Estimation of Disparity Map having Reliability to Changes of Radiometric (Radiometric 특성 변화에 신뢰성을 가지는 Disparity Map 예측)

  • The aim of the estimation of disparity map is to find the corresponding pixels from similar two or more images. However, it is a difficult problem to get precise and consistent disparity under a variety of real world situations. In other words, the color values of stereo images are easily influenced by radiometric properties such as illumination direction, illumination color, and camera exposure. Therefore, conventional stereo matching methods can have low performances under radiometric conditions. In this paper, we propose an approaching of disparity map estimation that is reliable in controlling various radiometric variations close to the real environment. This method is motivated by following constancy. Even though each other has different radiometric property in stereo images, intensity of pixels of object have general constancy in specific block. Experimental results show that the proposed method has better performances compared to the comparison group under different radiometric conditions between stereo images. Consequentially, the proposed method is able to estimate the disparity map in stable under various radiometric variations.

  • This paper suggests a new system based on image-processed information which is designed to control traffic light by measuring two-way traffic at the same time with a surveillance camera. With this system, the existing way of using one camera for one lane or loop coil will be improved to the more effective way of using only one camera to monitor a two-way, 8 lane roads statistically. Car images can be detected clearly even in irregular condition because of the background updating in real time. In addition, more accurate measurement is possible to users by selecting extra attention-needed regions. The automatic traffic light controlling algorithm, suggested in this paper, will prevent users and drivers from wasting their time and energy by controlling the number of traffic in advance.

Design of Miniaturized Telemetry Module for Bi-Directional Wireless Endoscopy

  • A bi-directional and multi-channel wireless telemetry capsule, 11mm in diameter, is presented that can transmit video images from inside the human body and receive a control signal from an external control unit. The proposed telemetry capsule includes transmitting and receiving antennas, a demodulator, decoder, four LEDs, and CMOS image sensor, along with their driving circuits. The receiver demodulates the received signal radiated from the external control unit. Next, the decoder receives the stream of control signals and interprets five of the binary digits as an address code. Thereafter, the remaining signal is interpreted as four bits of binary data. Consequently, the proposed telemetry module can demodulate external signals so as to control the behavior of the camera and four LEDs during the transmission of video images. The proposed telemetry capsule can simultaneously transmit a video signal and receive a control signal determining the behavior of the capsule itself. As a result, the total power consumption of the telemetry capsule can be reduced by turning off the camera power during dead time and separately controlling the LEDs for proper illumination of the intestine.

Suggestions of Movement-Assistive Knee Pad Designs: Focusing on Preference and Satisfaction Evaluations Using Virtual Avatars' Wearing (움직임 보조를 위한 무릎 보호대 디자인 제안: 선호도 및 가상 착용 이미지를 이용한 만족도 평가를 중심으로)

  • This study evaluated designs via the consumers' function and design preferences survey for using product design images, virtual avatar wearing images and product explanations that identified consumers' function and design preferences for knee protection pads as well as to develop movement assistive knee pad designs. We developed Design A for men and Design B for women. For Design A, the front of the knee supports muscles and alleviates pain with a hole. Mesh material with good ventilation was applied to enhance wearing comfort. The color was achromatic for a modern style, and the hook fastener and loops enabled easy wear and removal of the pad while controlling size and pressure strength. For Design B, taping details seamlessly support muscles in the knee area with fabrics less than 0.1 cm thick and with long sleeves in the diverse sizes. The design's satisfaction assessment showed that potential consumers were satisfied with Design A and Design B for overall design and functional features. Over 77% wanted to use/wear and purchase designs; in addition, over 78% expected it would help with walking and relieve knee pain. The results can be helpful for designers when deciding designs for manufacturing and commercializing kneepad products.

Three-Dimensional Visualization for Chemical Components within Rice Particle With a Microslicer-Infrared Microscope System

  • A novel technique has been developed to observe the three-dimensional (3-D) distribution of chemical components in biological materials using both automatic sectioning microtome and infrared microscope. The 3-D image was reconstructed based on the relationship between the content and the absorbancy of specified wavelength for chemical components. By using the automatic sectioning microtome, the kernel of rice sample fixed in paraffin was sequentially sliced with the thickness of $5\;\mutextrm{m}$ after pasting the sliced sectional specimens on an adhesive tape. The chemical components of the specimens, which are placed on the X-Y controlling stage with positioning accuracy of ${\pm}10\;\mutextrm{m}$, were analyzed by the infrared microscope. The 3-D images demonstrated that the zonal protein about $200\mutextrm{m}$ in width was observed mainly at the outer parts of a rice particle, and carbohydrates entirely. These images can be observed by choosing arbitrary observation angle. The result indicated that the developed technique could be applied 3-D information to investigate intrinsic chemical components but also residual pesticides as well as bacteria contamination for agricultural produce.

  • This study aims to design and implement the finger gesture recognizing system that automatically recognizes finger gestures input through a camera and controls the computer. Common CCD cameras were redesigned as infrared light cameras to acquire the images. The recorded images go through the pre-process to find the hand features, the finger gestures are read accordingly, and an event takes place for the follow-up mouse controlling and presentation, and finally the way to control computers is suggested. The finger gesture recognizing system presented in this study has been verified as the next-generation interface to replace the mouse and keyboard for the future information-based units.

  • In this paper, we propose a method for controlling camera focus in the short distance by analyzing NTSC signal of a CCD camera. When the distance between a camera and an object is less than about 1 meter, the existing CCD cameras with auto-focusing function are hard to acquire the proper images because they focus on the protruding minute parts ofthe object without taking into account the whole state of the object. To solve such a problem, we use an annealing algorithm to control the motor of a camera by analyzing the overall signal obtained from the camera. By doing so, we can acquire the adequate images at the near distance. The proposed method will be used for a personal identification system by human iris patterns.

  • In this paper, we will introduce some method about retrieving suitable images to game or adjusting game difficulty in enjoying some contents like mini-game. It will use the technology about extracting color and texture features in content-based image retrieval in image processing. So in card game, it select card image automatically. And by controlling seed image number, we can adjusting game difficulty. Through the experiment, it shows that our image retrieval method can retrieve more useful images that can be used in game than others.

  • Recently, there are lots of concerning on ubiquitous environment of robots and URC (Ubiquitous Robotic Companion). In this paper, a practical ubiquitous interface system far controlling mobile robots in indoor environments was proposed. The interface system was designed as a manager-agent model including a PC manager, a mobile manager, and robot agents for being able to be accessed by any network. In the system, the PC manager has a 3D virtual environment and shows real images for a human-friendly interface, and share the computation load of the robot such as path planning and managing geographical information. It also contains Hybrid Format Manager(HFM) working for transforming the image, position, and control data and interchanging them between the robots and the managers. Mobile manager working in the minimized computing condition of handsets has a mobile interface environment displaying the real images and the position of the robot and being able to control the robots by pressing keys. Experimental results showed the proposed system was able to control robots rising wired and wireless LAN and mobile Internet.

  • We are surrounded by so many images these days. These images have their own meanings and have an effect on our subject, whether consciously or unconsciously. Michel Foucault disclosed that upon closer examination the rationalism deeply rooted in Western society was not made autonomously but involuntarily by heteronomous power. Because the emotion of image within this relationship can be effectively conveyed just through its being seen, the image has been used for controlling and mustering people through the adjustment of its meaning by power. With the advance of technology and media of today, the image in this visual power is out of the object for reproduction, and then forms a new paradigm of manipulation, transformation and reproduction and is being changed to the formation of Panopticon power and its corresponding relationship.
