  • According to recent studies, poor sitting posture of the spine has been shown to lead to a variety of spinal disorders. For this reason, it is important to measure the sitting posture. We proposed a strategy for classification of sitting posture using machine learning. We retrieved acceleration data from single tri-axial accelerometer attached on the back of the subject's neck in 5-types of sitting posture. 6 subjects without any spinal disorder were participated in this experiment. Acceleration data were transformed to the feature vectors of principle component analysis. Support vector machine (SVM) and K-means clustering were used to classify sitting posture with the transformed feature vectors. To evaluate performance, we calculated the correct rate for each classification strategy. Although the correct rate of SVM in sitting back arch was lower than that of K-means clustering by 2.0%, SVM's correct rate was higher by 1.3%, 5.2%, 16.6%, 7.1% in a normal posture, sitting front arch, sitting cross-legged, sitting leaning right, respectively. In conclusion, the overall correction rates were 94.5% and 88.84% in SVM and K-means clustering respectively, which means that SVM have more advantage than K-means method for classification of sitting posture.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the cohesion-related text factors that affected the correct answer rate of the English reading section in the Korean CSAT. To this end, reading passages of the 2014-2018 CSAT and CSAT mock test were collected and analyzed in terms of cohesion. And then, correlation analysis was implemented between the results regarding cohesion and item difficulty. The conclusions were as follows. First, the correct answer rate tended to increase as the linguistic burden of learners was reduced, when specific arguments between sentences were repeated. Second, there was no statistically significant correlation between the 8 sub-area of latent semantic analysis and the correct answer rate. Finally, the pedagogical implications of this study and suggestions for further study were discussed.

  • In this paper, we propose a new approach for rotation invariant texture classification based on Gabor wavelet. Conventional methods have the low correct classification rate in large texture database. In our proposed method, we define two feature groups which are the global feature vector and the local feature matrix. The feature groups are output of Gabor wavelet filtering. By using the feature groups, we defined an improved discriminant and obtained high classification rates of large texture database in the experiments. From spectrum symmetry of texture images, the number of test times were reduced nearly 50%. Consequently, the correct classification rate is improved with $2.3%{\sim}15.6%$ values in 112 Brodatz texture class, which may vary according to comparison methods.

  • Speech characteristics of Wernicke's aphasia are characterized by such errors as empty speech, jargon, paraphasia, filler and others. However, not all the errors can be observed in each patient presumably due to diverse auditory comprehension (AC) abilities and/or lesion loci. The purpose of this study was, thus, to clarify the speech characteristics of Wernicke's aphasics according to the AC levels (i.e., better vs. worse) and lesion loci (i.e., Wernicke's area, WA vs. non-Wernicke's area, NWA). The authors divided 21 Wernicke's aphasic patients into four patient groups based on their AC levels and the lesion loci. The results showed that the four groups differed only in CIU (Correct Information Unit) rate. The patient groups with a better AC ability had higher CIU rates than the groups with a worse AC regardless of the lesion loci (e.g., WA or NWA). Therefore, it was concluded that CIU rate, the differentiating speech variable was most likely related to the AC levels, but not to lesion loci.

  • Objectives. The age-based Cole formula has been employed for the estimation of endotracheal tube (ETT) size due to its ease of use, but may not appropriately consider growth rates among children. Child growth is assessed by calculating the body surface area (BSA). The association between the outer diameter of an appropriate uncuffed-endotracheal-tube (ETT-OD) and the BSA values of patients at 24-96 months of age was our primary outcome. Methods. Cole formula, BSA, age, height, weight and ultrasound measurement of subglottic-transverse-diameter were evaluated for correlations with correct uncuffed ETT-OD. The Cole formula, BSA, and ultrasound measurements were analyzed for estimation rates in all patients and age subgroups. The maximum allowed error for the estimation of ETT-OD was ${\leq}0.3mm$. Patients' tracheas were intubated with tubes chosen by Cole formula and correct ETT-OD values were determined using leak test. ETT exchange rates were recorded. Results. One-hundred twenty-seven patients were analyzed for the determination of estimation rates. Thirteen patients aged ${\geq}72months$ were intubated with cuffed ETT-OD of 8.4 mm and were accepted to need uncuffed ETT-OD >8.4 mm in order to be included in estimation rates, but excluded from correlations for size analysis. One-hundred fourteen patients were analyzed for correlations between correct ETT-OD (determined by the leak test) and outcome parameters. Cole formula, ultrasonography, and BSA had similar correct estimation rates. All three parameters had higher underestimation rates as age increased. Conclusion. The Cole formula, BSA, and ultrasonography had similar estimation rates in patients aged ${\geq}24$ to ${\leq}96months$. BSA had a correct estimation rate of 40.2% and may not be reliable in clinical practice to predict uncuffed-ETT-size.

  • In this paper, a matching method is proposed to improve the correct matching rate in stereo correspondence matching in which the fingerprint of zero-crossing points on the scale-space is used as the robust matching feature. The dynamic programming, which is appropriate for the fingerprint feature, is introduced for correspondence matching. We also improve the matching rate by using the post-processing for correcting mismatched points. In simulation, we apply the proposed algorithm to the synthetic and real images and obtain good matching results.

  • Dried Rehmannia Radix Preparat, produced in different geographic origins of Korea and China, were investigated for the trace element contents using X-ray fluorescence spectrometry. When the estimated data for 35 kind of elements including K, P, S, Cl, Si, Al, Fe, Sn, etc on 143 samples were analyzed by canonical discrimination technique, the average classification correct rate was 92.3% and the significance was less than 0.0001. In case of reducing the number of elements for statistic analysis from 35 to 8 and to 3, the correct rates were also reduced to 88.1% and to 84.6%. The correct rate for Chinese samples ranged from 94.6-96.0%, while those for Korean ranged from 72.5-89.9%.
