This paper presents the numerical parametric analysis on the loading capacity of Channel purlins with screw-fastened sheeting, in which the effects of anti-sag bar and corrugated steel sheet on the ultimate capacity are studied. Results show that the setup of anti-sag bars can reduce the deformations and improve the ultimate capacity of C purlins. The traditional method of setting the anti-sag bars in the middle of the web is favorable. The changing of sheeting type, sheeting thickness and rib spacing has significant effects on the ultimate capacity of C purlins without anti-sag bars, compared with those with anti-sag bars. The proposed design formulas are relatively consistent with the calculations of EN 1993-1-3:2006, which is different from those of GB 50018-2002.
Concrete-filled steel tubes (CFSTs) nowadays are widely used as the main parts of momentous structures, and its connection has gained increasing attention as the complexity in configuration and load transfer mechanism. This paper proposes a novel CFST pier-to-footing incorporating tube-confined RC encasement. Such an innovative approach offers several benefits, including expedited on-site assembly, effective confinement, and collision resistance and corrosion resistance. The seismic behavior of such CFST pier-to-footing connection was studied by testing eight specimens under quasi-static cyclic lateral load. In the experimental research, the influences on the seismic behavior and the order of plastic hinge formation were discussed in detail by changing the footing height, axial compression ratio, number and length of anchored bars, and type of confining tube. All the specimens showed sufficient ductility and energy dissipation, without significant strength degradation. There is no obvious failure in the confined footing, while local buckling can be found in the critical section of the pier. It suggests that the footing provides satisfactory strength protection for the connection.
The current encased-concrete deep corrugated steel plate has an arch type plate structure, which is a compressive strength-dominant structure that has a small moment due to its arch shape. Therefore, it increases the strength against compression by adding reinforcements to make concrete-filling spaces for increasing the compressive strength and forming cross sections that contain reinforced concrete. In this study, the safety factor of the new-concept encased-concrete bridge plate member was evaluated by comparing the compressive strength obtained from the compressive tests, flexural tests and the design compressive strength determined by using the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC, 2003), which is a design standard for the encased-concrete bridge plate structures. The results of the safety factor evaluation using the design compressive strength and the test results showed that the safety factor was well above the appropriate value 2.0, which could be adjudged very conservative. If the safety factor based on this study results is considered and applied to the design, economical construction will be possible due to the reduced cross section and construction cost.
This study analyzed the structural and electrical characteristics of an iron fittings type Corrugated Stainless Steel Tubing (CSST) damaged by the Primary Current Injection Test System (PCITS). CSST consists of cladding, tube, nuts, clamp ring, flare cap, socket, and ball valve. For an evaluation of the dielectric withstand voltage, the area between the live part and non-live part of the CCST shall withstand a voltage of 220 V AC for one minute. For an evaluation of the insulation performance by 500 V DC, it is required that the insulation exceed more than $1M{\Omega}$ before the temperature rise test, $0.3M{\Omega}$ after the test. Although the average resistance of the product was $11.5m{\Omega}$, that of the product damaged at a current of 130 A by the PCITS was $11.50m{\Omega}$. Furthermore, parts of the cladding were melted and black smoke appeared when a current of 130 A applied for 10 s. After 60 s, most parts were heated and turned red. At 120 s, the parts that turned red had widened. Although it did not form a normal distribution because the P value was 0.019 with a confidential interval of 95%, it revealed outstanding characteristics with an AD (Anderson-Darling) value of 0.896 and a standard deviation of 0.5573.
Soil-steel structures have been used for the underpass, or drainage systems in the road embankment. This type of structures sustain external load using the correlations with the steel wall and engineered backfill materials. Buried flexible conduits made of corrugated steel plates for the coastal road was tested under vehicle loading to investigate the effects of live load. Testing conduits was a circular structure with a diameter of 6.25m. Live-load tests were conducted on two sections, one of which an attempt was made to reinforce the soil cover with the two layers of geo-gird. Hoop fiber strains of corrugated plate, normal earth pressures exerted outside the structure, and deformations of structure were instrumented during the tests. This paper describes the measured static and dynamic load responses of structure. Wall thrust by vehicle loads increased mainly at the crown and shoulder part of the conduit. However additional bending moment by vehicle loads was neglectable. The effectiveness of geogrid-reinforced soil cover on reducing hoop thrust is also discussed based on the measurements in two sections of the structure. The maximum thrusts at the section with geogrid-reinforced soil cover was 85-92% of those with un-reinforced soil cover in the static load tests of the circular structure; this confirms the beneficial effect of soil cover reinforcement on reducing the hoop thrust. However, it was revealed that the two layers of geogrid had no effect on reducing the overburden pressure at the crown level of structure. The obtained values of DLA decrease approximately in proportion to the increase in soil cover from 0.9m to 1.5m. These values are about 1.2-1.4 times higher than those specified in CHBDC.
This study is to analyze the characteristics of the yellow insulation ring type of the CSST used for tubing when it is artificially deteriorated and damaged by burning. The CSST for tubing consists of a tube, protective coating, nut, yellow insulation ring, packing, and socket. In addition, it is thought that a yellow insulation ring and rubber packing were used to connect the tube and socket in order to improve the airtightness and insulation performance. The result of the verification of the data acquired from the tests in the 95% confidence interval shows that the Anderson-Darling (AD) and P value were analyzed to be 0.945 and 0.015, respectively. This confirms that the test data of the CSST for tubing is reliable. The analysis of the arithmetic mean of the insulation resistance of a CSST showed that the CSST damaged by burning by a torch, and the one damaged by electrical burning, was $16.7k{\Omega}$ (the greatest relatively) and $208{\Omega}$ (the lowest), respectively, while it was $1.72k{\Omega}$ in the case of a normal product. Therefore, the analysis result of the insulation resistance of the CSST collected from the scene of a fire can be utilized to examine the cause of damage by burning. In addition, it was found that when the maximum current of 97 A was applied to the CSST for about 5 s using a Primary Current Injection Test System (PCITS) the protective film and insulation ring of the CSST has no difference from that of a normal product. However, a part of the metal tube was melted.

This paper presents the numerical results of six corrugation models which compute the stress behaviours and stress levels of the membrane structure under the hydrostatic pressure of cryogenic liquids and thermal loadings using a non -linear finite element analysis program. A three-dimensional analysis of various corrugation geometries was performed on the maximum mean normal stress distributions along the upper surface of the membrane sheet. Comparisons of the FEM results for various geometry models of the corrugation are presented, which shows that the corrugated configuration of the ring knot model can be effectively performed for the combined forces such as the hydrostatic pressure and thermal loading in comparison with the Technigaz type corrugation which has small comer and apex curvatures. The FEM results show that the ring knot corrugation can be used for the deepest depth, 180m of the LNG storage tank in comparison with other corrugation models.
In this study, conventional solvent extraction (CSE), microwave-assisted extraction (MAE), and ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) were compared for the recovery of paclitaxel from biomass. As a result of investigating the effect of the extraction solvent type (acetone, chloroform, ethanol, methanol, methylene chloride), methanol was the most suitable for all extraction methods. In the case of MAE and UAE using methanol, most of the paclitaxel (> 95%) was recovered by only one extraction. The recovery rate of paclitaxel increased with the increase of extraction temperature (25-45 ℃), microwave power (50-150 W), and ultrasonic power (180-380 W) for MAE and UAE. In addition, SEM analysis showed that the biomass surface structure was slightly corrugated in CSE, while in the MAE and UAE, it was very rough and destroyed by strong impact.

The changes in the wet pressing response of old corrugated container(OCC) stock depending on the beating treatment and the addition of polymer aids were investigated with laboratory roll press instrument. Two types of polymer aids, such as high molecular weight polymer with low charge density and low molecular weight polymer with high charge density, were applied in this study. The more beaten OCC stock showed the lower dryness after wet pressing. The addition of polymer aids had great influences on the wet pressing efficiency and paper properties. The dryness after wet pressing was increased by the addition of polymer aids, but the pattern of changes in dryness were different depending on the type of polymer and the properties of stock. The higher molecular weight polymer aids showed the greater increase in the dryness. The properties of paper such as air permeability, bulk, formation, tensile strength were also greatly affected by the addition of polymer aids.

We consider the capacitated lot-sizing and scheduling problem for a paper remanufacturing system that produces several types of corrugated cardboards. The problem is to determine the lot sizes as well as the sequence of lots for the objective of minimizing the sum of setup and inventory holding costs while satisfying the demand and the machine capacity over a given planning horizon. In particular, the paper remanufacturing system has sequence-dependent setup costs that depend on the type of product just completed and on the product to be processed. Also, the setup state at one period can be carried over to the next period. An integer programming model is presented to describe the problem. Due to the complexity of the problem, we modify the existing two-stage heuristics in which an initial solution is obtained and then it is improved using a multi-pass interchange method. To show the performances of the heuristics, computational experiments were done using the real data, and a significant amount of improvement is reported.
