  • Low resistance ohmic contacts to the Si-doped $\textrm{In}_{0.17}\textrm{Ga}_{0.83}\textrm{N}$(~$\times10^{19}\textrm{cm}^{-3}$) were obtained using the W metallization schemes. Specific contact resistance decreased with increasing annealing temperature. The lowest resistance is obtained after a nitrogen ambient annealing at $950^{\circ}C$ for 90 s, which results in a specific contact resistance of $2.75\times10^{-8}\Omega\textrm{cm}^{-3}$. Interfacial reactions and surface are analyzed using x-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The X-ray diffraction results show that the reactions between the W film and the $\textrm{In}_{0.17}\textrm{Ga}_{0.83}\textrm{N}$ produce a $\beta$-$W_2N$ phase at the interface. The SEM result shows that the morphology of the contacts is stable up to a temperature as high as $850^{\circ}C$. Possible mechanisms are proposed to describe the annealing temperature dependence of the specific contact resistance.

  • The Maglev train is operated by levitating from a power of a large number of magnets and moving without direct contact to railway track so that reduces noise and vibration due to mechanical friction. Also, the Maglev passes sharp curves and steep hill without any difficulties. The Maglev has a potential to be an alternative transport system urban areas. For successful commercializing of Maglev, the organization of interface for safety and reliability of third rail system are one of the key considerations. Especially, the components of the third rail system, such as power rail, expansion joints, FRP section insulator, and supporter with epoxy insulator, should be durable, convenient for construction, and easy to maintenance. This paper analyzes the characteristics of the third rail system components and proposes organization of interface for system engineering. The operating tests of KIMM for the proposed third rail system verify the safety. Also, this paper analyzes the life cycle of the system components to improve the system reliability and evaluation.

  • Meta-thinking is a kind of thinking beyond certain scope or border, which sees objects as an expanded definition exceeding its essence. It can be experienced when people come into contact with new things. As for digital media, experience acquired from computer screen makes users' thinking be changed continuously and help their thinking to be expanded. Today, studies on development of digital technology regarding virtual reality (VR) and experience obtained from digital media become a topic of conversation, however, this experience depends on the sense of sight through screen. Actually, transparent experiences in digital media are not the same with those in real world, therefore, this study investigated experience expansion through interaction with real things which are much closer to daily lives than virtual experiences. It can be found in media art which induces positive participation of audiences and shows them a new meaning through delight and amusement experienced in the process of interaction. Visual expression in digital media should be more than spectacular which is only full of excessive images. In addition, interface should not be remained as an expression from technological attempts, instead, it is necessary to find humans aspiration with meta-thinking which accepts things expansively and visualize their experiences.

  • The microstructure, wettability, shear strength and aging effect of Sn-3.5Ag/Cu and Alloy42 lead-frame solder joints were measured for comparison. In the case of Sn-3.5Ag/Cu, $Ag_3Sn and Cu_6Sn_5$ phases in the matrix Sn and $1~2\mu\textrm{m}$ thick $Cu_6Sn_5$ phase at the interface of solder/lead-frame were formed. In the case of Sn-3.5Agl Alloy42, only AgJSn phase of low density in the matrix Sn and $0.5~1.5\mu\textrm{m}$ thick $FeSn_2$, phase at the interface of solder/leadframe were formed. Comparing to Cu, Alloy42 showed wider area of spread and smaller contact angle, thus better wettability. But shear strength and ductility of Alloy 42 solder joints were only 33% and 75% of those of Cu, respectively After aging at $180^{\circ}C$ for 1 week, $\xi-Cu_3Sn$ layer on $\eta-Cu_6Sn_5$ layer was formed on Cu lead-frame, while coarsened circular $Ag_3Sn$ phase in the matrix and thickened $FeSn_2$, at the interface were formed on Alloy42 lead- frame.

  • The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate dentin bonding by two different dentin bonding systems(DBS) using acetone based primer or adhesive [All Bond 2(AB2), One Step(OS)] when they were applied by wet or dry bonding technique. Morphology of resin-dentin interface and hybrid layer thickness(HLT) were investigated using Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope(CLSM) and compared to shear bond strength(SBS). 72 extracted sound human molars were randomly divided into 4 groups of 18 teeth each - Group 1.(AW); AB2 by wet bonding. Group 2(AD); AB2 by dry bonding. Group 3.(OW); OS by wet bonding, Group 4.(OD); OS by dry bonding. In 6 teeth of each group, notch-shaped class V cavities(depth 2mm) were prepared on buccal and lingual surface at the cementoenamel juction(12 cavities per group). To obtain color contrast in CLSM observation, bonding resins of each DBS were mixed with rhodamine B and primer of AB2 was mixed with sodium fluorescein. Prepared teeth of each group were treated with AB2, OS, respectively according to the manufacturer's instructions except for dentin surface moisture treatment after acid etching. In group 1 and 3, after acid etching, excess water was removed with wet tissue(Kimwipes), leaving consistently shiny, visibly hydrated dentin surface. In group 2 and 4, dentin surface was dried for 10 seconds at 1 inch distance. The treated teeth were then packed with composite resin(${\AE}$litefil) and light-cured. 12 microscopic samples($60{\sim}80{\mu}m$ thickness) of each group were obtained after longitudinal section and grinding(Exakt cutting and grinding system). Morphological investigation of resin-dentin interface and HLT measurement using CLSM were done. For measurement of SBS, remaining 12 teeth of each group were flattened occlusally to remove all enamel and grinded to 500 grit SiC(Pedemet Specimen Preparation Equipment). After applying DBS on the exposed dentin surface, composite resin was applied in the shape of cylinder, which has 5mm diameter, 1.5mm thickness, and light cured. SBS was measured using Instron with a crosshead speed of 0.5mm/min. It was concluded as follows, 1. HLT of AW(mean: $2.59{\mu}m$) was thicker than any other group, and followed by AD, OW, OD in descending order(mean; 2.37, 2.28, $1.92{\mu}m$). Only OD had statistically significant differences(p<0.05) to AW and AD. 2. There were intimate contact of resin and dentin at the interface in wet bonding groups, but gaps or irregular interfaces were observed in dry bonding groups. 3. The length, diameter, density of resin tags were various even in the same group without significant differences between groups and lots of adhesive lateral branches were observed. 4. There were no statistically significant difference of SBS between AB2 and OS, but SBS of wet bonding groups were significantly higher(p<0.05) than dry bonding groups. 5. There were no consistent relationships between HLT and SBS.

  • Recently, increasing demand on not only lighter but also extremely mobile battery make micro fuel cell device very attractive alternative. By reducing the size of fuel cell, surface tension becomes dominant factor with minor gravitational effect. Therefore, it is very difficult to detach the $CO_2$ bubble generating on a cathode side in ${\mu}DMFC$ (micro direct methanol fuel cell). The degassing of a $CO_2$ bubble has drawn quite attention especially for ${\mu}DMFC$ due to its considerable effect on overall machine performance. Our attention has been paid to the dynamic behavior of immiscible bubble attached to the one side of the wall on 2D rectangular channel subject to external shear flow. We use Level Contour Reconstruction Method (LCRM) which is simplified version of front tracking method to track the bubble interface motion. Effects of Reynolds number, Weber number, advancing/receding contact angle and property ratio on bubble detachment characteristic has been numerically identified.

  • Chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) is a manufacturing process that uses controlled wear to planarize dielectric and metallic layers on silicon wafers. CMP experiments revealed that a sub-ambient film pressure developed at the wafer/pad interface. Additionally, dishing occurs in CMP processes when the copper-in-trench lines are removed at a rate higher than the barrier layer. In order to study dishing across a stationary wafer during polishing, dishing maps were created. Since dishing is a function of the total contact pressure resulting from the applied load and the fluid pressure, the hydrodynamic pressure model was refined and used in an existing model to study copper dishing. Density maps, highlighting varying levels of dishing across the wafer face at different radial positions, were developed. This work will present the results.

  • In this paper, we investigated the effects of short-term oxygen plasma treatment of semiconducting silicone layer to improve interfacial performances in joints prepared with a insulating silicone materials. Surface characterizations were assessed using contact angle measurement and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and then adhesion level and electrical performance were evaluated through T-peel tests and electrical breakdown voltage tests of treated semi-conductive and insulating joints. Plasma exposure mainly increased the polar component of surface energy from $0.21\;dyne/cm^2$ to $47\;dyne/cm^2$ with increasing plasma treatment time and then leveled off. Based on XPS analysis, the surface modification can be mainly ascribed to the creation of chemically active functional groups such as C-O, C=O and COH on semi-conductive silicone surface. This oxidized rubber layer is inorganic silica-like structure of Si bound with three to four oxygen atoms ($SiO_x,\;x=3{\sim}4$). The oxygen plasma treatment produces an increase in joint strength that is maximum for 10 min treatment. However, due to brittle property of this oxidized layer, the highly oxidized layer from too much extended treatment could be act as a weak point, decreasing the adhesion strength. In addition, electrical breakdown level of joints with adequate plasma treatment was increased by about $10\;\%$ with model samples of joints prepared with a semi-conducting/ insulating silicone polymer after applied to interface.

  • One of the most challenging task in closing anterior diastema is avoiding "black triangle" between the teeth. This paper reports a case that the closure of diastema in anterior teeth could be successfully accomplished using direct adhesive restorations and gingival recontouring. The traditional technique using Mylar strip was modified to increase the emergence profile with natural contours at the gingival-tooth interface. Mylar strip was extended out of the sulcus by approximately 1 mm high from the gingival margin, and a small cotton pellet was used to provide the emergence contour. This modified approach is acceptable for the clinical situation.

  • Graphene have showed promising performance as electrodes of organic devices such as organic transistors, light-emitting diodes, and photovoltaic solar cells. In particular, among various organic materials of graphene-based organic devices, pentacene has been regarded as one of the promising organic material because of its high mobility, chemical stability. In the bottom-contact device configuration generally used as graphene based pentacene devices, the morphology of the organic semiconductors at the interface between a channel and electrode is crucial to efficient charge transport from the electrode to the channel. For the high quality morphology, understanding of initial stages of pentacene growth is essential. In this study, we investigate self-assembly of pentacene molecules on graphene formed on a 6H-SiC (0001) substrate by scanning tunneling microscopy. At sub-monolayer coverage, adsorption of pentacene molecules on epitaxial graphene is affected by $6{\times}6$ pattern originates from the underlying buffer layer. And the orientation of pentacene in the ordered structure is aligned with the zigzag direction of the edge structure of single layer graphene. As coverage increased, intermolecular interactions become stronger than molecule-substrate interaction. As a result, herringbone structures the consequence of higher intermolecular interaction are observed.
