  • The purpose of this study was to investigate whether differentiation of self mediates the relationship between parenting styles (i.e., care and overprotection) and the level of career decision-making among young adults. We separately measured the mother's and the father's parenting styles and five dimensions of differentiation of self that S. Je (1989) suggested. The data came from 387 young adults who were juniors and seniors at universities in Seoul and its surrounding cities. Using Baron and Kenny's (1986) steps based on regression, we found that the relationships between both caring and overprotective parenting styles and young adults' level of career decision-making were mediated by four dimensions of differentiation of self (i.e., intellectual functioning vs. emotional functioning, family projection process, emotional cutoff, and family regression) except for integration of self. The results were consistent for both the mother and the father. Bootstrapping tests showed that all of the mediation effects were statistically significant. This study contributes to the literature by showing that young adults' level of career decision-making is not simply determined by inputs such as parenting styles but is also mediated by differentiation of self. The results of this study are meaningful in that both the mother's and the father's parenting styles could make a difference in young adults' level of career decision-making through differentiation of self.

  • As E-commerce is getting more popular, consumers faces more decision complexity than ever before because they can get greater alternative choices. Futhermore, consumers are sometimes motivated to expand effort in making a good decision in the case of relatively important and non-routine decison, such as buying a house or car. Thus, a buying decision support function is required to help consumers make decisions that have the greatest effects on consumer's lives. We develop a propotype system of a web-based buying decision support system for a cyber shopping mall. A buying decision of a consumer is a multi-attribute decision problem and is supported using analytic hierarchy process model. The system was implemented using HTML, Java, Java applet, JSP.

  • Consumers' price related response in the clothing purchase decision-making process includes their expectation of price, price perception, attitude toward price and consequent behaviors. The purposes of this research are to systematically organize consumers' price related responses in the clothing purchase decision-making process, and to explain the effect of price on their purchasing. The qualitative research including shopping observation and in-depth interview was conducted. The result identified stages that showed different price related responses in clothing purchase decision-making process, and clarified each stage's characteristics. In the internal search stage, consumers recalled price information from memory and had a specific expectation about the price. This set a direction for the external search. In the external search stage, consumers selected brands or stores by a non-compensatory evaluating with an expectation of the price, and narrowed these down to several determinant alternatives by actively evaluating the products. In case a sufficient amount of price information was not recalled, the consumer established reference price through the external search. Finally, in the purchasing stage, consumers evaluated the determinant alternatives based on their compensatory evaluation. When perception of price was negative, consumers evaluate price combined with the higher criteria of clothing benefits, such as symbolic value and usability. The research is expected to contribute to predicting consumers' responses to price, and to establishing an effective pricing strategy.

  • The purpose of this study is to establish strategy by subdividing consumer market according to the lifestyle which influences the use of medical facilities. The subject of this study were 700 adults who were over 20 years of age and residing in Suwon and its vicinity. To collect data trained staff conducted person-to-person interviews with the assistance of structured questionnaires. The questionnaires cover the areas of life style pattern study. the characteristics of demographic sociology, decision-making process related to the use of medical service. The influencing factors were analyzed and as a result total 18 factors were singled out. Cluster analysis was performed to differentiate similar responses. Each group was named as 'health-unconcern type' 'passive health-concern type' 'regular health-concern type' and 'active health-concern type' according to the characteristics. Each group showed statistically significant difference in the characteristics of demographic sociology. Decision-making process regarding the use of medical service according to lifestyle was analyzed. As a result following items showed significant difference:whether the information was utilized, what was the criteria in selecting medical facilities for serious illness or complicated examination. who was the decision maker in selection medical facilities, and with whom one discussed in selecting medical facilities. The result of this study has its limitation in that it can not be applied directly to market subdivision. However, this will help medical facilities understand customers' lifestyle. which will eventually provide medical facilities with marketing tools in establishing effective PR strategy. In order to apply the lifestyle as a marketing tool of medical facilities, following tasks are to be carried out: the development of the questionnaire which can better analyze consumers' lifestyle related to the use of medical service. the examination of precise characteristics of subdivided market according to lifestyle. and the continuing study on the relationship between lifestyle and the process in selecting medical facilities.

  • As consumer's desire becomes various, agility of mold manufacturing is most important factor for competence of manufacturer. In common works to use commercial CAM system to generate tool path, some decision making process is required to produce optimal result of CAM systems. We propose tool selection procedures to aid the decision making process. The system provides available tool size for machining of design model part of injection mold die by analyzing sliced CAD model of die cavity and core. Also, the tool size information is used to calculate machining time. The system is developed with commercial CAM using API. This module will be used for optimization of tool selection and planning process.

Data were collected from adults over 20 years old who had bought clothes within one year. The questionnaire was carried out from July, 2019 using a professional internet research panel; in addition, 500 sets of useful data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, factor analysis, reliability analysis, chi-squared test, ANOVA and Duncan-test using SPSS 21.0. The findings showed significant differences among the classified consumer groups for consumer demographics, shopping orientation, perceived risk, and purchase after satisfaction. The results imply that consumers show a variety of channel transition behaviors based on demographic variables, shopping orientation, and perceived risk. Understanding and adapting to consumer purchase behaviors will allow company distribution channels to be effectively managed and eventually increase consumer satisfaction as well as company sales volume.
