  • Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a very common form of cancer worldwide and is often fatal. Although the histopathology of HCC is characterized by metabolic pathophysiology, fibrosis, and cirrhosis, the focus of treatment has been on eliminating HCC. Recently, three-dimensional (3D) multicellular hepatic spheroid (MCHS) models have provided a) new therapeutic strategies for progressive fibrotic liver diseases, such as antifibrotic and anti-inflammatory drugs, b) molecular targets, and c) treatments for metabolic dysregulation. MCHS models provide a potent anti-cancer tool because they can mimic a) tumor complexity and heterogeneity, b) the 3D context of tumor cells, and c) the gradients of physiological parameters that are characteristic of tumors in vivo. However, the information provided by an multicelluar tumor spheroid (MCTS) model must always be considered in the context of tumors in vivo. This mini-review summarizes what is known about tumor HCC heterogeneity and complexity and the advances provided by MCHS models for innovations in drug development to combat liver diseases.

  • This study investigates responses to privacy concerns by analyzing the psychological and behavioral characteristics related to the disposition toward invoices of courier service users. To this end, we develop a theoretical framework by combining stimulus response theory, communication privacy management theory, the theory of reasoned action, and the theory of planned behavior. Based on the theoretical framework, we analyze the relationships between social influence, privacy propensity, privacy control, privacy risk, privacy concern, invoice disposition intention, and invoice disposition behavior in the context of courier services. To test our hypotheses, we survey courier service users in the U.S. and Korea. Using a structural equation model, we test the relationships among these various factors for the courier service users of the two countries. Results have distinct implications for the psychological and behavioral characteristics concerning the disposal of courier invoices and enable understanding of the characteristics of courier service customers of the two countries.

  • With the progress of information technology and the rapid development of the gamification marketing, corporate marketing through virtual CSR co-create as customer acquisition, customer retention strategy has become the hot topic, but the reality results show that the effect of virtual CSR co-create fails to reach an enterprise's marketing purposes. Based on the success model of D&M information system, from the perspective of customer engagement, this study analyzes how enterprises achieve customer engagement and bring gameful experience to customers through gamification marketing in the context of virtual CSR co-create. The empirical results show that the quality of game information -- social interaction and sense of achievement in the context of virtual CSR co-create have a significant positive impact on consumers' gameful experience, and customer engagement plays a partial mediating role between social interaction, sense of achievement and consumers' gameful experience.

  • This study investigates the conditions under which the compensation effect occurs in advertising, focusing on the influence of warmth messages on consumer perceptions and responses. By comparing single-ad and comparative ad exposure contexts, the research reveals how warmth messages affect perceived brand competence and the intention to like ads. High warmth messages, when viewed in a comparative ad setting, lead to lower perceived brand competence compared to a single-ad setting, emphasizing the need for strategic message placement in competitive environments. The study further explores how consumers' construal levels-whether considering near-future or distant-future purchase decisions-moderate these effects. The negative impact of high warmth messages on perceived competence is amplified in a comparative context at low construal levels, while high construal levels mitigate this negative impact. These results provide both theoretical and practical insights, highlighting the importance of ad context and construal level in advertising strategies.

  • In order to use analog more systematically in science class, an instructional model was designed on the basis of analogical reasoning processes (encoding, inference, mapping, application, and response) in the Sternberg's component process theory. The model has five phases (introducing target context, cue retrieval of analog context, mapping similarity and drawing target concept, application, and elaboration), and the instructional effects of using the model upon students' comprehension of science concepts and motivation level of learning were investigated. The treatment and control groups (1 class each) were selected from 8th-grade classes and taught about chemical change and chemical reaction for the period of 10 class hours. The treatment group was taught with the materials based on the model, while the control group was taught in traditional instruction without using analog. Before the instructions, modified versions of the Patterns of Adaptive Learning Survey and the Group Assessment of Logical Thinking were administered, and their scores were used as covariates for students' conceptions and motivational level of learning, respectively. Analogical reasoning ability test was also administered, and its score was used as a blocking variable. After the instructions, students' conceptions were measured by a researcher-made science conception test, and their motivational level of learning was measured by a modified version of the Instructional Materials Motivation Scale. The results indicated that the adjusted mean score of the conception test for the treatment group was significantly higher than that of the control group at .01 level of significance. No significant interaction between the instruction and the analogical reasoning ability was found. Although the motivational level of learning for the treatment group was higher than that for the control group, the difference was found to be statistically insignificant. Educational implications are discussed.

  • Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) are highly dynamic and unstable due to the heterogeneous nature of the communications, intermittent links, high mobility and constant changes in network topology. Currently, some of the most important challenges of VANETs are the scalability problem, congestion, unnecessary duplication of data, low delivery rate, communication delay and temporary fragmentation. Many recent studies have focused on a hybrid mechanism to disseminate information implementing the store and forward technique in sparse vehicular networks, as well as clustering techniques to avoid the scalability problem in dense vehicular networks. However, the selection of intermediate nodes in the store and forward technique, the stability of the clusters and the unnecessary duplication of data remain as central challenges. Therefore, we propose an adaptable destination-based dissemination algorithm (DBDA) using the publish/subscribe model. DBDA considers the destination of the vehicles as an important parameter to form the clusters and select the intermediate nodes, contrary to other proposed solutions. Additionally, DBDA implements a publish/subscribe model. This model provides a context-aware service to select the intermediate nodes according to the importance of the message, destination, current location and speed of the vehicles; as a result, it avoids delay, congestion, unnecessary duplications and low delivery rate.
