consistent with observations in these cases. The results show the model can be a very useful tool to further study the magnetosphere and ionosphere coupling on short time scales.

  • This paper describes a 3-DOF attitude control of a small model helicopter in hover through explicit decoupling and adaptive control scheme. A model helicopter mounted on gimbal-stand is considered as a system that has 3 independent SISO systems representing motions about roll, pitch and yaw axis and these subsystems are identified from the test flight data. In this consideration, the contribution of others to yaw channel is neglected since it is relatively small. Two PID controllers based on Ziegler-Nichols method are designed for roll pitch channels independently. Also, adaptive fuzzy tuner is designed and applied to those PID controllers to cope with coupling effects between each channel and system uncertainties due to variation of engine RPM. The experimental results show that the attitude control ...

  • Holographic model of massive scalar field with its self-interaction λϕn in AdS space is able to give a logarithmic scale dependence to marginal multi-trace deformation couplings on its dual conformal field theory, where λ is the self-interaction coupling of the scalar field, ϕ, and n is an integral number. In arXiv:1501.06664, the authors realize this feature by looking at bulk scalar solutions near AdS boundary imposing a specific boundary condition between the coefficients of non-normalizable and normalizable modes of the scalar field excitations. We study the same holographic model to see scale dependence of marginal deformations on the dual conformal field theory by employing completely different method: holographic Wilsonian renormalization group. We solve Hamilton-Jacobi equation derived from the holographic model of massive scalar with λϕn interaction and obtain the solution of marginal multi-trace deformations up to the leading order in λ. It turns out that the solution of marginal multi-trace deformation also presents logarithmic behavior in energy scale near UV region.

  • This paper described the dynamic characteristics of 20-story apartment buildings from the results of full-scale measurements and analysis. The natural frequencies and mode shapes are quantified by measuring and analyzing ambient vibrations of the structure and compared with the results from dynamic analysis. Comparison with computed mode shapes and frequencies shows good agreement with the experimental results. It proved that it is important to estimate coupling beam and soil parameters through a comparison of the measured results with calculated results.

  • The facilitated diffusion effect on protein-DNA binding is studied. A rigorous theoretical approach is presented to deal with the coupling between one-dimensional and three-dimensional diffusive motions. For a simplified model, the present approach can provide numerically exact results, which are confirmed by the lattice-based Monte Carlo simulations.

  • This paper proposes GaN film as a piezoelectric material for SAW(surface acoustic wave) filters. The fabricated GaN SAW filter exhibited a very high velocity of 5800 ㎧and relatively low insertion loss of -9.9 dB without matching circuit. From Smith's equivalent circuit model, the calculated electromechanical coupling factor (K$^2$) was about 4.$\pm$03%. which is larger than those obtained from other thin film piezoelectric materials and allows the realization of wider filter fractional bandwidths.

  • A model was developed to describe the microbial decontamination of diesel contaminated soil in a soil column. The biodegradation rate of diesel in nature depends on temperature and the pH of soil, availability of nutrients, oxygen and water. The soil moisture content is one of the essential factors because it characterizes the availability not only of water to microorganisms but also of oxygen and nutrient dissolved in soil. In this work, the rate of biodegradation was modeled by coupling Michaelis-Menten kinetics for the aqueous-phase solute with adsoption-desoption equation for diesel sorption and desorption from soil.

  • This paper describes a dynamic var compensator to compensate the line reactance for power transmission and distribution system. The compensator consists of a voltage source inverter with dc capacitor, coupling transformers, and control circuit. The operation of compensator was verified by computer simulations with EMPT and experimental works with a scaled hardware model. The advantage of the proposed system is rapid and continuous regulation of the reactive power.
