  • BIPV system that can alternate building envelope by making materials of PV module should be considered in initial design step for applying PV system efficiently in office building. Mean while, area of the building skin also increases as the number of floors increases, but the valid area that can apply BIPV system in effect decreases relatively. Despite of this weak point, installing BIPV system is still being evaluated as the only measure left that can reduce electronic energy consumption in the building. Therefore, the impact on building energy consumption according to the increase of the number of floors when BIPV system is applied in the building was analyzed. And it will be used as basic information for application of BIPV in office building. Conomic about application of BIPV is interpreted to be secured within the 10 story high. Forover the 11 floors, the methods of increasing the contribution ratio produced by BIPV system through the optimization of install angle and increase in install area of south, high efficiency should be considered. The ways to reduce basic load by integrated design with another renewable energy besides BIPV should be found. Later, the study on the total building energy comsumption with PV generation according to the various type of the basic load and ratio of the width and depth will be performed based on this study.

  • The basic real-time scheduling algorithms based on RM or EDF approaches assume that the tasks are preemptive, but the tasks may contain nonpreemptive sections in many cases. Also the existing scheduling algorithm for reducing the power consumption of the processor is based on the task utilizations and determines the processor speed $S_H$ or $S_L$ according to the existence of the blocking intervals. In this algorithm, the $S_H$ interval that operates in high speed is the interval during which the priority inversion by blocking occurs, and the length of this interval is set to the task deadline that includes the blocking intervals. In this paper, we propose an improved algorithm that can reduce the power consumption ratio by shortening the length of the $S_H$ interval. The simulation shows that the power consumption ratio of the proposed algorithm is reduced as much as 13% compared to the existing one.

  • According to the recent report, the lighting energy consumption of commercial buildings reaches to $30%\sim40%$ of the total energy consumption. It is more than that of cooling & heating energy consumption and it is the major target of energy-saving policy. It is obvious that they are interested in natural lighting device such as Light-shelf for the purpose of raising the lighting energy-saving efficiency. In most of highly developed countries, a thorough study on Light-shelf makes it possible to propose a practical plan while at home there leaves much to be desired to study a guiding principle of optimum plan in spite of its efficiency based on experiments using scale4 model and analysis of simulation. Aiming at making an optimum plan of Light-shelf suitable for the domestic situation, this study is worked by experiments using light-shelf and analysis of variables using illumination program. The experiments is to analyse the efficiency of Light-shelf on condition of the sky and the analysis is to make the simulation using illumination program. This study is composed of 1) the analysis of light with some variables such as presence of light-shelf and degree of angle using 1/2 scaled model 2) making the simulation using Lightscape, illumination program, In brief, concerning presence of light-shelf, it causes little difference in its efficiency in the overcast sky, whereas it decreases an illuminance of window side and provides inner side with the light, which decreases the ratio of the maximum to the minimum inner illuminance and makes the inner of illuminance to range evenly in the clear sky. On degree of angle, as the daylight increases in proportion of degree of angle, the ratio of the maximum to the minimum inner illuminance decreases, which makes it possible to increase the proportion of inner daylight.

  • After the oil crisis in 1970s, many countries have tried to reduce oil dependency. Especially, in Korea, rapid declining oil consumption has speedily brought to electrification and a surge in electricity demand. This paper attempts to estimate the relationship between declining oil use and electrification in Korea using OECD panel data covering from 1985 to 2011. To this end, random effect model and fixed effect model are employed. The increase in the ratio of energy oil to total energy consumption by 10%p leads to reduce the electricity demand by about 15%. This result can be useful information to cope with the recent crisis of electric power. In addition, industrial sector is ranked in forth the ratio of industrial electricity use to total electricity use according to the result of comparative analysis of electricity consumption by use in OECD countries. Therefore, industrial sector should be treated as the main target of demand-side management policies for electricity.

  • To increase the lifetime of ad-hoc networks, a ratio of energy consumption for each node should be kept constant by equally distributing network traffic loads into all of the nodes. In this paper, we propose a modified AODV routing protocol to determine a possible route by considering a remaining battery capacity of a node and the degree of its usage. In addition, to reduce the amount of energy consumption during the path rediscovery process due to the huge amount of the AODV control messages the limited number of possible routes are stored into a routing table of a source node. When some links of a route fail, another possible path can be looked up in the table before the route discovery process should be initiated. We have tested our proposed method with a conventional AODV and a MMBCR method which is one of the power-efficient energy routing protocols based on the three performance metrics, i.e., the total remaining battery capacity, network lifetime and the ratio of data packets received by the destination node to compare their performance.

  • An experimental study was performed for the combustion-field visualization of the burner which burns the liquid hydrocarbon fuel atomized by an ultrasonic oscillator. Configurations of the flame and temperature gradient were caught by both high-speed camera and thermo-graphic camera, and those images were analyzed in detail through a post-processing. In addition, the fuel consumption was measured using the balance during the combustion reaction. As a result, the consumption of atomized fuel increased with the increasing flow-rate of carrier-gas, but any correlation between the air/fuel ratio and carrier-gas flow-rate was not found at the low flow-rate condition. Also, the combustion-field grew and reaction-temperature rose due to the strengthening of combustion reaction with the increasing flow-rate of carrier-gas and power consumption of ultrasonic oscillator.

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Poly-γ-glutamic acid (γ-PGA), a natural polymer found in fermented soybean products, has been reported to play a prebiotic role in the gut. This intervention study investigated the effects of γ-PGA-containing supplement consumption on urinary microbiota in healthy adults because of limited data on such investigation. SUBJECTS/METHODS: A 4-week parallel trial including 39 male and female Korean adults, who were free of chronic diseases and infection, was designed as a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled study. A total of 30 participants completed the study wherein the intervention group (n = 17) received a mixture supplement containing 600 mg/day of γ-PGA and 100 mg/day of vitamin B6, while the control group (n = 13) received a placebo. Paired datasets (baseline and endpoint data) of microbiota profiles, which were constructed via urinary assays of microbe-derived extracellular vesicles, were analyzed and compared between the two groups. RESULTS: Only the intervention group yielded significant results for the Bray-Curtis and Jaccard dissimilarity indices between baseline and endpoint data (P < 0.05). In the phylum-level analysis of microbial composition, the Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes ratio (FB ratio) tended to decrease from baseline in the intervention group; however, it increased in the control group. Differences between the baseline and endpoint FB ratios were significant between the two groups (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: This study's findings suggest that γ-PGA-vitamin B6 supplementation potentially alters the microbial community composition of a host. Further investigation into the biological consequences of commensal microbiota alteration by γ-PGA-containing supplement consumption is warranted.

  • Balanced intake of appropriate nutrients is the key to sustaining and promoting health as well as preventing and treating diseases. It is not always easy, however, to take balanced nutrition and various related factors must be taken into consideration. This report provides a summary of studies that have examined the nutrient intakes of Japanese middle-aged men and the relationship of this intake to drinking, job-related separation from families, and health practices. The alcohol consumption of Japanese middle-aged men has more than tripled in the last forty years. When nutrient intake was examined in relation to alcohol consumption, it was discovered that the maximum acceptable alcohol consumption was approximately 23 grams (about two drinks) of pure alcohol, provided the level of nutrient intake for drinkers was equal to that of non-drinkers. The alcohol energy ratio was approximately 5%. It was also discovered that middle-aged men's eating habits deteriorate when they relocate to new posts without their families and live by themselves. Compared to those living with their families, a higher proportion of those living alone have unfavorable eating habits including skipping breakfast or lunch, having a late lunch, and eating and drinking after dinner until bedtime. When Breslow's seven health practices, nutrient intake, and consumption weight by food group were examined, it was discovered that the group that had many beneficial eating and living habits consumed plenty of legume, pulses, fruit, green yellow vegetables and milk products. Their intake of vitamins and minerals was high and the results of a physical examination proved to be excellent. According to nutrition surveys conducted in Japan, China, the United Kingdom and the United States using a 24-hour recall method with common protocols and strict controls to ensure high levels of accuracy and cross-study validity, the Japanese had the highest cholesterol intake and the lowest dietary fiber intake among the four countries. Also, the alcohol energy ratio of the Japanese exceeded 8%, the highest among the four countries, while their intake of magnesium and iron was the lowest These results indicate that it is necessary to enhance nutritional education for middle-aged men and to reinforce the social environments in which they live and work in order to promote proper diet and nutrition in Japan. • The purpose of this study was to obtain the serum lipid levels according to the lifestyles, and examine the influence of lifestyles on the serum lipid levels among adults who examined the health checkup in an university hospital. The subjects for this study were 4,112 adults who underwent medical examinations at the health center of a university hospital in Daejeon city from Jan 2012 to Dec 2013. The lifestyles and serum lipid levels of study subjects were obtained from self-recorded questionnaires and medical examination charts of the hospital. As a result, the mean values of the serum lipid levels (TC, HDL-C. LDL-C and TG) and atherogenic index (AI) of the study subjects showed a significantly difference according to the lifestyle, such as age, alcohol consumption, smoking, regular exercise, overeating and meat consumption in both sexes. The TC, HDL-C. LDL-C, TG and AI showed a positive correlation with age, AUDIT score, but the HPI score showed a negative correlation in both sexes. In the age-adjusted odds ratio, the risk ratio of an abnormality of TC, HDL-C. LDL-C, TG and AI increased significantly because there was an increase in the group of everyday overeating and meat consumption, smoking group, no exercise group, and low HPI group than their respective counterparts in both sexes. The above results suggested that the serum lipid levels of the subjects was closely related to increasing age, and lifestyles, such as alcohol consumption, smoking, regular exercise, overeating, and meat consumption.

  • Nuts are cholesterol free with high poly-unsaturated fatty acids(PUFA) and have lower intakes of sodium than non-consumers, and thus they can decrease blood pressure. Hypertension is a common primary diagnosis in Korea. Because of extending exposure to 24-hour raised blood pressure and heart rate hypertension is likely to be caused by prolonged short sleep durations. This study examined the relationship between nut consumption and hypertension according to sleep duration among Korean adult. Based on data from the 2010-2016 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(KNHANES), the final analytic sample(n=25,359) was used for current analysis. The dietary intake was assessed through a 24-hour recall method. Associations of nut consumption with sleep duration and hypertension were determined using multiple logistic regression with odds ratio(95% CI). All the analyses were carried out in SAS version 9.4, and the significance level was set at p<0.05. With increasing nut intake, the prevalence of hypertension significantly decreased(p for trend=0.02). After controlling for sleep duration, the nut consumption showed significant association with the prevalence of hypertension when sleep duration was 6 to 6.9 h per day(p for trend=0.03) or 7 to 7.9 h per day(p for trend=0.03). In conclusion, dietary total nut intake was found to be significantly associated with the prevalence of hypertension.
