  • Enhanced Geothermal System (EGS) among geothermal system types enables to produce sustainable energy even in non-volcanic region while conventional geothermal energy has been restricted to obtain only from hot and permeable formation such as in volcanic regions. Successful EGS project in terms of economy, however, can be expected only when the project is managed effectively considering most of influencing factors (e.g., tangible and intangible resources, cost, time, risks, etc.). In particular, well construction is of the utmost importance in geothermal project as it dominantly influences on time and cost in the whole project. Therefore, when it comes to viable geothermal project without abundant experience, managing drilling economically and efficiently is inevitable. In this study, a project management system for well construction in geothermal project based on project control system including work breakdown structure and cost account was developed to predict and assess the performance of drilling and to visualize the progress.

  • The research, based on 200 cases of small interior works in6 different floor area types of apartment in Busan, intended to compare the architectural work with the breakdown structure and analyze the cost of general small-scale interior work, by work type. The outcome of the research is outlined as follows. (1) Given the cost of small interior works for apartmentsranges from 10 million to 15 million won, which correspond to apartments ranging in size from $79.2m^2$ (24PY) to $105.6m^2$, it is necessary to implement a cost analysis for material cost and labor cost for these two types. (2) Given that small interior work for apartments comprises mostly finishing work, unlike the categoriesof general architectural work, it is more reasonable to classify the works into 9 categories, which include embellishment, wood, tile, paint, metal, toilet, sink & furniture, electric & mechanical and other works, instead of the 22 divisions stipulated in the Korean Architectural Standard Specification. (3) After reviewing the average cost of small interior work and rate by floor area, it was found thatthe average cost of 24PY was 10.5 million won, of which metal work accounts for 12.8%, embellishment work 17.8%, and toilet 19.7%, while sink & furniture appeared to be the highest with 22.1%, while for 32PY, average cost was 12.5 million won, which comprises 7.4% wood work, sink & furniture 20.2%, toilet 23.4% and embellishment work the highest at 28.6%, indicating that embellishment work accounts for the greater portion.

  • The objective of this study is to implement a WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) so as to support efficient information management through the construction process of Steel Box Girder Bridge. To meet this requirement. This study performs the analysis of the business process. Through the work, information flows and information management levels are identified. Information management in each manufacturing process was various in its level. For the efficient information management, skating and utilization in schedule, cost, resource, and quality management, it is recommended to utilize a WBS composed of major work section and element structure of the steel box girder.

  • The importance of construction management has been increasing due to the fact that complex construction projects blend several different industries depending on the traits of the construction. This research was conducted to search for a method to enhance efficiency in cost management of construction project and meet the need for reusability of accumulated construction information. The process of detailed estimation and methodology for using standard unit price information has been developed to strengthen the interoperability in cost information by utilizing a standard classification system. The concept of ontology is proposed as a method of connecting construction information based on a standard breakdown structure to increasing the connectivity of the cost information in the construction project. Therefore, construction information knowledge framework is developed in order to improve the efficiency of the detailed estimation work process.

  • This paper details the design of a 1,200 V class trench gate field stop IGBT (insulated gate bipolar transistor) with a nano gate structure smaller than 1 um. Decreasing the size is important for lowering the cost and increasing the efficiency of power devices because they are high-voltage switching devices, unlike memory devices. Therefore, in this paper, we used a 2-D device and process simulations to maintain a gate width of less than 1 um, and carried out experiments to determine design and process parameters to optimize the core electrical characteristics, such as breakdown voltage and on-state voltage drop. As a result of these experiments, we obtained a wafer resistivity of $45{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$, a drift layer depth of more than 180 um, an N+ buffer resistivity of 0.08, and an N+ buffer thickness of 0.5 um, which are important for maintaining 1,200 V class IGBTs. Specially, it is more important to optimize the resistivity of the wafer than the depth of the drift layer to maintain a high breakdown voltage for these devices.

  • This study proposed a breakdown structure for maintenance and management technologies under the concept of comprehensive asset management at the life cycle level of infrastructure based on benchmarking with other developed countries. For this purpose, a comparative case study was performed to review and analyze the existing definitions and hierarchies for infrastructure maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation (MR&R) systems under major industrialized countries and South Korea. In accordance with the ratio of maintenance costs to GDP, the U.S., U.K, and Japan were selected to review their systems. The classifications and definitions of MR&R technologies under the laws were analyzed. The result showed that most developed countries differentiate maintenance and repair from improvement and constitute a system centered on preventive maintenance activities. On the other hand, Korea's system for facility management is not definitely classified and still focused on reactive structures, which need to be improved. In this study, as proposed, a breakdown structure established the concept of Maintenance and Management, Maintenance & Repair, and Performance Improvement. Consequently, this study could be used as the basis for the implementation of preventive MR&R activities and reasonable resource allocations from an asset management point of view.

  • One of the crucial components in building information modeling (BIM) is data. To systematically manage these data, various research studies have focused on the creation of object breakdown structures and property sets. Specifically, crucial data for managing programs and payments involves work breakdown structures (WBSs) and cost breakdown structures (CBSs), which are indispensable for mapping BIM objects. Achieving this requires disassembling CBS quantities based on 3D objects and WBS. However, this task is highly tedious owing to the large volume of CBS and divergent coding practices employed by different organizations. Manual processes, such as those based on Excel, become nearly impossible for such extensive tasks. In response to the challenge of computing quantities that are difficult to derive from BIM objects, this study presents methods for disassembling length-based quantities, incorporating significant portions of the bill of quantities (BOQs). The proposed approach recommends suitable CBS by leveraging the accumulated history of WBS-CBS mapping databases. Additionally, it establishes a unified CBS code, facilitating the effective operation of CBS databases.

  • Recent proliferation of building information modeling (BIM) has actively stimulated integrated utilization of geometric (graphic) and non-geometric (non-graphic) data. Nevertheless, physically and logically, linking and maintaining these two different types of data in an integrated manner requires enormous overhead efforts for practical implementation. In order to address this problem, this paper proposes a concept and structure of the object breakdown structure (OBS) that facilitates advanced BIM implementations in an automated and effective manner. Proposed OBS numbering system has secure rules for organizing graphic objects in full considerations of effectively integrating with non-geometric data (e.g. cost and schedule). It also removes repetitive linking process caused by design changes or modifications. The result of applying this concept to a housing project revealed that only 120 definitions controled over 6,000 graphic objects for full integration with cost and schedule functions.

  • To apply more effective the RCM analysis for railway vehicle, the maintenance cost per equipment should be considered together with failure criticality per equipment considered in existing. This paper is described the systematic calculation of maintenance cost considering the RCM analysis of railway vehicle. To calculate the maintenance cost systematically, the cost breakdown structure was established, and basic cost information and calculated cost items were defined. In addition, the linking between calculated cost and RCM analysis was considered. In future, this proposal would be used to analysis of cost effectiveness through RCM analysis of railway vehicle.
