  • In order to improve the efficiency of the main transformer in a tilting train, the optimal operation of a cooling system is necessary. Mathematical models of a main transformer cooling system were developed. These include models for the main transformer, the oil pump, the oil cooler, and the blower. The optimal oil temperature algorithm was also developed. This consists of the optimal setpoint algorithm and the control algorithm. A simulation program was developed by using mathematical models and the optimal oil temperature algorithm. Simulation results showed that the dynamic behavior of a main transformer cooling system was predicted well by mathematical models and a main transformer cooling system was controlled effectively by the optimal oil temperature algorithm.

  • A revised VX cycle using ammonia/water as the working fluid is a cycle which is suitable to produce cooling utilizing low temperature hat sources. The cycle was analyzed numerically to investigate the effects of the design and operating conditions on the performance. It was shown that both COP and cooling capacity were significantly influenced by the performance of he rectifier. Insufficient UA of the rectifier reduced both ammonia mass fraction and mass flow rate of the vapor entering the condenser, which produced cooling effect in the evaporator. As the temperature and the mass flow rate of the heat source increased, both COP and exergetic efficiency decreased due to the irreversibilities produced in heat exchangers, but cooling capacity did not vary much. Cooling capacity increased significantly as the coolant temperature decreased, although COP and exergetic efficiency remained nearly constant.

  • The electric power load during the summer peak time is strongly affected by cooling load, which decreases the preparation ratio of electricity and brings about the failure in the supply of electricity in the electric power system. The ice storage system and heat pump system etc. are used to settle this problem. In this study, the method of estimating temperature and humidity to forecast the cooling load of ice storage system is suggested. The method of forecasting the cooling load using neural network is also suggested. The daily cooling load is mainly dependent on actual temperature and humidity of the day. The simulation is started with forecasting the temperature and humidity of the following day from the past data. The cooling load is then simulated by using the forecasted temperature and humidity data obtained from the simulation. It was observed that the forecasted data were closely approached to the actual data.

  • Nanoimprint lithography (NIL) is a next generation technology for fabrication of micrometer and nanometer scale patterns. There have been considerable attentions on NIL due to its potential abilities that enable cost-effective and high-throughput nanofabrication to the display device and semiconductor industry. Up to now there have been a lot of researches on thermal NIL, but most of them have been focused on polymer deformation in the molding process and there are very few studies on the cooling and demolding process. In this paper a cooling process of the polymer resist in thermal NIL is analyzed with finite element method. The modeling of cooling process for mold, polymer resist and substrate is developed. And the cooling process is numerically investigated with the effects of imprinting temperature and residual layer thickness of polymer resist on stress distribution of the polymer resist. The results show that the lower imprinting temperature, the higher the maximum von Mises stress and that the thicker the residual layer, the greater maximum von Mises stress.

  • Cooling clothes especially cooling vest are being considered for as an efficient way to reduce heat strain under hot environment. But wearing ice gel or ice-based cooling vest caused discomfort to subjects due to the weight of vest. Therefore, this study was executed to find efficient cooling parts and to reduce vest weight by cooling only these parts. Two male subjects were exposed to heat(40$^{\circ}C$, 30%RH) with A type(breast+back+abdomen+waist), B type(breast+back+waist), C type(breast+back+abdomen) and D type(breast+back) cooling vest that distinguished with cooling part. The results were as follows; When subjects were C type and D type vest, sweat volume was less and skin temperature was low. Heart rate and rectal temperature were low in B type and D type. These results suggest that excessive cooling of breast and abdomen may exert a bad influence to health and cooling of back is desirable.

  • The effects of operational conditions of cooling water system on energy consumption for central cooling system are researched by using TRNSYS program. Cooling tower water pump flow rate, cooling tower fan flow rate, and condenser water temperature with various dry-bulb and wet-bulb temperatures are varied and their effects on total and component power consumption are studied. If the fan maximum flow rates of cooling tower is decreased, cooling tower fan and total power consumptions are increased. If the cooling tower water pump maximum flow rates is decreased, chiller and total power consumptions are increased. If condenser water set-point temperature is increased, chiller power consumption is increased and cooling tower fan power consumption is decreased, respectively.

  • The effect of mold preheating temperature on the microstructure such as grain size, eutectic silicon morphology was investigated for the Al-7wt%Si-0.3wt%Mg alloy. Microstructural variations have been characterized as a function of Sr addition and cooling rate during solidification. Microstructures were correlated with cooling rate, local solidification time and eutectic nucleation temperature, etc. In this study, Sr addition caused increase of local solidification time, undercooling and reduction of eutectic plateau temperature. In logarithmic scale, local solidification time was in inverse proportion to cooling rate. Eutectic nucleation temperature was in inverse proportion to cooling rate of logarithmic scale. Increasing the cooling rate refined dendrite arm spacing and eutectic silicon. Dendrite arm spacing was logarithmically in inverse proportion to cooling rate. Without modifier addition, eutectic silicon was modified at cooling rate of $7^{\circ}C/s$ or higher.

  • To get higher efficiency of gas turbine, The designer should have more higher turbine inlet temperature (TIT). Today, modem gas turbine having sophisticated cooling scheme has TIT above $1,700^{\circ}C$. In the korea, many gas turbine having TIT above $1,300^{\circ}C$ was imported and being operated, but the gas with high TIT above $1,300^{\circ}C$ in the turbine will give damage to liner of combustor, and blade of turbine and etc. So frequently maintenance for parts enduring high temperature was performed. In this study, the heat transfer analysis of cooling air in the internal cooling channel (network analysis) and temperature analysis of the blade (Finite Element Analysis) in the first stage rotor was conducted for development of the optimal cooling passage design procedure. The results of network analysis and FEM analysis of blade show that the high temperature spot are occured at the leading edge, trailing edge near tip, and platform. so to get more reliable performance of gas turbine, the more efficient cooling method should be applied at the leading edge and tip section. and the thermal barrier coating on the blade surface has important role in cooling blade.

  • This paper presents a cooling system using thermoelectron for improving the output of BIPV module. The temperature characteristic in regard to improving the output of BIPV system has rarely been studied up to now but some researchers only presented the method using a ventilator. The cooling system efficiency of BIPV module applied to a ventilator mainly depends on the weather such as wind, insolation etc. Because the cooling system of BIPV module using a ventilator is so sensitive, that is being set off by wind speed at all time but is unable to operate in the NOCT(Nominal Operating Cell Temperature) which is able to make the maximum output. The paper presents the cooling system using thermoelectron so as to solve such problems. The temperature control of thermoelectron can be controlled independently in the outside environment because that is performed by micro-controller. The temperature control of thermoelectron, also, can be operated around NOCT through algorism of the temperature control. Therefore, outputs of the whole system increase and the efficiency rises. The paper demonstrates the validity of proposed method by comparing the data obtained through a experiment of the cooling method of BIPV using a ventilator and proposed thermoelectron.

  • This study is to observe the change of temperature and relative humidity for various vegetables in vacuum precooling system. The materials for experiments were the lettuce, chinese cabbage, pak choi and cabbage. The experimental apparatus was constructed of vacuum chamber, vapor/water separator, water tank, pumps ejecting and cooling water circulation, refrigerator unit, cooling coil for water cooling, Hygrometer and Data logger measuring of the temperature change. The experiments were operated in 20torr and recorded every 3 minutes. It was found that the cooling temperature and speed of vegetables are depending on the percentage of its water content. The more water contains, the faster cooling speed and the lower cooling temperature.
