  • A new model of generalized thermoelasticity equations for isotropic media with temperature-dependent mechanical properties is established. The modulus of elasticity is taken as a linear function of reference temperature. The present model is described both generalizations, Lord Shulman (L-S) theory with one relaxation time and Green-Lindsay (G-L) with two relaxation times, as well as the coupled theory, instantaneously. The method of the matrix exponential, which constitutes the basis of the state space approach of modern control theory, applied to two-dimensional equations. Laplace and Fourier integral transforms are used. The resulting formulation is applied to a problem of a thick plate subject to heating on parts of the upper and lower surfaces of the plate that varies exponentially with time. Numerical results are given and illustrated graphically for the problem considered. A comparison was made with the results obtained in case of temperature-independent modulus of elasticity in each theory.

  • This paper is dedicated to the thermoelastic modeling and dynamic response of the rotating blades made of functionally graded ceramic-metal based materials. The blades are modeled as non-uniform thin walled beams fixed at the hub with various selected values of setting angles and pre-twisted angles. In this study, the blade is rotating with a constant angular velocity and exposed to a steady temperature field as well as external excitation. Moreover, the effect of the temperature gradient through the blade thickness is considered. Material properties are graded in the thickness direction of the blade according to the volume fraction power law distribution. The numerical results highlight the effects of the volume fraction, temperature gradient, taper ratio, setting angle and pre-twisted angle on the dynamic response of bending-bending coupled beam characteristics and pertinent conclusions are outlined.

  • A warpage analysis program has been developed for fiber-reinforced injection molded parts. The warpage is Predicted from the residual stress and anisotropic thermo-mechanical properties coupled with fiber orientation in the integrated injection molding simulation. A simple elastic model is used for the calculation of thermally and pressure-induced residual stresses which are employed as the initial conditions in the structural analysis. To improve the reliability of warpage analysis, a new triangular flat shell element superimposing well-known efficient plate bending and membrane element is presented. The numerical examples address the neccesity to use anisotropic models for fiber-reinforced materials and show that predicted warpage is in good agreement with experimentally measured one.

  • In recent years, there has been a remarkable progress in the development of the fiber optic sensors for the detection of various chemicals. Fiber optic sensors have the advantages of very small size, flexibility and low cost. The fiber optic sensors employing different optical or spectroscopic phenomena have been reported such as bulk absorption, optical reflectance, fluoresces and energy transfer. In this study, the effect of nanoparticle concentration in liquid upon light absorption and scattering was studied using extrinsic fiber optic method. For the evaluation, we used Red (650 nm) and Blue (430 nm) light sources which are coupled through the standard cuvette using optical fiber to detector. The experiments are carried out with Polystyrene latex (400 - 800 nm), and Silicon (35 - 110 nm) nanoparticles suspended in Isopropanol. Differences in light absorption and scattering depending on nanoparticle concentration and type are discussed. This method may be useful to study nanoparticles properties for various application and research.

  • The effects of radiative heat transfer are investigated in a turbulent combustion flow field with highly non-adiabatic flames. Turbulent combustion is modeled by the $k-{\varepsilon}-g$ model and a one step irreversible reaction scheme for the combustion chemistry. The radiative trasport equation is solved by the finite volume method considering the radiative transfer from $CO_2,\;H_{2}O$ and soot only. Gray gas is assumed to calculate the radiative properties of $CO_2\;and\;H_2O$. A two-equation soot formation model is applied to predict soot volume faction distribution. All equations are solved in a coupled manner and the numerical results are compared with available experimental data.

  • Characteristics of Argon metastable density with electron density have been studied by using Laser induced fluorescence (LIF) in ICP. Two different evolutions of measured metastable densities with electron density depending on a measurement position are addressed. The experimental result is explained by using a zero dimensional global model and is due to electron kinetic properties in the positions that can be seen from electron energy probability functions measured by Langmuir probe. The underlying physics on metastable density with electron density and an experimental method of LIF are presented in detail.

  • Ultra-thin polymer films containing cobalt(II) meso-tetraphenylporphyrin(CoTPP) have been prepared by vacuum codeposition of the metal complex and trans-2-butene as an organic monomer using an inductively coupled RF glow discharge operating at 7-9 Watts. The polymer films were characterized by sorption measurements. Sorption data obtained for polymer films containing CoTPP indicate that the CoTPP molecules are capable of reversibly binding oxygen molecules. It was found that the adjacent CoTPP molecules in the aggregated metal complex phase could irreversibly share the oxygen molecules. A dispersion of the metal complex molecules in the polymer matrix was made to maintain the reversible reactivity of the metal complex molecules with oxygen in the polymer films via vacuum evaporation process. The Henry mode solubility constant, the Langmuir mode capacity constant, the amount of binding oxygen, and the dissociation equilibrium in the dual mode sorption theory were discussed.

  • Since the manufacturing process in the LTCC process does not allow solid ground planes between ceramic layers to isolate the signal lines, the buried ground should be realized as a meshed ground plane. Both characteristic impedances of the signal lines and couplings between different signal layers are influenced by the properties of these meshed planes. In this paper, we propose a new analysis method for coupling behavior between internal transmission lines, which are isolated by the buried meshed-ground planes. The coupling behavior between layers isolated by meshed-ground planes is investigated by the coupled-transmission line model for the isolated layers. The coupling factors between isolated lines with the meshed-ground are extracted by 2-D FEM calculations.

  • Plasma polymerization of thiophene was carried out in a vacuum reactor with capacitively coupled electrode. This paper describes the dependence of molecular structure and electrical properties on the polymerization conditions such as plasma energy, mass flow rate and pressure. The plasma polymerized thiophene films were chracterized by FT-IR spectroscopy and SEM. The IR analysis revealed the thiophene rings are broken by the discharge energy.
