  • Driver acceptance of autonomous driving is very important. The autonomous driving longitudinal controller, which is one of the factors affecting acceptability, consists of a high-level controller and a low-level controller. The host controller decides the cruise control and the space control according to the situation and creates the required target speed. The sub-controller performs control by creating an acceleration signal to follow the target speed. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to improve the inter-vehicle distance fluctuations that occur in the cruise control and space control switching problems in the host controller. The proposed method is to add an approach algorithm to the cruise control at the time of switching from cruise control to space control so that it is switched to space control at the correct switching distance. Through this, the error was improved from 12m error to 4m, and actual vehicle verification was performed.

  • The paper proposes a new type of robust speed control strategy for permanent magnet synchronous motor by using PD-sliding mode hybrid control. The PD control has a good performance in the transient region while the sliding mode controller provides the robustness against system uncertainties. Taking advantages of the two control strategies, the proposed control method utilizes the PD control in the approaching region to the sliding surface and the sliding mode control near at the sliding surfaces. The chattering problem of the sliding mode controller is eliminated by applying the saturation function for the switching function of the sliding mode control. The stability of the sliding mode control is verified by using Lyapunov function with the proper selection of variable gains. It is shown that with this simple switching algorithm, stability of the overall hybrid control system is ensured. Through the simulations, the PD-sliding mode algorithm is shown to have a good performance in the transient response as well as being robust against disturbances. The robustness of the PD-sliding mode algorithm is further demonstrated against various external disturbances in the real experiments of SPMSM motor control.

  • In this paper an auto-switching energy harvesting circuit using vibration and thermoelectric energy is proposed. Since the maximum power point of a thermoelectric generator(TEG) output and a vibration device(PEG) output is 1/2 of their open-circuit voltage, an identical MPPT controller can be used for both energy sources. The proposed circuit monitors the outputs of the TEG and PEG, and chooses the energy source generating a higher output voltage using an auto-switching controller, and then harvests the maximum power from the selected device using the MPPT controller. The proposed circuit is designed in a $0.35{\mu}m$ CMOS process and its functionality has been verified through extensive simulations. The designed chip occupies $1.4mm{\times}1.2mm$ including pads.

  • A novel switching differentiator-based backstepping controller for uncertain pure-feedback nonlinear systems is proposed. Using asymptotically convergent switching differentiator, time-derivatives of the virtual controls are directly estimated in every backstepping design steps. As a result, the control law has an extremely simple form and asymptotical stability of the tracking error is guaranteed regardless of parametric or unstructured uncertainties and unmatched disturbances in the considered system. It is required no universal approximators such as neural networks or fuzzy logic systems that are adaptively tuned online to cope with system uncertainties. Simulation results show the simplicity and performance of the proposed controller.

  • The development of a fast, accurate, and inexpensive position-controlled pneumatic actuator that may be applied to various practical positioning applications with various external loads is described in this paper. A novel modified pulse-width modulation (MPWM) valve pulsing algorithm allows on/off solenoid valves to be used in place of costly servo valves. A comparison between the system response of the standard PWM technique and that of the modified PWM technique shows that the performance of the proposed technique was significantly increased. A state-feedback controller with position, velocity and acceleration feedback was successfully implemented as a continuous controller. A switching algorithm for control parameters using a learning vector quantization neural network (LVQNN) has newly proposed, which classifies the external load of the pneumatic actuator. The effectiveness of this proposed control algorithm with smooth switching control has been demonstrated through experiments with various external loads.

  • Electromagnetic levitation system(EMLS) is one of the well known nonlinear systems. Often, it is not easy to control an EMLS due to its high nonlinearity. In this paper, we first apply two linearization method(jacobian and input-output feedback linearization) to design two feedback controllers for an EMLS. Then, by observing the advantages of each controller, we design a switching control algorithm which engage two controllers depending on the position of the steel ball in order to achieve the improved performance over each controller. The validity of our switching control approach is verified via both simulation and actual experimental results.

  • DC-DC converter with chopper is seen to have problems, such as, loop instability and degradation of transient response, due to the interaction between input filter and switching regulator. In this paper, the switching regulator consisting of input filter and double chopper is analyzed, and the state space model at continuous current mode and the transfer function between duty ratio of switching pulse and output voltage are derived. The controller in this paper is designed as feedforward(P) and feedback(PI) control scheme to minimize the variation of output voltage, and computer simulation results are presented to show the performance of the proposed controller.

  • This paper describes a current regulated PWM boost type rectifier based on modified trapezoidal PWM. Each switch of a converter has no switching for one third period of a fundamental line current. Therefore, the switching loss of the proposed scheme is less than that of the hysteresis current controller. Operating principle is described and controller. Operating principle is described and simulations and experiments are carried out.
