  • Generally, in a steel girder and the concrete slab act as a composite structure, the connectors must have adequate strength and stiffness. If there are no horizontal or vertical separations at the interface, the connectors are described as rigid, and complete interaction can be said to exist under these idealized circumstances. In previous study, it was considered that the strength of stud is affected by the stud diameter, height of stud and compressive strength of concrete. The differences between previous study and this study are variables, which are shank diameter of shear connector, the spacing of shear connector, the size of specimen and the row of shear connector. So this paper, as a study on the strength of shear connector with the spacing of shear connector, size of specimen (block-out size), row of shear connector and shank diameter of shear connector resulted from the push-out specimen are conducted with ABAQUS program. It is to investigate the effects of characteristics of these factors. The load-slip relations obtained from the experiments are compared with those of analyses. From these results, the trends of stress are stress estimated and compared with push-out test.

  • In this study, Composite beam flexural capacity was investigated experimentally using angle as a shear connector. The main experimental parameters are the size and the spacing of the angle and the overall behavior of before and after composite. Also, the composite beam bending performance when it used with hollow PC slab and the general RC slab was compared. When determining that it synthetically, the flexural capacity of the composite beam with angle shear connector estimated 25% to 55% more strength than the nominal strength. Effects of strength parameters of composite beam by angles shear connector are size and spacing of the angle. As expected, the larger and the narrower spacing of the angles, the more strength the composite beam have. In addition, the performance of the composite beam with a hollow slab was well demonstrated by the test.

  • For multi-story structural systems, Korean steel industry has fostered development of a steel-concrete composite beam. Configuration of the composite beam is characterized by steel angle shear connectors welded to a U-shaped cold formed-steel beam. Effects of shear connector orientation and spacing were studied to evaluate current application of the angle shear connector design equation in AC495. For the study, interfacial shear resistance behavior was investigated by conducting 24 push-out tests and attuned using unreinforced push-out specimens. Interfacial shear to horizontal slip response was reported along with corresponding failure patterns. Pure shear connector strength was also evaluated by excluding concrete shear contribution, which was estimated in relation to steel beam-slab interface separation or interfacial crack width.

  • A series of tests was conducted to study the behaviour of steel-composite sandwich beams under low velocity hard impact. Damage characteristic and performance of sandwich beams with different spacing of shear connector were evaluated under impact loading. Thin steel plates were used as top and bottom skins of the sandwich beams and plain concrete was used as the core material. Shear connectors were provided by welding of angle sections on steel plates. The sandwich beams were impacted at their midpoint by a hemi-spherical nose shaped projectile dropped from various heights. Strains on steel plates were measured to study the effects of impact velocity or impact momentum on the performance of sandwich beams. Spacing of shear connectors is found to have significant effects on the impact response of the beams.

  • An analytical study was conducted to investigate the effect of the shape and spacing of modified inclined studs used as shear connector between concrete and steel plate on the cyclic behavior of steel plate concrete (SC) shear wall. 9 different analysis cases were adopted to determine the optimized shape and spacing of stud. As the results, the skeleton curves were obtained from the load-displacement hysteresis curves, and the ultimate and yielding strengths were increased as the spacing of studs decrease. In addition, the strength of inclined studs is shown to be bigger compared to that of conventional studs. The damping ratios increased as the decrease of stiffness ratio. Finally, with decreasing the spacing distance of studs, the cumulative dissipated energy was increased and the seismic performance was improved.

  • This paper presents method of design and analysis of a high-speed serial interface connector with a data rate of 12.5 Gbps. A high-speed serial interface connector is composed of various material and complex structures. It is very difficult to match the impedance of each discontinuous portion of connector. Therefore, this paper proposes the structure of a connector line that be simplified a connector. In the structure of proposed connector line, this research presents a method for extracting R, L, C and G parameters, analyzing the differential mode impedance, and minimizing the impedance discontinuity using time domain transmissometry and time domain reflectometry. This paper applies the proposed methods in the connector line to the high-speed serial interface connector. The proposed high-speed serial interface connector, which consists of forty-four pins, is analyzed signal transmission characteristics by changing the width and spacing of the four pins. According to the analysis result, as the width of the ground pin increases, the impedance decreases slightly. And as the distance between the ground pin and the signal pin increases, the impedance increases. In addition, as the width of the signal pin increases, the impedance decreases. And as the distance between the signal pin and the signal pin increases, the impedance decreases. The impedance characteristic of initial connector presents ranges from 96 to $139{\Omega}$. Impedance characteristic after applying the structure of proposed connector is shown as a value between 92.6 to $107.5{\Omega}$. This value satisfies the design objective $100{\Omega}{\pm}10%$.

  • Existing wood decks brings out negligent accident because fastener can be pulled-out by cyclic load of pedestrians. When deck and joist are connected, it also causes the problems, which are cracking of wood decks and rapid decay by material of fastener. In this study, strength property of deck unit using reinforced plastic connector made by domestic A company was evaluated. Southern yellow pine (Pinus palustris Miller) were used for deck material. Bending strength of deck units were implemented for fastener type and joist spacing (400, 600 mm). In the result, carbon steel screw into reinforced plastic connector was the best in average bending strength(Joist spacing : 400, 600 mm). In the result of bending strength for joist-width (40, 50, 70, 80 mm), the average maximum bending strength was measured when the joist spacing was 40 mm.

  • As buildings are built higher and their service life made longer, face brick walls are also required to be constructed in an easy and systematic manner, and to ensure their satisfying structural performance, inspectingly, against lateral load. Therefore this study aims to investigate the structural performance of face brick walls constructed by a new method using screwed stainless steel connectors and provide fundamental experiment data for field application of this method. The results of this study indicated that the face brick wall tied with screw connectors had better shear capacity against rocking motion than that of the wall constructed with ordinary tie bars when their tie spacing was the same. Based on the good performance of the wall tied with the screw connector, it is also expected that the spiral anchors developed in this study can possibly applied to high-rise by adjusting the spacing of the anchors considering the difference of dimensions.

  • This paper aims to verify the feasibility of rubber rings to mitigate the shear concentration in perfobond connector (PBL) groups. Firstly, modified push-out tests for five specimens with four holes were conducted to investigate the effects of rubber rings on the shear mechanism of PBL groups. The test results showed that by employing rubber rings on partial holes, more shear forces were distributed to the holes without rubber rings. The rubber rings significantly improved the slip ability of the specimens, and the ductility of PBL groups is dependent on the number and thickness of rubber rings. Subsequently, three-dimensional numerical models were established and validated by the experimental results. According to the plastic strain distribution in concrete dowels, the action principle of rubber rings in PBL groups was explained. Furthermore, the parametric study was conducted to investigate the influential factors on shear distributions, including the width of steel plates, the hole spacing, the number of holes, the rubber ring thickness, and the positions of rubber rings. The parametric analysis results showed that the redistribution of shear forces is significantly affected by the rubber rings with the smallest thickness. By properly employing rubber rings in PBL groups, the shear forces of holes are more even. Finally, an analytical model for PBL groups with rubber rings was proposed to predict the shear distribution at the serviceability stage.

  • One of main issues of the FRP-concrete composite member is shear connection between FRP and concrete in order to secure composite behavior of FRP and concrete. To solve this problem, perfobond rib FRP shear connector is introduced for the mechanical shear connection. In this study, experimental study was carried out on the perfobond rib FRP shear connectors in order to develop the effective details of perfobond rib FRP shear connectors. Pull-out test specimens were manufactured with FRP plate with holes embedded in concrete block. Main parameters considered in this study were diameter of holes, ratio of spacing between the centres of holes to the diameter of holes, and thickness of FRP plates. Test results are discussed according to above parameters compared with other empirical expressions for steel perfobond rib connector.
