  • Annual average precipitation of Korea is 1,277 mm and around 2/3 of annual precipitation and 74 % of available water resources occurred during monsoon period. In recent years, many agricultural reservoirs have been heightened to increase flood control capacity, reduce flooding damage at downstream areas, and provide sustainable environmental flow during drought period. Thus in this study, the flood control effects of heightening of reservoir banks were simulated with HEC-ResSim and HEC-RAS models. These modes were applied to Bonghak reservoir and it was found that flood control effects were 3~4.5 % with 7 -m heightening. Also, with proper operation (1 m lower of full water level) of reservoir right before the monsoon period, flooding at downstream could be prevented even with design storm of 80 -year recurrence interval. As shown in this study, heightening of agricultural reservoir provides positive effects in flood control and flood damage reduction.

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate visual feedback effects and human performance in the foot mouse control. Background: Generally, computer mouse tasks are controlled by visual feedback. In order to understand the characteristics of a foot mouse control, it is important to investigate the patterns of visual feedback involved in foot-mouse control tasks. Human performance of foot mouse control is also an important factor to understand the foot mouse control. Method: Three types of mouse control were determined to investigate visual feedback effects and human performance in the foot mouse control. Visual feedback effects in the foot mouse control were compared with those of a typical hand mouse. The cursor movement speed and mental workload were measured in the three types of tasks and two types of mouses. Results: Mouse control tasks with an element of homing-in to the target were more quickly performed by the hand mouse than the foot mouse. Mental workload was also higher in the foot mouse than the hand mouse. However, in the steering movement, human performance of the foot mouse control was not lower than that of the hand mouse control. Visual feedback in the foot mouse control was less required than in the hand mouse control. Conclusion: The foot mouse was not efficient in the most mouse control tasks, compared to the hand mouse. However, the foot mouse was efficient in the steering movement, moving a cursor within a path with lateral constraints. Application: The results of this study might help to develop the foot mouse.

  • This study examined whether parental psychological control influences adolescents' depressive feelings through personality features of dependency and self-criticism. Participants were 315 high school students (M=16 years) who completed questionnaires tapping two types of parental psychological control and student personality and depressive symptoms. Both girls and boys perceived equal levels of maternal and paternal separation-anxious psychological control. Boys perceived higher achievement- oriented psychological control of fathers than mothers; girls perceived equal levels of maternal and paternal achievement-oriented control. Structural relations between types of psychological control, personality features, and depressive symptoms were equivalent for both mothers and fathers and for both boys and girls. Results confirmed that separation-anxious and achievement-oriented control have negative effects on adolescents' adjustment through differential pathways; dependency and self-criticism, respectively.

  • In Advanced Vehicle Control System(AVCS), Autonomous Intelligent Cruise Control(AICC) is generally understood to be a system that can be achieved in the near future without the demanding infrastructure components and technoloties. AICC is an automatic vehicle following system with no human engagement in the longitudinal vehicle direction. This paper presents a fuzzy control algorithm to develop the AICC system. The control performance was studied information of vehicles using computer simulations. The most improtant aspects of the work reported here are the adoption of the fuzzy adaptive control law, and the use of filtering concept to reduce the slinky effects that may appear in a formation of vehicles equipped with AICC systems. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the fuzzy adaptive AICC system and its beneficial effects on traffic flow.

  • The implementation of a robust $H_{\infty}$ Control, which is numerically efficient for uncertain nonlinear dynamics, on longitudinal and lateral autopilots is realised for a quarter scale Piper J3-Cub model accepted as an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) under the condition of sensor noise and disturbance effects. The stability and control coefficients of the UAV are evaluated through XFLR5 software, which utilises a vortex lattice method at a predefined flight condition. After that, the longitudinal trim point is computed, and the linearization process is performed at this trim point. The "${\mu}$-Synthesis"-based robust $H_{\infty}$ control algorithm for roll, pitch and yaw displacement autopilots are developed for both longitudinal and lateral linearised nonlinear dynamics. Controller performances, closed-loop frequency responses, nominal and perturbed system responses are obtained under the conditions of disturbance and sensor noise. The simulation results indicate that the proposed control scheme achieves robust performance and guarantees stability under exogenous disturbance and measurement noise effects and model uncertainty.

  • This study examined the effects of parental psychological control, dysfunctional perfectionism, and self-conscious emotions on depression in adolescents. The sample consisted of 471 adolescents (212 boys, 259 girls) attending high schools in Seoul. The results from Structural Equation Modeling indicated that dysfunctional perfectionism and self-conscious emotions mediated the impact of parental psychological control on depression only in the mother-daughter relationship, such that with mothers' greater psychological control, girls experienced higher levels of dysfunctional perfectionism and self-conscious emotions, and reported higher depression scores. Similarly, dysfunctional perfectionism functioned as a mediator in the association between parental psychological control and adolescent depression. This tends to support findings from previous studies emphasizing the importance of same sex parent-adolescent relationships. Dysfunctional perfectionism also had the largest direct effect of all variables analyzed on depression. Parental psychological control did not show statistically significant effects on self-conscious emotions for either boys or girls. These findings suggest that interventions designed to promote adolescents' mental well-being should focus on parenting of the same sex parent as well as adolescent cognitive characteristics.
