  • Aerodynamic sensitivity analysis is performed for the Navier-Stokes equations coupled with two-equation turbulence models using a discrete adjoint method and a direct differentiation method respectively. Like the mean flow equations, the turbulence model equations are also hand-differentiated to accurately calculate the sensitivity derivatives of flow quantities with respect to design variables in turbulent viscous flows. Both the direct differentiation code and the adjoint variable code adopt the same time integration scheme with the flow solver to efficiently solve the differentiated equations. The sensitivity codes are then compared with the flow solver in terms of solution accuracy, computing time and computer memory requirements. The sensitivity derivatives obtained from the sensitivity codes with different turbulence models are compared with each other. Using two-equation turbulence models, it is observed that a usual assumption of constant turbulent eddy viscosity in adjoint methods may lead to seriously inaccurate results in highly turbulent flows.

  • Many enzymes require the participation of readily dissociable coenzymes as NAD for thir catalytic activities. The continuous utilization of the enzymes requires the retention and regeneration of the coenzymes. For this purpose, several kinds of macromolecular NAD derivatives have been prepared by covalently attaching NAD to watersoluble polymers. We have prepared poly (ethylene glycol)-bound NAD (PEG-NAD) by coupling N$\^$6/-(2-carboxyethyl)-NAD to one terminal of ${\gamma}$ $\omega$-diaminoly (ethylene glycol) (Mr 3000) with water-soluble carbodiimide. PED-NAD thus obtained has one NAD moiety located at a terminal of the linear, flexible and hydrophilic chain of poly (ethylene glycol). PED-NAD has good coenzyme activity for various dehydrogenases and is applicable in a continuous enzyme reactor. To use these macromolecular NAD derivatives in an enzyme reactor, it si necessary to understand the behavior of the system in which the reactions of dehydrogenases are coupled by the recycling of the NAD derivative. We investigated the kinetic properties of a continuous enzyme reactor containing lactate dehydrogenase, alcohol dehydrogenase and PEG-NAD. The steady-state behavior of the enzyme reactor is explained by a simple kinetic model.

  • Mathematical model for coupled motions of Manta-type Unmanned Undersea Vehicle(UUV) moving with six degrees of freedom, is formulated. Furthermore, a calculation method for estimating the linear hydrodynamic derivatives acting on UUV, is proposed, and some of the estimated linear hydrodynamic derivatives are compared with results of captive model experiment. Based on linear dynamic model of UUV, a study was made to examine dynamic stability and turning ability in horizontal plane. And directional stability and required elevation rudder angles for neutrally operating in vertical plane, are also discussed.

  • The present investigation is concerned with two-dimensional deformation in a homogeneous isotropic non local thermoelastic solid with two temperatures due to thermomechanical sources. The theory of memory dependent derivatives has been used for the study. The bounding surface is subjected to concentrated and distributed sources (mechanical and thermal sources). The Laplace and Fourier transforms have been used for obtaining the solution to the problem in the transformed domain. The analytical expressions for displacement components, stress components and conductive temperature are obtained in the transformed domain. For obtaining the results in the physical domain, numerical inversion technique has been applied. Numerical simulated results have been depicted graphically for explaining the effects of nonlocal parameter on the components of displacements, stresses and conductive temperature. Some special cases have also been deduced from the present study. The results obtained in the investigation should be useful for new material designers, researchers and physicists working in the field of nonlocal material sciences.

  • A formulation for flexible multibody systems (MBS) is investigated, where rigid MBS substructures are coupled with flexible bodies described by a nonlinear finite element (FE) approach. Several aspects that turned out to be crucial for the presented approach are discussed. The system describing equations are given in differential algebraic form (DAE), where many sophisticated solvers exist. In this paper the performance of several solvers is investigated regarding their suitability for the application to the usually highly stiff DAE. The substructures are connected with each other by nonlinear algebraic constraint equations. Further, partial derivatives of the constraints are required, which often leads to extensive algebraic trans-formations. Handcoding of analytically determined derivatives is compared to an approach utilizing algorithmic differentiation.

  • A unified mathematical model of phase-lag Green-Naghdi magneto-thermoelasticty theories based on fractional derivative heat transfer for perfectly conducting media in the presence of a constant magnetic field is given. The GN theories as well as the theories of coupled and of generalized magneto-thermoelasticity with thermal relaxation follow as limit cases. The resulting nondimensional coupled equations together with the Laplace transforms techniques are applied to a half space, which is assumed to be traction free and subjected to a thermal shock that is a function of time. The inverse transforms are obtained by using a numerical method based on Fourier expansion techniques. The predictions of the theory are discussed and compared with those for the generalized theory of magneto-thermoelasticity with one relaxation time. The effects of Alfven velocity and the fractional order parameter on copper-like material are discussed in different types of GN theories.

  • Diazotized primary artomatic amines 4 coupled with the ketosulfones 1-3 in ethanol in the presence of sodium acetate at $0^\circ{C}$ to afford the corresponding bydrazones 5-7. Also diazotized 3-aminopyrazoles 14 coupled with 1-3 in ethanolic sodium acetate to give the pyrazolotriazines 18-20 in good yields. Compounds 5-7 and 18 can also be obtained from the reaction of hydraziodoyl halides 8-10 and 21 with sodium benzenesultinate. The hydrazones 11-13 can easy be oxidized to the hydrazones 5-7, using hydrogen peroxide in acetic acid.

  • In order to evaluate rolling characteristics of high speed container carrier the author developed yaw-sway-rudder coupled rool equation, which is likely to be 5th order differential equation. The free rolling time history with particular reference to automatic steering, was computed upon the base of the yaw-sway-rudder coupled roll equation. The computed result explained effects of $C_1$ and $C_2$ on rolling behaviors and furthermore the effect of $C_2$ proved to be very effective where $C_1$ and $C_2$ are yaw gin constant and yaw-rate gain constant of auto-pilot respectively. Computation was carried out using Matsumoto's data of hydrodynamic force derivatives of 5 meter long container model.

  • A series of 3'- and 4'-branched carbocyclic nucleosides 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30 were synthesized starting from simple acyclic ketone derivatives. The construction of the required quaternary carbon was made using a [3,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement. In addition, the installation of a methyl group in the 3'-position was accomplished using a Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons (HWE) reaction with triethyl 2-phosphonopropionate. Bis-vinyl was successfully cyclized using a Grubbs' catalyst (Ⅱ). Natural bases (adenine, cytosine, uracil) were efficiently coupled with the use of a Pd(0) catalyst.
