A Comparative Study of Operation characteristics of Active Clamp Forward Converter Based on Loss Analysis (손실해석을 통한 능동 클램프 포워드 컨버터의 동작 특성비교)

  • In this paper, Operation characteristics of the active clamp(ACL) zero-voltage-switching(ZVS) forward converter(FC) and active clamp hard- switching(HS) forward converter are compared with respect to loss analysis. The losses of semiconductor (including conduction losses and switching losses), transformer(containing the core loss and copper loss) and parasitic element of passive element (capacitor, inductor) are measured and compared for each type. For an experiment we have built 50W ACL ZVS-FC and ACL HS-FC, in which the switching frequency is 200kHz, and test it. The experimental results show that both types of operation have nearly same characteristics.

A New Chemosensing Ensemble for Colorimetric Detection of Oxalate in Water

  • To realize highly selective recognition of oxalate in water, a new chemosensing ensemble that behaves highly selective colorimetric recognition of oxalate in water at pH 7.4 has been developed. The ensemble was constructed by a pyrrole containing mononuclear copper complex and chromeazurol S. The ensemble shows a highly selective recognition of oxalate through an obvious color change from blue to yellow upon the addition of oxalate, whereas, other dicarboxylates such as malonate, succinate, fumarate, maleate, glutarate, adipate, phthalate, isophthalate and terephthalate do not induce any noticeable color changes. The oxalate recognition process is not significantly affected by other coexisting dicarboxylate.

Fabrication of W-Cu Composite by Resistance Sintering under Ultrahigh Pressure

  • Resistance sintering under ultra-high pressure if developed to fabricate W-Cu composite containing 5 to 80v/o copper. The consolidation was carried out under pressure of 6 to 8 GPa and input power of 18 to 23 kW for 50 seconds. The densification effect and microstructure of these W-Cu composites are investigated. The effect of W particle size on ,sintering density was also studied. The micro hardness was measured to evaluate the sintering effect.

  • Reclamation coal ash, which is generated as a byproduct at a coal thermal power plant is not recycled but dumped into an ash landfill disposal site. Furthermore, various byproducts and wastes have been proposed for use from the point of reduction in the environmental load. Authors have started research to develope manufacturing technology of concrete mixture design method with large amount of land reclamation coal ash. In this study an optimum mix proportion design for utilizing the reclamation coal ash and containing copper slags as an aggregate for secondary concrete products such as a wave dissipating blocks was successfully developed.

Sinter-bonding of Iron Based Compacts Containing P and Cu

  • The sinter-bonding behavior of iron based powder mixtures was investigated. To produce the green compacts to be joined the following powders based on $H{\ddot{o}}gan{\ddot{a}}s$ AB grade NC 100.24 plain iron powder were used: NC 100.24 as delivered, PNC 30, PNC 60 and NC 100.24 + 4%Cu powder mixtures. Dimensional behaviour of all those materials during the sintering cycle was monitored by dilatometry. Simple ring shaped specimens as the outer parts and cylindrical as the inner parts were pressed. The influence of parts' composition on joining strength was established. Diffusion of alloying elements: copper and phosphorous, across the bonding surface was controlled by metallography, SEM and microanalysis.

  • Phenyl styryl ketone ligands 1-5 containing different functional groups were synthesized and attached to the aminated poly (styrene-divinvlbenzene) copolymer through diazotization. The coupling of the ligand with polymer was confirmed by FT-IR. The variation of the uptakes of Pb (II) or Cu (II) ions loaded in the prepared polymers (6-10) was examined at different pH values. An increase of metal uptake in the polymers was observed with the increase in pH value in aqueous solution.

  • Rotor in small-medium induction motor has been usually manufactured by aluminum diecasting. In order to improve efficiency of induction motors, newly developed Cu-Ca alloys have been investigated. The electrical conductivity in the Cu alloys containing Ca less than $1.0wt\%$ was higher than $80\%$ IACS. Cu-Ca alloy is desirable for the thixoforming process because it has wide semi-solid range over $150^{\circ}C$. In this study, Cu-rotor with thixoforming process was developed to replace the conventional aluminum diecasting rotor. Analysis microstructure of thixoforming rotor. effect of incomplete filling defect on the efficiency of induction motor was discussed.

Recovery of Gold from Electronic Scrap by Hydrometallurgical Process

  • A series of processes has been developed to recover the gold from electronic scrap containing about 200~600 ppm Au. First, mechanical beneficiation including shredding, crushing and screening was employed. Results showed that 99 percent of gold component leaves in the fraction of under 1mm of crushed scrap and its concentration was enriched to about 800 ppm without incineration. The crushed scrap was leached in 50% aqua regia solution and gold was completely dissolved at $60^{\circ}C$ withing 2 hours. Other valuable metals such as silver, copper, nickel and iron were also dissolved. The resulting solution was boiled to remove nitrous compounds in the leachate. Finally, a newly designed electrolyzer was tested to recover the gold metal. More than 99% of gold and silver were recovered within an hour by electrowinning process.

Determination of Pd(II) and Pt(II) Metal Cyano Complexes Using Capillary Electrophoresis

  • Mixtures of cyano complexes of palladium(II) and platinum(II) were separated by capillary electrophoresis using a fused silica capillary as a separation column and 30 mM phosphate buffer (pH 7) containing 15 wt. % acetonitrile as a running buffer. By virtue of the high ionic mobilities of the negatively charged cyano complexes of Pd(II) and Pt(II), they were separated using a cathodic injection and anodic detection scheme. The metal complexes eluted through the capillary were detected by direct UV absorption at 214 nm. A linear relationship between peak area and concentration was obtained for both ions and the detection limit was lower than $10^{-14}$ mole. The proposed method was applied to real sample, e.g., anode slime obtained from an electrolytic copper refinary, as a method for the simultaneous determination of palladium and platinum.
