  • The aim of the present study was to compare the contrast sensitivity of soft contact lens wearers, spectacle wearers or emmetropia. Seventy myopic eyes and thirty emmetropic eyes aged 19 to 26 years were collected. The myopic group included 48 eyes corrected with spectacle lenses and 22 eyes of them corrected with contact lenses, too: all had corrected vision acuity of 20/20 or better. Spatial contrast sensitivity was measured using the OPTEC 6500 contrast sensitivity view-in tester included the EyeView Functional Vision Analysis software at photopic or mesoopic condition. There was no significant difference in contrast sensitivity between spectacle lenses and emmetropes. Myopes corrected with soft contact lenses showed statistical sensitivity losses at 1.5, 12 cycle/degree spatial frequencies. In conclusion, our findings suggest that loss of contrast sensitivity in soft contact lens wearers might be interpreted as evidence for corneal disruption before corneal pathological events occur in contact lens wearers. Contrast sensitivity testing appears to be a useful method for evaluating soft contact lenses.

  • Purpose: In the present study, the effect of circle contact lenses wear on contrast sensitivity and glare sensitivity in a refractive surgery group was investigated. Methods: The contrast sensitivity and glare sensitivity were evaluated using by CGT-1000 for a non-refractive surgery group as control group(40 eyes) and a refractive surgery group(30 eyes) applied plano circle contact lenses, and pupil size was also measured. The correlation between contrast/glare sensitivity and the pupil size was analyzed. Results: In the refractive surgery group, contrast sensitivity in the range of high spatial frequency decreased with wearing circle contact lenses, and amount of decrease for the refractive surgery group was larger than for the control group. The correlation between pupil size and the change of contrast sensitivity was decreased by wearing circle contact lenses, and the correlation was lower in the refractive surgery group than the control group. Furthermore, the wear of circle contact lenses affected on glare sensitivity. In analyzing the change of glare sensitivity by pupil size, the glare was larger in the refractive surgery group than control group. Circle contact lenses in refractive surgery group were not fitted on the center of cornea. Conclusions: In the present study, it is suggested that the sufficient understanding and consideration about the decrease of contrast sensitivity and the increase of glare by wearing circle contact lenses after the refractive surgery is necessary.

  • To determine the effects of genetic and environmental influences on cell mediated immune (CMI) responses in broiler rabbits, contact sensitivity to 2,4-Dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB) was assessed in three temperate broiler breeds of rabbits, namely Soviet Chinchilla, New Zealand White and Grey Giant. The feasibility of using the contact sensitivity to DNCB as a marker trait in selection for disease resistance was examined. There were highly significant differences between breeds (p<0.01) in initial skin thickness and contact sensitivities to DNCB at 24, 48 and 72 hours. Initial skin thickness was greatest in the Soviet Chinchilla breed (mean 2.2484 mm), and was significantly greater (p<0.01) in males (2.4963 mm) than in females (1.7846 mm) (p<0.01). Highest contact sensitivity to DNCB was in the New Zealand White breed with mean increase in skin thickness of 1.1884, 0.9072 and 0.5879 mm at 24, 48 and 72 hours post challenge respectively. Delayed type hypersensitivity (DTH) reaction to DNCB at 24 hours post challenge had a highly significant association (p<0.01) with the incidence of body mange in rabbits. The results indicated a lowered contact sensitivity to DNCB at 24 hours post challenge was associated significantly (p<0.01) with an increase in incidence and severity of body mange, suggesting its potential value as a marker. The correlation s among contact sensitivities at 24, 48 and 72 hours were positive and highly significant (p<0.01); correlations between initial skin thickness and contact sensitivities were negative and highly significant (p<0.01). Another notable significant correlation was between body weight and delayed type hypersensitivity at 24 hours indicating that an enhanced CMI might be associated with better growth rate and general wellbeing.

  • This study researched how the refraction error and illumination influence to contrast sensitivity when we wear the circle contact lenses. The study population comprised 16 students and adults(5 of Male, 11 of Female). The study population comprised 16 students and adults(5 of Male, 11 of Female), We measured the contrast sensitivity on uncorrected vision, according to color of circle contact and change the illumination of laboratory. The contrast sensitivity by illumination decreased than unaided vision when they wore the color contact lenses and more increased mesopic than photopic. Compared between black and brown lenses, brown was higher the contrast sensitivity than black. Also emmetropia had significantly differences when we compared the contrast sensitivity of subjects who had emmetropia, myopia and myopia astigmatism whether refractive error has or not. Therefore, it is important to provide sufficient understanding and recognition of color contact lenses.

  • In this study, a methodology is developed and confirmed to find the physical contact between the slider and disc due to the defects of disk during head seeking operation using acoustic emission (AE) signal. The head/disk contact was detected during random and standard seeks, whereas no contact was detected during track fellowing. During standard and random seeks, the torsion mode of slider excitation was observed at 680KHz. Therefore, it is thought that AE technique can be used as an alternative method of the glide test by monitoring existence of the torsional mode of the slider during seek operation or can be used to detect the spacing loss during seeking operation. By appropriately choosing the location of the sensor an order of magnitude increase in the sensitivity for RMS AE signal is observed. Therefore we can find take-off velocity clearly with high signal to noise ratio of AE signal.

  • In this paper, the dynamic response of the pantograph system that supplies electrical power to a high-speed rail vehicle were investigated. The analysis of the catenary based on the Finite Element Method (FEM) is executed to develop a pantograph fits well in high-speed focused on the dynamic characteristic analysis of the pantograph system. By simulation of the pantograph-catenary system, the static deflection of the catenary, the stiffness variation in contact lines, the dynamic response of the catenary undergoing constant moving load and the contact force analysis were executed. In order to consider the design variables that effects on the dynamic characteristic of the pantograph system performed the dynamic sensitivity analysis. From the pantograph-catenary analysis, the design parameters of a pantograph could be improved. From the results of the sensitivity analysis, a pantograph with improved parameters is suitable for a high-speed rail vehicle from the design-parameter analysis.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare the visual performance by contrast sensitivity (CS) and disability glare (DG) in low astigmatic eyes corrected with toric soft lenses and other optical corrections. Methods: Twenty university students with myopia (-1.00 to -6.50D Sph. with astigmatism up to 1.50 cyl) were enrolled and corrected by five different methods: 1) soft toric lenses; 2) spherical soft contact lenses; 3) RGP lenses; 4) best spectacle corrected visual acuity; 5) spherical equivalent spectacles. All subjects had corrected vision acuity of 20/20 or better. Contrast sensitivity and disability glare were measured using the OPTEC 6500 contrast sensitivity view-in tester included the EyeView Functional Vision Analysis software at photopic or mesopic conditions with glare. Results: At photopic condition, best corrected spectacle wearers had the highest monocular contrast sensitivity at all spatial frequency followed by soft toric lenses, RGP lenses, spherical equivalent spectacles, and spherical soft contact lenses. However, all of them were in normal contrast sensitivity value at photopic condition. At mesopic condition with glare, toric soft lenses were the highest and followed by RGP lenses, spherical equivalent spectacles, best spectacle corrected visual acuity and spherical soft contact lenses. It was observed that spherical soft contact lens wearers demonstrated lower range than normal contrast sensitivity value at mesopic condition with glare. Conclusion: Toric soft lenses gave better visual performance than spherical soft lenses in low astigmatic eyes. Subjects requiring the use of contact lenses under mesophic conditions could benefit from toric soft lenses.

  • Performing the sensitivity analysis of contact conduction on the basis of the thermal model already established, the study of thermal design is accomplished for the preparation of the future changes of mechanical interface design. A relatively simple thermal model is taken into consideration for the convenience of the analysis. A variety of the spacecraft bus voltages and the contact resistances are tried. As a consequence, when the mechanical interface condition is changed at the same module, the successful thermal design could be achieved if we design the heater to have sufficiently large power with reference to the heritage of contact resistance.

  • Sensitivity analysis scheme is developed in the elasto-plastic finite element method with explicit time integration using direct differentiation method. The direct differentiation is concerned with the time integration, constitutive relation, shell element with reduced integration and the contact scheme. Sensitivity analysis results are mainly examined with the highly nonlinear and quasi-static problem with the complicated contact condition. The result shows stable sensitivity especially in the sheet metal forming analysis.

  • In this paper, sensitivity analysis of the pantograph for the high-speed Train was conducted using finite element analysis method. Dynamic interaction of catenary-pantograph model was simulated by using a commercial finite element analysis software, SAMCEF. Pantograph was assumed to be three degree of freedom mass-spring-damper model and the pre-sag of the contact and messenger wire was implemented due to gravity. The span data of the actual high-speed line and specification of pantograph for high-speed train was applied in the analysis model, respectively. The reliability of the simulation model is verified by comparing the contact force results of simulation and test. Through the simulation, mean contact force and its deviation was evaluated and then sensitivity of the pantograph was analyzed.
