  • Earlier efforts on optical access concentrated on the design of PONs for the collection and distribution portion of the access network PON architecture is very simple but it requires MAC protocol for control of upstream traffic This paper proposes a Request-Counter MAC protocol for a broadband access network using an ATM Passive Optical Network supporting CBR/rtVBR, nrtVBR, UBR and ABR traffic For the proposed MAC scheme, we present Grant Field format, Minislot format, and bandwidth allocation algorithm From the simulation result, we have confirmed that our proposed scheme can reduce the average cell delay in comparison to that of conventional MAC schemes.

  • It is very important for the sensor network to save battery capacity. Switching active mode to sleep mode is used for S-MAC protocol and expiring timer before end of the active part is used for T-MAC in order to extend battery life span. We proposed IS-MAC (Improved Sensor MAC) which gives more energy efficiency than S-MAC and T-MAC To improve energy efficiency in sensor network, we used the threshold value in buffer to transmit data packet and proposed the method to reduce the number of control packets which cause extra battery consumption. Based on the analytical results, we found that the proposed IS-MAC protocol shows better performance than conventional MAC protocols.

  • DNP 3.0 is the most widely used data communication protocol for electric power control systems. KEPCO(Korea Electric Power Corporation) also uses DNP 3.0 as a data transmission protocol for the DAS(Distribution Automation System) and the SCADA system of the transmmission system. But DNP 3.0 is one of the oldest industrial standard having many restrictions and there are many considerations for optimal design of DNP 3.0 network for the Distribution Automation System.

  • This paper deals with the network schemes of the home appliance using the CEBus. Protocol schemes which are based on the OSI 7-layer and CAL application were described. And also it was adapted for microwave oven as case study. As a result, it is shown that it operates well under CEBus protocol with only power line media.

  • Route establishment in Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) is the key mechanism to a successful connection between a pair of source and destination nodes. An efficient routing protocol constructs routing path with minimal time, less routing overhead and capable of utilizing all possible link connectivity. In general, most on-demand MANET routing protocols operates over symmetrical and bidirectional routing path, which is infeasible due to the inherent heterogeneous properties of wireless devices. Simulation results show that the presence of unidirectional links on a network severely affect the performance of a routing protocol. In this paper, a robust protocol independent scheme is proposed, which enable immediate rediscovery of alternative route for a path blocked by a unidirectional link. The proposed scheme is efficient; route rediscovery is locally computed, which results in significant minimization of multiple route packets flooding. Nodes may exploit route information of immediate neighbors using the local reply broadcast technique, which then redirect the control packets around the unidirectional links, therefore maintaining the end-to-end bidirectional connection. The proposed scheme along with Ad Hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) and AODV-Blacklist routing protocol is investigated over three types of mobility models. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme is extremely reliable under poor network conditions and the route connectivity can be improved by as much as 75%.

  • This paper discusses a tester of functionality and call processing performance, based on the MEGACO/H.248 protocol that both IETF and ITU-T recommend as a media gateway control protocol, of both a media gateway controller and an access gateway which constitute a next generation convergence network. Effective methods, a functional architecture and implementation for such testification are provided. Especially included are not only a virtual emulation function of analog subscriber lines connecting to an access gateway, but also a tester emulated as a counter system of the protocol for the testifying a media gateway controller and an access gateway system.

  • A low-energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH) protocol is a low-power adaptive cluster routing protocol which was proposed by MIT's Chandrakasan for sensor networks. In the LEACH protocol, the selection mode of cluster-head nodes is a random selection of cycles, which may result in uneven distribution of nodal energy and reduce the lifetime of the entire network. Hence, we propose a new selection method to enhance the lifetime of network, in this selection function, the energy consumed between nodes in the clusters and the power consumed by the transfer between the cluster head and the base station are considered at the same time. Meanwhile, the improved FTBA algorithm integrating the curve strategy is proposed to enhance local and global search capabilities. Then we combine the improved BA with LEACH, and use the intelligent algorithm to select the cluster head. Experiment results show that the improved BA has stronger optimization ability than other optimization algorithms, which the method we proposed (FTBA-TC-LEACH) is superior than the LEACH and LEACH with standard BA (SBA-LEACH). The FTBA-TC-LEACH can obviously reduce network energy consumption and enhance the lifetime of wireless sensor networks (WSNs).

  • Mobile Ad-hoc Network(MANET) could provide the reliable monitoring and control of a variety of environments for remote place. Mobility of MANET would require the topology change frequently compared with a static network. To improve the routing protocol in MANET, energy efficient routing protocol would be required as well as considering the mobility would be needed. In this paper, we propose a new method that the CACH(Context-aware Clustering Hierarchy) algorithm, a hybrid and clustering-based protocol that could analyze the link cost from a source node to a destination node. The proposed analysis could help in defining the optimum depth of hierarchy architecture CACH utilize. The proposed CACH could use localized condition to enable adaptation and robustness for dynamic network topology protocol and this provide that our hierarchy to be resilient.

  • Application Routing Load Balancing (ARLB) is a novel load balancing mode that combines QoS routing and load balancing in per application to support QoS far real-time application based on wired network. Zone Routing Protocol (ZRP) is a recent hybrid proactive/reactive routing approach in an attempt to achieve scalability of ad-hoc network. This routing approach has the potential to be efficient in the generation of control traffic than traditional routing schemes. Up to now, without proper load balancing tools, the ZRP can actually guarantee QoS for delay-sensitive applications when congestion occurred in ad-hoc network. In this paper, we propose the ARLB to improve QoS fur delay-sensitive applications based on ZRP in ad-hoc network when congestion occurred and to be forwarding mechanism fur route coupling to support QoS for real-time applications. The critical point is that the routing metric of ARLB is originally designed for wired network environment. Therefore, we study and present an appropriate metric or cost computation routing of ARLB for recently proposed ZRP over ad-hoc network environment.

  • This paper investigates the network throughput of PLC (Power Line Communication) system in the in-building network. The OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) modulation format and adaptive bit loading algorithm is used to minimize the effect of signal loss and noise on transmission performance in the power line channel characterized by frequency selective fading. The network throughput of the PLC system which consists of gateway and CPE(Customer Premise Equipment) PLC modem in the in-building network is measured by network performance measurement tool, iperf and analyzed according to the TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) window size.
