The thermodynamic behavior of phenolic resin was investigated to verify the relation between the properties of porous ceramics with $ZrO_2$-C system for submerged entry nozzle and the characteristics of phenolic resin with various relative humidity. The green and the sintered density were decreased between 25% and 50% relative humidity, whereas they were gradually enhanced above 50% relative humidity. The highest value of apparent porosity was 20.1% and the minimum compressive strength was 69MPa in the specimen using the powder exposed to 50% relative humidity. As a result of thermal analysis for phenolic resin, the shift of endothermic peak to low temperature and the reduction of exothermic peak were observed, and the peaks corresponded to melting and curing of phenolic resin, respectively. The melting and the curing of phenolic resin generate the change of green density, and it can affect the properties of submerged entry nozzle.

With the recent increase in demand for electronic devices, multi-layer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) have become the most important core component. In particular, the next-generation MLCC with extremely high reliability is required for the 4th industrial revolution and electric vehicle applications. Therefore, it is necessary to develop dielectric ceramic materials with high dielectric properties and reliability. During the decades, electrical properties of BaTiO3 based dielectric ceramics, which have been widely used in MLCC industrial field, have been improved by microstructure and defect chemistry control. However, electrical properties of BaTiO3 have reached their limits, and new types of dielectric materials have been widely studied. Based on these backgrounds, this report presents the recent development trends of BaTiO3-based dielectric materials for the next-generation MLCCs, and suggests promising candidates to replace BaTiO3 ceramics.
This study was performed to evaluate the fracture toughness of seven commercially available dental ceramics by indentation fracture method. All specimens were fabricated to the final dimensions of approximately 12mm in diameter 2mm in thickness. The characte-ristic indentation dimensions of Vickers or Knoop indentation were measured to calculate the fracture toughness values and Young’s moduli. The results obtained were summarized as follows; 1. Young’s modulus and Vickers hardness of Vita In-Ceram showed the maximum values of $154.4{\pm}49.2$ Gpa and $12.60{\pm}0.71$Gpa, respectively. Results of Scheff test exhibited the significant difference between Vita In-Ceram group and others(p<0.01). 2. Maximum fracture toughness of $2.562{\pm}0.37 MPam^{1/2}$ for Vita In-Ceram and the maxi-mum one of $0.908{\pm}0.132MPam^{1/2}$ for Vitadur-N were calculated. Results of Scheff test showed the significant difference between Vita In-Ceram group and Vita Hi-Ceram(p<0.05) : also between Vita In-Ceram or Vita Hi-Ceram and others(p<0.01). 3. The alumina-based core ceramics showed the aspect of Palmqvist crack for the indentation load of 49.0N, but others showed the median/lateral crack for the indentation load of 9.8N.
We report a synthesis of non-toxic InP nanocrystals using non-pyrolytic precursors instead of pyrolytic and unstable tris(trimethylsilyl)phosphine, a popular precursor for synthesis of InP nanocrystals. In this study, InP nanocrystals are successfully synthesized using hexaethyl phosphorous triamide (HPT) and the synthesized InP nanocrystals showed a broad and weak photoluminescence (PL) spectrum. As synthesized InP nanocrystals are subjected to further surface modification process to enhance their stability and photoluminescence. Surface modification of InP nanocrystals is done at $230^{\circ}C$ using 1-dodecanethiol, zinc acetate and fatty acid as sources of ZnS shell. After surface modification, the synthesized InP/ZnS nanocrystals show intense PL spectra centered at the emission wavelength 612 nm through 633 nm. The synthesized InP/ZnS core/shell structure is confirmed with X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Inductively Coupled Plasma - Atomic Emission Spectrometer (ICP-AES). After surface modification, InP/ZnS nanocrystals having narrow particle size distribution are observed by Field Emission Transmission Electron Microscope (FE-TEM). In contrast to uncapped InP nanocrystals, InP/ZnS nanocrystals treated with a newly developed surface modified procedure show highly enhanced PL spectra with quantum yield of 47%.
Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the ability of lithium disilicate ceramics to reproduce the A2 shade and to mask A4 substrates. Materials and Methods: Twenty-four discs (8 mm in diameter, shade A2) of high translucency (groups 1-3) and low translucency (groups 4-6) of IPS e.max ceramic with different thicknesses (0.5, 0.75, and 1 mm) were fabricated as monolithic structures. In addition, discs of medium opacity (group 7-8) with different core/veneer combinations (0.3 mm/0.7 mm and 0.5 mm/0.5 mm) were fabricated as bilayer structures. Specimens were superimposed on an A4 substrate (complex). The color changes of the complex were measured using a spectrophotometer on a black background, and the ΔE values of the complex were compared with either the A4 substrate or the A2 shade tab. One-way analysis of variance, the Tukey honest significant difference test, and the Fisher test were used to analyze the data (p < 0.05). Results: Significant between-group differences were found for comparisons to both the A4 substrate and the A2 shade (p < 0.05). When compared with the A4 substrate, the ΔE values in all groups were in the non-acceptable range. When compared with the A2 shade, the ΔE values in all groups, except groups 2 and 3, were in the clinically acceptable range. Conclusions: All translucencies and thicknesses masked the underlying dark substrate. However, the low-translucency IPS e.max Press better reproduced the A2 shade.
Purpose: This study focused on achieving desired shades by combining zirconia core with different thickness porcelain in order to make dental prostheses effectively. Methods: White and colored $LAVA^{TM}$ All Ceramic (3M-ESPE, Seefeld, Germany), and Zirkonzahn (Bruneck, Italy) Trans and prettau were used to have Zirconia. LAVATM Ceram (3M-ESPE, Germany) and ICE (Zirkonzahn, Italy) powder were used to have the porcelain. We made quadrilateral specimen of thickness 0.3mm, 0.5mm, 0.7mm and diameter 10 to use zirconia ceramics system of 2 kinds that color tone reappearance way is different and produced total 120 specimens to 4 experimental groups. We used Spectrophotometer to analyze color tone. Data's value getting by dispersal colorimetry period found L*, a*, b* value using Excel program. We used one-way ANOVA to use SPSS WIN 12.0 program. Results: All L*, a*, b* indexes of zirconia core and porcelain veneer in LAVA group and Zirkonzahn group were different. When you combine the white zirconia core of LAVA group with a porcelain veneer, the thickness of the porcelain must be more than 0.5mm to meet the standard target. When all the colored zirconia cores of LAVA group were combined with porcelain veneers, there was no significant difference from the standard target. When the zirconia cores of Zirkonzahn group are combined with porcelain veneers, the thinner thicknesses were closer to the standard tab than thicker thicknesses; however, there was a significant difference in all combinations, with Delta E* value indicating more than 3. Conclusion: When it comes to colored zirconia, which is the most popular, the thicknesses of both a core and a dentin veneer must be more than 0.3mm to get an appropriate shade. There is more possibility to get desirable shades when the thicknesses of a white core are thinner; however, they would be vulnerable to the environment and lose their color. When combine a zirconia core with a dentin veneer, using Zirkonzahn group needs more considerations in order to meet the standard target.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the bond strength of the core-veneer interface in all ceramic systems. Material and Methods: The all ceramic systems tested with their respective veneer were IPS Empress 2 with IPS Eris, IPS e.max Press with IPS e.max Ceram and IPS-e.max ZirCAD with IPS e.max Ceram. Cores (N=36, N=12/group, diameter: 10mm, thickness: 3mm) were fabricated according to the manufacturer's instruction and cleaned with ultrasonic cleaner. The veneer(diameter: 3mm, thickness: 2mm) were condensed in stainless steel mold and fired on to the core materials. After firing, they were again ultrasonically cleaned and embedded in acrylic resin. The specimens were stored in distilled water at $37^{\circ}C$ for 1 week. The specimens were placed in a mounting jig and subjected to shear force in a universal testing machine(Z020, Zwick, Germany). Load was applied at close to the core-veneer interface as possible with crosshead speed of 1.00mm/min until failure. Average shear bond strengths(MPa) were analyzed with a one-way analysis of variance and the Tukey test(${\alpha}=.05$). The failed specimens were examinated by scanning electron microscopy(JSM-6360, JEOL, Japan). The pattern of failure was classified as cohesive in core, cohesive in veneer, mixed or adhesive. Results: The mean shear bond strength($MPa{\pm}SD$) were IPS e.max Press $32.85{\pm}6.75MPa$, IPS Empress 2 $29.30{\pm}6.51MPa$, IPS e.max ZirCAD $28.10{\pm}4.28MPa$. IPS Empress 2, IPS e.max Press, IPS e.max ZirCAD were not significantly different from each others. Scanning electron microscopy examination revealed that adhesive failure did not occur in any all ceramic systems. IPS Empress 2 and IPS e.max Press exhibited cohesive failure in both the core and the veneer. IPS e.max ZirCAD exhibited cohesive failure in veneer and mixed failure.
Statement of problem. In-Ceram system is one of the all-ceramic crowns that can be used in anterior 3 unit fixed partial dentures and posterior single crowns. The alumina core used in In-Ceram system is manufactured using slip-casting technique. The slip-casting technique is difficult and technique sensitive. To improve this problem, tape-casting method was introduced into dentistry. There were no studies to examine the effect of margin design on the margin fitness of all-ceramic crowns fabricated from alumina tape. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to compare the marginal fitness of glass infiltrated alumina core fabricated from aqueous-based alumina tape according to different margin types ($90^{\circ},\;110^{\circ},\;135^{\circ}$ shoulder margin). Material and method. Three upper central resin incisors were prepared with $90^{\circ},\;110^{\circ}$, and $135^{\circ}$ shoulder margins for all-ceramic crowns, respectively. The resin teeth were duplicated and master die and special plaster die were made as usual. After alumina cores were fabricated from aqueous-based alumina tape, cores were cemented to each 15 epoxy dies replicated from three resin teeth with resin cement. These cemented cores were embedded in epoxy resin. Specimens were cut mesiodistally and buccolingually. Marginal gap and discrepancy were measured under microscope. Results. The marginal gap and discrepancy of $90^{\circ}$ marginal angle was $75.1{\mu}m,\;86.6{\mu}m,\;110^{\circ}$ marginal angle was $41.5{\mu}m,\;50.7{\mu}m$ and $135^{\circ}$ marginal angle was $51.7{\mu}m,\;54.2{\mu}m$, respectively. The smallest value was seen in 110 (angle, which was statistically significant compared to that of $90^{\circ}$ angle (p<0.05). Conclusion. Marginal fitness of alumina cores made of alumina tape with $110^{\circ}$ shoulder margin was best and others were clinically acceptable.

The effect of Cr$_2$O$_3$(0 to 0.5 wt%) doping on the microstructure and electrical properties of ternary Pb(Zr,Ti)O$_3$-Pb(Ni,Nb)O$_3$piezoelectric ceramic has been investigated. Abnormal grain growth (grain size 3.3 to 11.2 $\mu$m) and densification are found. Minor additives of $\leq$0.1 wt% improve the mechanical coupling factor, but with more additives of $\geq$0.2 wt% electrical properties deteriorate. Thus, these phenomna can be ascribed mainly to anomalous developed microstructure. The large grains were composed of a core region that is free of Cr and a surrounding shell region rich in Cr. The interfaces between the core and the shell were composed of misfit dislocations. The mechanical properties of the specimens were strongly influenced by this microstructural change. The microstrutural and compositonal evolution of the specimens containing different amounts of Cr$_2$O$_3$were monitored. Electrical properties were measured and related to the variations in the microstructure.
