Type II solar radio bursts show frequency drifts from high to low over time. They have been known as a signature of coronal shock associated with Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) and/or flares, which cause an abrupt change in the space environment near the Earth (space weather). Therefore, early detection of type II bursts is important for forecasting of space weather. In this study, we develop a deep-learning (DL) model for the automatic detection of type II bursts. For this purpose, we adopted a 1-D Convolution Neutral Network (CNN) as it is well-suited for processing spatiotemporal information within the applied data set. We utilized a total of 286 radio burst spectrum images obtained by Hiraiso Radio Spectrograph (HiRAS) from 1991 and 2012, along with 231 spectrum images without the bursts from 2009 to 2015, to recognizes type II bursts. The burst types were labeled manually according to their spectra features in an answer table. Subsequently, we applied the 1-D CNN technique to the spectrum images using two filter windows with different size along time axis. To develop the DL model, we randomly selected 412 spectrum images (80%) for training and validation. The train history shows that both train and validation losses drop rapidly, while train and validation accuracies increased within approximately 100 epoches. For evaluation of the model's performance, we used 105 test images (20%) and employed a contingence table. It is found that false alarm ratio (FAR) and critical success index (CSI) were 0.14 and 0.83, respectively. Furthermore, we confirmed above result by adopting five-fold cross-validation method, in which we re-sampled five groups randomly. The estimated mean FAR and CSI of the five groups were 0.05 and 0.87, respectively. For experimental purposes, we applied our proposed model to 85 HiRAS type II radio bursts listed in the NGDC catalogue from 2009 to 2016 and 184 quiet (no bursts) spectrum images before and after the type II bursts. As a result, our model successfully detected 79 events (93%) of type II events. This results demonstrates, for the first time, that the 1-D CNN algorithm is useful for detecting type II bursts.

A topic segmentation module is to divide statements or conversations into certain topic units. Until now, topic segmentation has progressed in the direction of finding an optimized set of segments for a whole document, considering it all together. However, some applications need topic segmentation for a part of document which is not finished yet. In this paper, we propose a model to perform topic segmentation during the progress of the statement with a supervised learning model that uses a convolution neural network. In order to show the effectiveness of our model, we perform experiments of topic segmentation both on-line status and off-line status using C99 algorithm. We can see that our model achieves 17.8 and 11.95 of Pk score, respectively.

In this study, we evaluated the accuracy of deep learning-based tree species classification model trained by using high-resolution images. We selected five species classed, i.e., pine, birch, larch, korean pine, mongolian oak for classification. We created 5,000 datasets using high-resolution orthophoto and forest type map. CNN deep learning model is used to tree species classification. We divided training data, verification data, and test data by a 5:3:2 ratio of the datasets and used it for the learning and evaluation of the model. The overall accuracy of the model was 89%. The accuracy of each species were pine 95%, birch 89%, larch 80%, korean pine 86% and mongolian oak 98%.
Tire wear and defect are important factors for safe driving condition. These defects are generally inspected by some specialized experts or very expensive equipments such as stereo depth camera and depth gauge. In this paper, we propose tire safety vision inspector based on deep neural network (DNN). The status of tire wear is categorized into three: 'safety', 'warning', and 'danger' based on depth of tire tread. We propose an attention mechanism for emphasizing the feature of tread area. The attention-based feature is concatenated to output feature maps of the last convolution layer of ResNet-101 to extract more robust feature. Through experiments, the proposed tire wear classification model improves 1.8% of accuracy compared to the existing ResNet-101 model. For detecting the tire defections, the developed tire defect detection model shows up-to 91% of accuracy using the Mask R-CNN model. From these results, we can see that the suggested models are useful for checking on the safety condition of working tire in real environment.
Simplified analytical solutions are developed for the dynamic analyses of an axially loaded pile foundation embedded in a transverse-isotropic, fluid-filled, poro-visco-elastic soil with rigid substratum. The pile is modeled as a viscoelastic Rayleigh-Love rod, while the surrounding soil is regarded as a transversely isotropic, liquid-saturated, viscoelastic, porous medium of which the mechanical behavior is represented by the Boer's poroelastic media model and the fractional derivative model. Upon the separation of variables, the frequency-domain responses for the impedance function of the pile top, and the vertical displacement and the axial force along the pile shaft are gained. Then by virtue of the convolution theorem and the inverse Fourier transform, the time-domain velocity response of the pile head is derived. The presented solutions are validated, compared to the existing solution, the finite element model (FEM) results, and the field test data. Parametric analyses are made to show the effect of the soil anisotropy and the excitation frequency on the pile-soil dynamic responses.

In the construction and development of modern industrial production technology, the traditional technology management mode is faced with many problems such as low qualification rates and high application costs. In the research, an improved workpiece defect detection method based on deep learning is proposed, which can control the application cost and improve the detection efficiency of irregular defects. Based on the research of the current situation of deep learning applications, this paper uses the improved Faster R-CNN network structure model as the core detection algorithm to automatically locate and classify the defect areas of the workpiece. Firstly, the robustness of the model was improved by appropriately changing the depth and the number of channels of the backbone network, and the hyperparameters of the improved model were adjusted. Then the deformable convolution is added to improve the detection ability of irregular defects. The final experimental results show that this method's average detection accuracy (mAP) is 4.5% higher than that of other methods. The model with anchor size and aspect ratio (65,129,257,519) and (0.2,0.5,1,1) has the highest defect recognition rate, and the detection accuracy reaches 93.88%.

Brain tumors are one of the most threatening malignancies for humans. Misdiagnosis of brain tumors can result in false medical intervention, which ultimately reduces a patient's chance of survival. Manual identification and segmentation of brain tumors from Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans can be difficult and error-prone because of the great range of tumor tissues that exist in various individuals and the similarity of normal tissues. To overcome this limitation, the Amended Convolutional Neural Network (ACNN) model has been introduced, a unique combination of three techniques that have not been previously explored for brain tumor detection. The three techniques integrated into the ACNN model are image tissue preprocessing using the Kalman Bucy Smoothing Filter to remove noisy pixels from the input, image tissue segmentation using the Isotonic Regressive Image Tissue Segmentation Process, and feature extraction using the Marr Wavelet Transformation. The extracted features are compared with the testing features using a sigmoid activation function in the output layer. The experimental findings show that the suggested model outperforms existing techniques concerning accuracy, precision, sensitivity, dice score, Jaccard index, specificity, Positive Predictive Value, Hausdorff distance, recall, and F1 score. The proposed ACNN model achieved a maximum accuracy of 98.8%, which is higher than other existing models, according to the experimental results.

Regularly inspecting vehicle tires' condition is imperative for driving safety and comfort. Poorly maintained tires can pose fatal risks, leading to accidents. Unfortunately, manual tire visual inspections are often considered no less laborious than employing an automatic tire inspection system. Nevertheless, an automated tire inspection method can significantly enhance driver compliance and awareness, encouraging routine checks. Therefore, there is an urgency for automated tire inspection solutions. Here, we focus on developing a deep learning (DL) model to predict cracked tires. The main idea of this study is to demonstrate the comparative analysis of DenseNet121, VGG-19 and EfficientNet Convolution Neural Network-based (CNN) Transfer Learning (TL) and suggest which model is more recommended for cracked tire classification tasks. To measure the model's effectiveness, we experimented using a publicly accessible dataset of 1028 images categorized into two classes. Our experimental results obtain good performance in terms of accuracy, with 0.9515. This shows that the model is reliable even though it works on a dataset of tire images which are characterized by homogeneous color intensity.
The advent of deep learning technology has made rapid progress in handwritten letter recognition in many languages. Handwritten Chinese recognition has improved to 97.2% accuracy while handwritten Japanese recognition approached 99.53% percent accuracy. Hanguel handwritten letters have many similar characters due to the characteristics of Hangeul, so it was difficult to recognize the letters because the number of data was small. In the handwritten Hanguel recognition using Hybrid Learning, it used a low layer model based on lenet and showed 96.34% accuracy in handwritten Hanguel database PE92. In this paper, 98.64% accuracy was obtained by organizing deep CNN (Convolution Neural Network) in handwritten Hangeul recognition. We designed a new network for handwritten Hangeul data based on GoogLenet without using the data augmentation or the multitasking techniques used in Hybrid learning.

Although the accuracy of handwritten character recognition based on deep networks has been shown to be superior to that of the traditional method, the use of an overly deep network significantly increases time consumption during parameter training. For this reason, this paper took the training time and recognition accuracy into consideration and proposed a novel handwritten character recognition algorithm with newly designed network structure, which is based on an extended nonlinear kernel residual network. This network is a non-extremely deep network, and its main design is as follows:(1) Design of an unsupervised apriori algorithm for intra-class clustering, making the subsequent network training more pertinent; (2) presentation of an intermediate convolution model with a pre-processed width level of 2;(3) presentation of a composite residual structure that designs a multi-level quick link; and (4) addition of a Dropout layer after the parameter optimization. The algorithm shows superior results on MNIST and SVHN dataset, which are two character benchmark recognition datasets, and achieves better recognition accuracy and higher recognition efficiency than other deep structures with the same number of layers.
