The Influence of Combustor Atmospheric Pressure on Flame Characteristics (연소실 분위기 압력이 화염형상에 미치는 영향)

  • Recently, development of flame control scheme has been hot issues in the combustion engineering. It has been held that flame shape can be controllable by pressure inside combustor. The influence of combustor atmospheric pressure on flame shape was investigated in the present study. The flame shape, flammable limit, flame temperature and nitric oxide emission were measured as functions of combustor atmospheric pressure and equivalence ratio. The reaction region became longer and wider with decreasing combustor atmospheric pressure by direct photography, hence reduction of blow off limit. This tendency was also observed in the mean flame temperature distribution. Nitric oxide emission decreased with decreasing combustor atmospheric pressure. Low NOx combustion is ascribed to wide-spread reaction region in the low atmospheric pressure condition. These results demonstrate that flame shape and nitric oxide emission can be controllable with combustor atmospheric pressure.

Dispersive Delay Lines Based on the Use Of Narrow Open Metal Reflectors and Fan-Shaped Transducers

  • An in-line dispersive delay line (DDL) demands low and controllable reflectivity of the reflectors, especially if the surface acoustic wave (SAW) propagates all the way along the reflecting structure. The metal reflectors are usually too strong and introduce too much attenuation in such a device. The proposed solution of this problem is to spatially separate the acoustic channels for different frequencies with the help of Fan-shaped Transducers (FIDT) and to use narrow open metal reflectors to reduce reflectivity. Special arrangement of FIDT is performed to use 180-deg. reflection of the SAW. Narrow open metal strips with a metallisation ratio of the order of 20% are used as reflectors with small and controllable reflectivity. Reflectivity of such strips is estimated both theoretically and experimentally. Experimental performance of the proposed DDL is presented.

  • The engine cooling system for a medium duty V6, 4.5 L diesel engine was modeled with a commercial code, GT-Cool in order to investigate the effect of controllable electric pump on the cooling performance and the fuel economy. The simulation results of the cooling system model with mechanical coolant pump were validated with experimental data. Two different types of electric pumps were implemented into the cooling system model and PID control for electric pump operation was incorporated into the simulation study. Based on the simulation result with electric pump, conventional thermostat hysteresis was modified to reduce pump operation for additional improvement of fuel economy, and then the benefit of electric pumps with modified thermostat hysteresis on fuel economy was demonstrated with the simulation. The predicted result indicates that the cooling system with electric pump and modified thermostat hysteresis can reduce pump power consumption by more than $99\%$ during the FTP 74 driving cycle.

  • Using the known result of the expected busy period for a controllable M/G/1 queueing model operating under the triadic Max (N, T, D) policy, its upper and lower bounds are derived to approximate its corresponding actual value. Both bounds are represented in terms of the expected busy periods for the dyadic Min (N, T), Min (N, D) and Min (T, D) and simple N, T and D operating policies. All three input variables N, T and D are equally contributed to construct such bounds for better estimation.

  • In this paper we propose a controllable interrupt timer for haptic control system. haptic control system whihc was divided ito two processes as virtual environment(VE) manager and haptic controller. The VE manager displays the 3D graphic scene at low update rates 25Hz and haptic controller controls the haptic display at high update rates 1000Hz. To archive the accurate update rate we have imple-mented a timer so called "AaccTimer" based on Windows multimedia functions, The proposed "Acc Timer" for haptic control system has been imple- mented in a personal computer with a 6-DOF haptic interface. Experimental results show that our system is robust with respect to tolerances in the control rates and also through the accurate control rate the operator can always feel a stable force.feel a stable force.

  • A current sourced bi-directional wireless power transfer (WPT) system is proposed to solve the problems that exist in the bi-directional WPT for vehicle-to-grid (V2G) systems. These problems include the fact that these systems are not safe enough, the output power is limited and the control methods are complicated. Firstly, the proposed system adopts two different compensation and control methods on both the primary and secondary sides. Secondly, based on an AC impedance analysis, the working principle is analyzed and the parameter configuration method with frequency stability is given. In order to output a constant voltage, a bi-directional DC/DC circuit and a controllable rectifier bridge are adopted, which are based on the "constant primary current, constant secondary voltage" control strategy. Finally, the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed methods are verified by experimental results.

  • In this paper suggested methods for current control in active filter are using the triangular carriers which were composed of independently generated threefold carriers and controllable current source which compensates the harmonics generated independently from the types of the load with instantaneous amplitude adjusting from the maximum magnitude of the compensating currents. And the 2-nd order high pass passive filter connected to the source finally supplies pure sinusoidal waves by suppressing the residual harmonics which cannot removed by the active filter. As the typical load which generates the harmonics, a rectifier was set and the system was also designed by simulations and implementations.

  • In this study, the analysis of the static and dynamic characteristics of the load-sensitive hydraulic pump control system used in the hydraulic excavator was performed by hydraulic circuit ananlysis program. Thess results was verified by the experimental data of the hydraulic excavtor system. The responses on effective parameters of system at the controllable region and the pressure variation of the pump used in hydraulic excavator system was studied to enhance the static performace of the system. the parameter enhance dynamic sharacteristics was considerd.

  • Electro-Rheological (ER) fluid is applied to a controllable squeeze film damper (SFD) for stabilizing a flexibly supported rotor system. ER fluid is a class of functional fluid whose yield stress varies according to the applied electric field strength, which is observed as viscosity variation of the fluid. In applying ER fluid to a SFD, a pair of rings of the damper can be used as electrodes. When the electrodes are divided into a horizontal pair and a vertical one, the SFD can produce damping force in each direction independently. A prototype of the directionally controllable SFD was constructed and its performance was experimentally and numerically investigated in the present work.

  • Taguchi method is a technique widely used in industries to attain a reliable quality even under existence of various noise variables. Basically, it relies on the interactions between the controllable and the noise factors. Under insignificant interactions between the design parameters and noises, the effectiveness of Taguchi methodology will be doubtful. Furthermore, existence of strong interactions among controllable factors may undermine the power of Taguchi approach. An abundant crop may be expected by a well planned Taguchi approach. A well designed set of experiments is one of the important prerequisites for its successful result. For this, we must have a clear understanding on strengths and weaknesses of Taguchi methodology together with a sound knowledge on the applicable system. This study provides some insights on Taguchi approach based on two case examples of one successful and the other unsuccessful. Eventually, this research aims to facilitate deeper understanding and right application of Taguchi methodology in industries.
