  • In order to apply UTM coordinates conversion in zones larger than $14^{\circ}$ wide, a new conversion formula, based on the 12th expansion of Taylor series, is derived which is shown to be an extension of Thomas' formula(1952). Some examples of coordinate conversion between WGS84 and UTM are presented and convergences of computational results are also tested according to the order of formula. The present conversion formula can be used to make rectangular coordinate grid systems for numerical models to compute long wave propagation such as tide or tsunami around Korea.

  • Formula for the area of a trapezoid is an educational material that can handle algebraic and geometric perspectives simultaneously. In this note, we will make up the expression equivalent algebraically to the formula for the area of a trapezoid, and deal with the conversion of a geometric point of view, in algebraic terms of translating and interpreting the expression geometrically. As a result, the geometric conversion model, the first algebraic model, the second algebraic model are obtained. Therefore, this problem is a good material to understand the advantages and disadvantages of the algebraic and geometric perspectives and to improve the mathematical insight through complementary activity. In addition, these activities can be used as material for enrichment and gifted education, because it helps cultivate a rich perspective on diverse and creative thinking and mathematical concepts.

  • The experimental evaluation of exposure conversion formula using the relationship between optical photo-density, exposure dose and the quality of radiation characteristics of radiation energy to X-ray and ${\gamma}-rays$. The film badge dosimeter is analysed by exposure conversion formula which evaluate image fading characteristics for development time and directional characteristics for incident beam angle. In conclusion, exposure conversion formula evaluated of this study is satisfied with quality decision criterion of the film badge dosimeter.

  • Several conversion formulas to convert peak particle velocity to vibration label were studied for their validity and applied to environmental dispute cases. Special cases like structural damage by blast vibration was accepted while mental damage was not accepted were discussed. Results show that inadequate formula was used or construction damage caused by subsidence or disturbance of ground were misidentified as vibration damage for some cases.

  • It is now common to find the wastes buried in the past during the excavation process of soil for large scale housing and land development. Without proper treatment of the wastes environmentally, the excavation process is no longer able to proceed, and an action plan should be provided to treat the wastes with environmental and economic viability. In the study, the relationship between the apparent density of the wastes and the volume conversion factor, which is the basis in the estimation of waste treatment cost was investigated. From 10 sampling points of a landfill site, wastes were sampled, analyzed for physical characteristics, and the apparent density of mixed and sorted waste was assessed. Applying the empirical formula, and the formula we suggested here, the volume conversion factors were compared with that measured directly in the field using dump truck and excavator. Obviously there was a close relationship among the volume conversion factors resulting from the empirical formula, the formula we suggested and that measured in the field.

  • We calculate moment magnitudes of earthquakes occurred in the southern part of the Korean Peninsula from January, 2001 to February, 2004 and compare them with local magnitudes published by KMA(Korea Meteorological Administration) and KIGAM(Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources). From this study, we find that local magnitudes of KIGAM have higher correlation with moment magnitudes than local magnitudes of KMA have. We induce a proper conversion formula by analyzing relation between published local magnitudes and calculated moment magnitudes. The induced formula can be used to unify kinds of magnitudes in earthquake catalogues and unified earthquake catalogues can be applied as necessary factors for analyzing earthquake characteristics, seismic hazards or attenuation formulas in the southern part of the Korean Peninsula.

  • Although standard method of test for liquid limit procedure is issued under the fixed designation KSF-2303 in 1968, for both of general method and on point method, the latter of which is not still favorably used among laboratory engineers with its defficiency of adquate informations. This study intended as to furnish proper information to the laboratory engineers for the use of one point liquid limit test with full advantages of time-saving and labor-saving. further more, the following conversion formula to the one point method VS. general method is presented by the results of analytical study on 1017 Soil sampls existing liquid limit test data The formula is; $$W_L = W(\frac{N}{25})^{0.118}$$ The conversion factor (table-4) is also attached for the convenience of the users.

  • Background: Price control alone may not successfully restrain growth in health expenditures. This study aimed to propose fee adjustment model suitable for Korea reflecting health service volume and to clarify applicability of the model by comparing actual conversion factor with estimated conversion factor from simulation of this model. Methods: Fee adjustment model was developed based on Alberta's fee adjustment formula in Canada and 7 alternatives were assessed according to diversely applied parameters of the model. Results: Estimated conversion factors of the tertiary care hospital and the hospital were lower than actual conversion factors, since the utilization of heath service has been increased. However, there was no big difference between estimated conversion factors and actual conversion factors of the general hospital and the clinic. Eventually this fee adjustment model could estimate proper conversion factor reflecting health service volume. Conclusion: This model may be applicable to the mechanism as determining conversion factor between insurer and provider via negotiation and controling growth in health expenditures.

  • Recently, as the number of years of operation has increased for more than 30 years, interest in evaluating the remaining life of major power facilities such as transformers and ultra-high voltage cables is increasing. In particular, the risk of failure is increasing because the underground transmission XLPE cable has been built since 1980 and has been operating in excess of 30 years of design life or close proximity. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an algorithm to evaluate the residual life of the XLPE cable considering the load to determine the risk of failure. Since load data is large amount of data, it is necessary to make the variable load information equivalent to the time unit first in order to calculate the remaining life of the system quickly. In overseas literature, transformers are reported to be standardized for variable load equivalent conversion formulas, but they have not been reported for ultra-high voltage cables. Therefore, in this paper, whether the equivalent conversion formula of a transformer can be applied to XLPE cables was reviewed through accelerated degradation tests under equivalent and variable temperature conditions, and considerations were studied when evaluating the remaining operating life of XLPE cables based on the experimental results.

  • This paper presents the analysis of the effects of non-uniform slots in a line start permanent magnet (LSPM) motor. For purposes of the investigation, the simple formula of $2^{nd}$resistance for rotors having different slot areas is deduced. The characteristic analysis using the formula is performed and compared with measurement results.
