A Study on Performance Characteristics of Propane/Isobutane Refrigerant Mixtures in a Domestic Small Multi-Refrigeration System (프로판/이소부탄(R-290/R-600a) 혼합 냉매를 적용한 가정용 소형 멀티 냉동시스템의 성능특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, the performance of Kim-chi refrigerator with three evaporator and one compressor was investigated in employing $55\%$ propane and $45\%$ isobutane (R290/R600a) refrigerant mixture as an alternative refrigerant of R134a. The drop-in test was performed by varying both refrigerant charge and capillary tube length in order to find both the performance and reliability of a small multi-refrigeration system. Results show that the power consumption is decreased by about $15\%$ and COP is increased by about $10\%$, respectively as compared to the baseline system using R-134a. In addition, the propane/isobutane refrigerant mixture system took advantage of the minimization of modification and redesigning of system components because thermodynamic properties such as saturation pressure, temperature, normal boiling point(NBP) characteristics are similar to those of R134a. The reduction of sales cost is caused by the decrease of refrigerant cost per unit mass and refrigerant charge amount necessary for the refrigeration system.

An Experimental Study of Liquid.Gas Heat Exchange Pipe Inserted Capillary Tube for Room Air-Conditioner (모세관 삽입 룸 에어컨용 액.가스 열교환 배관에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • This study shows the experimental characteristics of the double pipe inserted liquid pipe with small diameter in the gas pipe with large diameter for circulating of a liquid of high temperature, pressure and a gas of low temperature, pressure at the same time. So the functions of pipe and pipe's expansion and heat transfer are presented simultaneously. In the result, the temperature of gas refrigerant at the inlet of compressor increased about $5^{\circ}C$ by the heat transfer with liquid refrigerant in case of the double pipe. And liquid gas refrigerant which the temperature at the inlet of evaporator decreased about $3^{\circ}C$ comparing with the existing type flows into an evaporator COP of the double pipe increased about $7{\sim}10%$ comparing with that of the conventional pipe. And the noise of the double pipe at capillary tube is less than that of the conventional type about 3dB. Consequently. it is convinced the superiority of the double pipe in the heat loss and soundproofing aspect.

  • Purpose: Few studies have addressed the effect of diurnal circadian rhythms on postural stability, and thus the aim of the present study was to examine circadian effects on static and dynamic postural stability in young adults. Methods: Twenty-four subjects (9 men, 11 women: age=$22.20{\pm}1.77$, height=$167.20{\pm}10.47$, weight=$59.85{\pm}10.66$) from a university community volunteered for this study. Static and dynamic balance testing, which recorded using a Good Balance system (Good Balance, Metitur Ltd, Finland) was conducted at 9:00, 13:00, and 17:00 hours on two consecutive days, and the sequencing of static and dynamic balance tests were randomized. Results were analyzed using the non-parametric one-way repeated Friedman test in SPSS version 18.0 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA), and variable found to be significant were subjected to Wilcoxon post hoc testing. Results: Static and dynamic balance showed significant difference at the three times assessments (test at 9:00, 13:00, and 17:00) during circadian. In the post hoc test of static (anteroposterior distance, mediolateral distance and COP (center of pressure) velocity) and dynamic balance (performance time), 13:00 was the longer and faster than 9:00. Conclusion: These results indicated that control of postural balance is influenced by diurnal circadian rhythms, and confirm that control of postural balance is more effective and better performance in the 09:00 hours than 13:00 hours or 17:00 hours.

The Effect of Seed Coat Scarification with Sodium Hypochiorite on Germination of Zoysiagrass Seed (Zoysiagrass 종자 발아에 미치는 Sodiym Hypochlorite의 종피처리 효과)

  • Research was conducted to obtain t he optimum treatment Of sodium hypochlorite(NaOC I) at various temperatures in t he seed scarification for stimulating germination of zoysiagrass (Zocysia Japonica Steud ) seed. Morphological changes of seed coat were also examined by scanning electron micros cop(SEM). l. Differences in temperature of scarification with 2 .4% NaOCI showed little influence on promoting germination of seeds but seeds treated with 1% solution at l5˚C germinated less than that of higher temperatures. The promotion effect of 4% solution on germination was diminished when seeds were treated for 8 hours of more. The most favorable seed scarification unaffected hy temperature for enhancing germination was 4-6hours treatment at 4% solution in fresh seeds. 2. $GA_3$, treatment did not enhance germination of water-pretreated control seeds hut germination of seeds pretreated with NaOCI l was increased additional 10% or more hy$ GA_3$, Water pretreated control seeds treated with 50 mM hydrogen peroxide(H'O )germinated about 44%. In NaOCI treated seeds. $H_2$$O_2$ treatment increased germination additional l 0% or more. 3. NaOCI l and KOH treatment softened the seed coat and formed the pores hy removing the scab-like thikenings attached to the seed surface. These results suggest that the modes of action of NaOCl in the promotion of seed germination reside in it increase of the permeability of the seed coat, and in the provision of additional oxygen to the seed.

  • For the past few decades the vapor compression cycle with a solution circuit (VCCSC) has been known to provide high efficiency and variable capacity. In this study performance of a VCCSC cycle is examined through computer simulation. In the simulation heat exchangers were modelled by specifying UA or effectiveness values while the compressor performance was specified by an isentropic efficiency. Aqua/ammonia solution was chosen as the working fluid which can be used in the high temperature range. The results show that there exists an optimum operation condition which is dependent upon the temperatures of the external heat transfer fluids(HTFs). Besides the HTF\`s temperature, the maximum system pressure and the size of the solution heat exchanger are shown to have an influence on the optimum operation condition. Finally, as compared to a simple vapor compression heat pump with HFC134a, the COP of the VCCSC is shown to be 2∼22% higher.

  • When the suction pressure of compressor decreases under its limit, the compression ratio is increased causing the malfunctions of compressor. As the method to decrease the compression ratio, hot gas bypass system is usually adopted in heat pump system. In the hot gas bypass system, the discharged gas from the compressor is bypassed into the compressor suction, which causes the increase of suction pressure and the decrease of compression ratio. In this study, the characteristics and performances of the hot gas bypass system in heat pump was investigated experimentally with a variation of the bypass flow rate ratio. With the increase of the bypass rate ratio, the compressor suction pressure was increased, even though the total capacity and COP was decreased. From the analysis of the experimental results, the optimum pressure control algorithm was suggested in this study.

  • A dynamic model has been developed to investigate the operability of a single and double-effect solar energy assisted parallel type absorption chiller. In the study, main components and fluid transport mechanism were modeled. And solar radiation and the solar collector also were also modeled along with its control design. The model was run for the single mode with solar energy supply only and the solar/gas driving double effect mode. From the simulation results, it was found that the present configuration of the chiller is not capable of regulating solution flow rates according to variable solar energy input. And the issues of the excessive circulation flowrate and the mismatch between available solar power and cooling load discourages the use of the single mode, but the dual use of gas and solar power is recommendable in view of controllability and enhanced COP.

  • This study is intended to identify how quick disconnect coupling which connects with refrigerant piping of air-conditioner using R-22 refrigerant has effect on characteristics of flux. in the case where the air-conditioner installs utilizes quick disconnect coupling, COP has an effect on the quantity of cooling load because of changing flow rate and physical properties of refrigerant which flow into an entrance of expansion valve from coupling. Variation of flow rate can be regulated by changing expansion-contraction angle; $\alpha$ of an entrance and an exit of coupling.   • Since the cooling performance of a $CO_2$ cooling cycle is varied significantly with a variation of refrigerant charge amount and outdoor temperature, the reliability of $CO_2$ system is down. In this study, the performance characteristics of three kinds of $CO_2$ systems were measured and analyzed by varying refrigerant charge amount and outdoor temperature so as to study the characteristics of variation with cycle option. The applied system options are the single-stage compression(1C-1E) system, two-stage compression with 1-EEV(2C-1E) system, and two-stage compression with 2-EEV(2C-2E) system. The performances of two-stage compression with 2-EEV system were less sensitive than those of other systems and the system operated safely and steadily for wide charge amount. The performance of the two-stage compression with 1-EEV(2C-1E) system was the most sensitive to the charge amount, and that of the single-stage compression(1C-1E) system varied a lot with outdoor temperature.

  • Commercial buildings account for a significant proportion of the total building energy use in Korea, and cooling energy, in turn, accounts for the largest proportion of total energy consumption in commercial buildings. Under this circumstance, chiller staging is considered to be a reasonable and practical solution for cooling energy saving. In this study, the part-load ratio and the operating characteristics of a vapor compression chiller were analysed within an office building. In addition, energy consumption among different chiller staging schemes was comparatively analysed. As a result, significant proportions of total operating hours, cooling load and energy consumption turned out to be in the part load ratio range from 0% through 50%, and thus energy consumption was significantly affected by the chiller COP at low part-load conditions, indicating that the chiller operation at the part-load is an important factor in commercial buildings. In addition, utilizing a sequential chiller staging scheme can reduce the annual cooling energy usage by more than 10.3% compared to operating a single chiller.
