  • This paper presents the analytic results of outage probability, considering the effect of Rician fading, interference and interference-reduction techniques, when a mobile communication system was constructed by using Stratospheric platform, one of the next generation wireless communication infrastructure which provides high speed multimedia services. The results show that carrier to interference power ratio C/I and fading depth K have an effect on outage probability. That is, outage probability decreases as K value increases for constant C/I value and C/I value increases for constant K value.

  • Multiple output converters (MOCs) are widely used for applications which require various levels of the output voltages due to their benefits in cost, volume, and efficiency. However, most of the MOCs developed so far can regulate only one output tightly and require as many secondary windings in the transformer as the number of the outputs. In this paper, a novel Time Division Multiple Control (TDMC) method to regulate all the outputs in high precision is proposed and applied for the multiple output battery charger based on the phase shift full bridge topology to charge a multiple number of batteries at one time. The proposed converter can charge three different kinds of batteries or same kind of batteries in different state of charges (SOCs) by using constant current/constant voltage (CC/CV) charge mode independently. At the same time it can provide an even degree of tight regulation for each output to satisfy the strict ripple requirement of the battery. The validity and feasibility of the proposed method are verified through the experiments.

  • The $(Sr_{1-x}Ca_x)TiO_3$(SCT) thin films are deposited on Pt-coated electrode (Pt/TiN/$SiO_2$/Si) using RF sputtering method with substitutional contents of Ca. The optimum conditions of RF power and $Ar/O_2$ ratio were 140[W] and 80/20, respectively. Deposition rate of SCT thin film was about 18.75$[{\AA}/min]$. The dielectric constant was increased with increasing the substitutional contents of Ca, while it was decreased if the substitutional contents of Ca exceeded over 15[mol%]. All SCT thin films used in this study show the phenomena of dielectric relaxation with the increase of frequency, and the relaxation frequency is observed above 200[kHz].

  • Experiments have been conducted to investigate mean thermal structure in unstable turbulent thermal convection between two horizontal flat plates. The upper plate was kept at a constant cold temperature and the bottom plate at a constant hot temperature. Both air and water were used as its working fluids. Chamber aspect ratios were 3.80 and 6.17, the mean temperature differences between two plates were 2.6-9.3.deg. C, whose Rayleigh numbers in a range 6.13*10$^{5}$ -1, 07*10$^{8}$ . The heat transfer correlations obtained through the experiments are Nu=0.139R $a^{0.285}$ for air and Nu=0.087 R $a^{0.319}$ for water. Profiles of the mean temperature gradient clearly show the -2 and 1 4/3 power law regions.

  • An intelligent deburring control (IDC) device is used to control the constant force for a deburring tool mounted on the end-effector of a robotic arm. This device maintains a constant contact force between the deburring tool and the workpiece in order to provide a good deburring performance. In this paper, we build a mathematical model in Matlab/Simulink to estimate the force control mechanism of the pneumatic system for the IDC device. The Simulink blocks are built for each separate part and are linked into an integrated simulation system. Such a model also relies on the effects of the flow rate through the valve, air compressibility in the cylinder, and time delay in the pressure valve. The results of the simulation are compared to a simple experiment in which convenient math modeling is performed. These results are then used to optimize the mechanical design and to develop a force control algorithm for the pneumatic cylinder.

  • The photoinduced electron transfer reactions of N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl-p-phenylenediamine (TMPD) in various polar solvents were studied by measuring time-resolved fluorescence. The temperature dependence on the fluorescence decay rate in acetonitrile, methanol, ethanol and buthanol was carried out to obtain the activation energy and Arrehnius factor for the photoinduced electron transfer reaction. It was found that as the dielectric constant of the solvent increases, the activation energy and the reaction rate increase. This implys that the Arrehnius factor is important in controlling the photoinduced electron transfer reaction rate. In water, TMPD exists in three forms (cationic, protonated and neutral forms) due to the high dielectric constant and strong proton donating power of water. The photoinduced electron transfer reaction was found to be very fast (< 50 ps) and also the long liverd component in the fluorescence decay profile attributable to the photoexcited protonated form of TMPD was observed. Probably, the reaction pathway and the reaction coordinate seem to be different depending on the solvents studied here.

  • As energy harvesting technology becomes important in relation to environmental issues, piezoelectric materials that convert mechanical energy into electrical energy are attracting attention. However, PZT, a representative material for piezoelectricity, is becoming difficult to use due to the problem that its components can cause environmental pollution. For this reason, recent research suggests a triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) that generates energy through the combined effect of triboelectricity and electric induction for alternative piezoelectric devices. In TENG, electrical power is determined by the dielectric constant, thickness, and grain generation of the charged material. Therefore, in this study, a Rutile phase TiO2 thin film with high dielectric constant was formed using the spin-coating process and the effect of annealing was investigated. For electrical analysis, a TENG device was fabricated using PTFE as a material with an opposite charge, and electrical output according to film thickness and grain formation was comparatively analyzed.

  • Fusion power shutdown system (FPSS) is a safety system to stop plasma in case of accidents or incidents. The gas injection system for the FPSS presented in this work is designed to research the flow development in a closed system. As the efficiency of the system is a crucial property, plenty of experiments are executed to get optimum parameters. In this system, the flow is driven by the pressure difference between a gas storage tank and a vacuum vessel with a source pressure. The idea is based on a constant volume system without extra source gases to guarantee rapid response and high throughput. Among them, valves and gas species are studied because their properties could influence the velocity of the fluid field. Then source pressures and volumes are emphasized to investigate the volume flow rate of the injection. The source pressure has a considerable effect on the injected volume. From the data, proper parameters are extracted to achieve the best performance of the FPSS. Finally, experimental results are used as a quantitative benchmark for simulations which can add our understanding of the inner gas flow in the pipeline. In generally, there is a good consistency and the obtained correlations will be applied in further study and design for the FPSS.

  • In this paper, a general model is developed to predict the distribution of interfacial shear and normal stresses of FG beam reinforced by porous FGM plates under mechanical loading. The beam is assumed to be isotropic with a constant Poisson's ratio and power law elastic modulus through the beam thickness. Stress distributions, depending on an inhomogeneity constant, were calculated and presented in graphicals forms. It is shown that both the normal and shear stresses at the interface are influenced by the material and geometry parameters of the composite beam, and it is shown that the inhomogeneities play an important role in the distribution of interfacial stresses. The results presented in the paper can serve as a benchmark for future analyses of functionally graded beams strengthened by imperfect varying properties plates. Numerical comparisons between the existing solutions and the present new solution enable a clear appreciation of the effects of various parameters. The results of this study indicated that the imperfect functionally graded panel strengthening systems are effective in enhancing flexural behavior of the strengthened FGM beams. This research is helpful in understanding the mechanical behaviour of the interface and design of hybrid structures.

  • Water disinfection using UV-LED(Light emitting diode) has many advantages, such as smaller footprint and power consumption as well as relatively longer lifespan than those of conventional mercury-UV lamps. Moreover, UV-LED disinfection is considered an environmentally benign process due to its mercury-free nature. In this study, disinfection using an LED module emitting 275nm UV was carried out. 384 UV-LEDs were put into a cylinder tube with a capacity of 1.7 liters. The UV intensity of the UV-LED module was controlled from 1.7 to 8.4 mW/cm2. The disinfection efficiency for the model microorganism solutions(E. coli ) was monitored. As the UV intensity(I) and contact time(t) varied, inactivation of the microorganisms from 2 to 4-log-removals(i.e., 99 to 99.99% of disinfection efficiency) was achieved. Disinfection using UV-LED was followed to 1st order reaction and the reaction rate constant, k was determined. In addition, the relationship between UV intensity(I) and contact time(t) in order to obtain 99.99% of disinfection efficiency was modeled: I1.2·t= 460, which indicates that the product of UV intensity and contact time requiring 4-log-removals is always constant.
