Two methods, a Ceriodaphnia algal uptake suppression test (CAUST) and a new toxicity test based on temperature control (TTBTC) which are based on feeding behaviour and temperature control, respectively, were developed and compared for the adoption as the better methodology for short-term toxicity screening. As previously published by Lee et aI., (1997), the CAUST method is based on the feeding behaviour of C. dubia and requires as little as 1 hour of contact time between C. dubia neonates and toxicant. However, even though CAUST requires only 1 hour of contact time, this method still take many hours for the preparation and measurement. Before the test starts, neonate digestive tracts were cleared by feeding yeast to the daphnids, Neonates were then exposed to toxicant, followed by addition of Scenedesmus subspiatus into the bioassay vessels. Daphnids were examined under the bright-field microscope with the presence of algae (indicated by a green colored digestive tract) or the absence of algae. Uptake indicated no toxic effect, whereas, absence of uptake indicated toxic inhibition. Unlike CAUST, the newly developed method (TTBTC) is based on just temperature control for the toxicity test of C. dubia. Initially, neonates are exposed to toxicants while the temperature of water bath containing media increased to $35.5^{\circ}C$. After 1.25 hour of contact time, the number of the daphnids, either live (no toxic effect) or dead (toxic effect), is counted without the aid of any instrument. In both methods, median effective concentrations ($EC_{50}$ values) were computed based on the results over a range of dosed toxicant concentrations. It showed that TTBTC was as sensitive as the standard 48-hour acute bioassay and CAUST. TTBTC and CAUST were much more sensitive than the I-hour I.Q. test and 30-minute Microtox. This study indicates that TTBTC is an easier and more rapid toxicity test than the standard 48-hour acute bioassay and even CAUST.
Waste water-soluble cutting oil was treated with WI type #1 and WI type #2. The properties of the original water-soluble cutting oil were pH=l0.4, viscosity=1.4cP, CODcr=44,750 ppm, and TOC=10,569 ppm. However, the properties of the oil used for more than 3 months were changed to pH=7.82, viscosity=2.1cP, CODcr=151,000 ppm, and TOC=74,556 ppm. It might be attributed to the fact that molecular chains were cut due to thermal oxidation and impurities such as metal chips were incorporated in to the oil during the operation processes. To prevent the putrefaction of oil, the sterilization effect of ozone and UV on the microorganism in the oil was investigated. Ozone treatment showed that 99.99% of the microorganism was annihilated with 30 minutes contact time and 60 minutes were necessary for the same effect when UV was used. Ozone treatment could cut molecular chains of the oil due to strong sterilization power, which was evidenced by the increase of TOC from 25,132 ppm at instantaneous contact to 28,888 ppm at 30 minutes contact time. However, UV treatment didn't show severe changes in TOC values and thus, seemed to cause of severe cut of molecular chains. When the activated carbon was used to treat the waste water-soluble cutting oil, TOC decreased to 25,417 ppm with 0.lg carbon and to 15,946 ppm with 5.0g carbon. This results indicated that the waste oil of small molecular chains could be eliminated by adsorption. From the results, it could be concluded that these treatment techniques could be proposed to remove the waste oil of small molecular chains resulting in the degradation of the oil properties. In addition, these experimental results could be used for the correlation with future works such as investigation of the molecular distribution according to the sizes, lengths, and molecular weight of the chains.

In this study, the effect of properties of gas diffusion layer (GDL) on the performance of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) was investigated using the numerical simulation. The multi-phase mixture ($M^2$) model was used to calculate liquid water saturation and oxygen concentration in GDL. GDL properties, which were contact angle, porosity, gas permeability and thickness, were changed to investigate the effect of GDL properties on the performance of PEMFC. The results demonstrated that performance of PEMFC was increased with increasing contact angle and porosity of GDL, but decreased with increasing thickness of GDL. The liquid water saturation was decreased but oxygen concentration was increased at the GDL-catalyst layer interface, because the mass transfer resistance decreased as the porosity and contact angle increased. On the other hands, as the thickness of GDL increased, pathway for liquid water and oxygen gas became longer, and then mass transfer resistance increased. For this reason, performance of PEMFC decreased with increasing thickness of GDL.

We investigated the effect of capacitively coupled Ar plasma treatment on contact resistance ($R_c$) and channel sheet resistance ($R_{sh}$) of graphene field effect transistors (FETs), by varying their channel length in the wide range from 200 nm to $50{\mu}m$ which formed the transfer length method (TLM) patterns. When the Ar plasma treatment was performed on the long channel ($10{\sim}50{\mu}m$) graphene FETs for 20 s, $R_c$ decreased from 2.4 to $1.15k{\Omega}{\cdot}{\mu}m$. It is understood that this improvement in $R_c$ is attributed to the formation of $sp^3$ bonds and dangling bonds by the plasma. However, when the channel length of the FETs decreased down to 200 nm, the drain current ($I_d$) decreased upon the plasma treatment because of the significant increase of channel $R_{sh}$ which was attributed to the atomic structural disorder induced by the plasma across the transfer length at the edge of the channel region. This study suggests a practical guideline to reduce $R_c$ using various plasma treatments for the $R_c$ sensitive graphene and other 2D material devices, where $R_c$ is traded off with $R_{sh}$.
Since COVID-19 (Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2, SARS-Cov-2) was first discovered at the end of 2019, it has spread rapidly around the world. This study introduces an agent-based simulation model representing COVID-19 spread in South Korea to investigate the effect of detect level (contact tracing) on the virus spread. To develop the model, related data are aggregated and probability distributions are inferred based on the data. The entire process of infection, quarantine, recovery, and death is schematically described and the interaction of people is modeled based on the traffic data. A composite logistic functions are utilized to represent the compliance of people to the government move control such as social distancing. To demonstrate to effect of detect level on the virus spread, detect level is changed from 0% to 100%. The results indicate active contact tracing inhibits the virus spread and the inhibitory effect increases geometrically as the detect level increases.

Purpose: In the present study, the effect of circle contact lenses wear on contrast sensitivity and glare sensitivity in a refractive surgery group was investigated. Methods: The contrast sensitivity and glare sensitivity were evaluated using by CGT-1000 for a non-refractive surgery group as control group(40 eyes) and a refractive surgery group(30 eyes) applied plano circle contact lenses, and pupil size was also measured. The correlation between contrast/glare sensitivity and the pupil size was analyzed. Results: In the refractive surgery group, contrast sensitivity in the range of high spatial frequency decreased with wearing circle contact lenses, and amount of decrease for the refractive surgery group was larger than for the control group. The correlation between pupil size and the change of contrast sensitivity was decreased by wearing circle contact lenses, and the correlation was lower in the refractive surgery group than the control group. Furthermore, the wear of circle contact lenses affected on glare sensitivity. In analyzing the change of glare sensitivity by pupil size, the glare was larger in the refractive surgery group than control group. Circle contact lenses in refractive surgery group were not fitted on the center of cornea. Conclusions: In the present study, it is suggested that the sufficient understanding and consideration about the decrease of contrast sensitivity and the increase of glare by wearing circle contact lenses after the refractive surgery is necessary.

This study researched the reasons for changing polarity in accordance with junction properties in an interface of semiconductors. The contact properties of semiconductors are related to the effect of the semiconductor's device. Therefore, it is an important factor for understanding the junction characteristics in the semiconductor to increase the efficiency of devices. For generation of various junction properties, carbon-doped silicon oxide (SiOC) was deposited with various argon (Ar) gas flow rates, and the characteristics of the SiOC was varied based on the polarity in accordance with the Ar gas flows. Tin-doped zinc oxide (ZTO) as the conductor was deposited on the SiOC as an insulator to research the conductivity. The properties of the SiOC were determined from the formation of a depletion layer by the ionization reaction with various Ar gas flow rates due to the plasma energy. Schottky contact was good in the condition of the depletion layer, with a high potential barrier between the silicon (Si) wafer and the SiOC. The rate of ionization reactions increased when increasing the Ar gas flow rate, and then the potential barrier of the depletion layer was also increased owing to deficient ions from electron-hole recombination at the junction. The dielectric properties of the depletion layer changed to the properties of an insulator, which is favorable for Schottky contact. When the ZTO was deposited on the SiOC with Schottky contact, the stability of the ZTO was improved by the ionic recombination at the interface between the SiOC and the ZTO. The conductivity of ZTO/SiOC was also increased on SiOC film with ideal Schottky contact, in spite of the decreasing charge carriers. It increases the demand on the Schottky contact to improve the thin semiconductor device, and this study confirmed a high-performance device owing to Schottky contact in a low current system. Finally, the amount of current increased in the device owing to ideal Schottky contact.
Purpose - This study aims to investigate a solution to reduce the negative reactions arising from the performance of duties or the job distress of workers in the service industry, because human resource statistics regarding workers in the service sector have been unreported, while concerns regarding exposure to emotional exertion and poor working conditions have been continuously increasing. Research design, data, and methodology - This study specifically focused on workers in highway service areas. It differs from previous studies because it involves the perspective of the person-organization fit and regards workers' cognition of leaders through the psychological distance toward the leader and the contact frequency between workers and leaders within the framework of the leader-individual fit. Moreover, this study highlights the role of the self-leadership of workers as an important factor that becomes manifested in the individual-level fit to the organization. Hence, this study investigates whether the positive role of the above factors, in turn, could reduce job distress. Workers from highway service areas in Gyeonggi-do province provided data; 141 valid questionnaires are collected. SPSS 19.0 and AMOS 19.0 were used to test the reliability and validity of constructs. Simple regression, multiple regression, and 3 step mediation tests were used to test the hypotheses after the correlation tests. Results - Results indicated that leader-member contact frequency and psychological distance have negative effects on job distress but positive effects on self-leadership. A mediation test revealed that self-leadership, in the relationships between contact frequency and job distress and between psychological distance and job distress, resulted in partial mediation and full mediation, respectively. Conclusions - The result can be understood through two different possible explanations. First, service area workers generally possess a positive perspective toward their leaders. This can be interpreted to mean that increased contact frequency and psychological distance would be considered as supports from the leader, rather than intrusive controls or management schemes. Therefore, the management in highway service areas should invest efforts in increasing contact frequency as well as maximizing psychological similarities by adopting the viewpoints of workers in terms of moral and ethical management, to reduce the workers' job distress. The results relating to self-leadership also indicate that increased contact frequency must be accompanied by intentions for the effective promotion of workers' self-leadership. It also signifies the necessity of a strategic approach by leaders to induce workers to perceive "in-group"ness as suggested both by the similarity-attraction theory and by the social identity theory. In addition, the results of the mediation test of self-leadership indicate that because workers' self-leadership activates upon increased contact frequency by the leader, it should not be a means of control and should not be utilized only from the perspective of management. It is also suggested that strategies such as transfer of authority could have a positive effect in promoting the expansion of self-influence from workers.

Because of bone resorption, wear of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene(UHMWPE) in total knee arthroplasty has been recognized as a major factor in long-term failure of knee implant. The surface damage and the following harmful wear debris of UHMWPE is largely related to contact stress. Most of the previous studies focused on the contact condition only at the articulating surface of UHMWPE. Recently, contact stress at the metal-backing interface has been implicated as one of major factors in UHMWPE wear. Therefore, the purpose of the is study is to investigate the effect of the contact stress for different thickness, conformity friction coefficient, and flexion degree of the UHMWPE component in total knee system, considering the contact conditions at both interfaces. In this study, a two-dimensional non-linear plane strain finite element model was developed. The results showed that the maximum value of von-Mises stress occurred below the articulating surface and the contact stress was lower for the more conforming models. All-polyethylene component showed lower stress distribution than the metal-backed component. With increased friction coefficient on the tibiofemoral contact surface, the maximum shear stress increased about twofold.
Purpose - Most studies related to emotional labor have been conducted in the low-contact service industry rather than the high-contact service industry. Since the subjects of this study were golf service assistants, working in an industry in which the interaction and contact between customers and employees are considerable and the degree of customization is high, this study is significant. Thus, we would like to focus on the relationship between the humor style of golf service assistants and emotional labor. Humor style was divided into two styles-adaptive humor and maladaptive humor. Emotional labor was divided into two dimensions-surface acting and deep acting. In addition, we identify the relationship between emotional labor, job satisfaction, and turnover intention. Research design, data, & methodology - This study focuses on the humor styles in the golf service industry, among golf service assistants, on their emotion labor, and verifies the relationship between emotion labor and work satisfaction or job turnover intention. Based on the outcome, a total of four hypotheses were set up. To verify the hypotheses, surveys were conducted on the golf service assistants working in two golf fields in the region of Busan as well as its neighboring area. A total of 250 copies of the questionnaire were distributed. Subsequently, a total of 227 valid questionnaire copies, after excluding improper responses, were used in the analysis. After verifying the reliability and feasibility of variances, Amos 18.0 was used to implement the structure method so as to verify the study hypotheses. As a result of this analysis, the suitability of the entire model was considerably appropriate to the standard value, and the level is adequate to accommodate the study model completely. Results - First, it was found that the adaptive humor of golf service assistants had a positive effect on deep acting and maladaptive humor had a positive effect on surface acting. Second, It was found that employees' satisfaction with their job was reduced through surface acting, and those employees who experienced positive emotional labor in the form of deep acting were more satisfied with their job. Third, surface acting among employees increased turnover intention, but deep acting reduced it. Finally, the relationship between job satisfaction and the turnover intention of golf service assistants in the golf service industry was examined. Conclusions - First, the adaptive humor of the golf assistants in the golf service industry had a positive effect on their expression behavior. Second, deep acting increased their job satisfaction while their surface acting had a noticeably negative effect on their job satisfaction. Third, the surface acting of the emotion labor dimensions that the golf service assistants experience increases their turnover intention while their deep acting decreases their turnover intention. Finally, when analyzing the relationship between job satisfaction and turnover intention of the golf service assistants, it was found that the turnover intention decreased when their job satisfaction is increased.
