  • In this paper, we present a message transfer scheme for efficient message passing in the hierarchically structured multiprocessor computer SPAX(Scalable Parallel Architecture computer based on X-bar network). The message transfer scheme provides interface not only with operating system but also with end users. In order to transfer two types of control message and data message efficiently, it supports both of memory-mapped transfer and DMA-based transfer. Dual-port RAMs are used as message buffers, and control and status registers provide efficient programming interface. Interlaced parity scheme is adopted for error control. If any error is detected at receiving node, errored packet is resent by sender according to retry mechanism. In conjunction with retry mechanism, watchdog timers are used to protect infinite waiting and repeated retry. The proposed message transfer scheme can be applied to input/output nodes and communication connection nodes as well as processing nodes in the SPAX.

  • The first thing in remodelling of an apartment is the enlargement of living area, which is usually attained through extending balcony or corridor to the outside of the building. As a reasonable solution to the extension of floor a method of rigid connection in which steel bars are injected into the existing slab and concrete of newly building slab is installed with proper reinforcement is proposed in this research. To verify the structural performance of the method bending tests have been carried out for seven slab specimens.

  • This study fabricated a low-voltage 10 circuit distribution board based on the KEMC (Korea Electrical Manufacturers Cooperative) 2102-610 standard and performed a characteristics assessment of the developed 10 circuit distribution board to secure product stability. The developed 10 circuit distribution board is designed to have the characteristics of insulation materials, as well as resistance to corrosion ultraviolet radiation and mechanical impact. The developed distribution board is fabricated to have an appropriate protection class of enclosure, electric shock prevention and protection circuits, switchgear and its components, internal electrical circuits and connectors, external conduct terminal, insulation characteristics, temperature rise test, heat resistance, etc. The developed 10 circuit distribution board consists of a single phase circuit and 3-phase circuits. It is possible to measure in real time the leakage current generated from the load distribution line by installing a sensor module at the load side of each of the branched switchgears. In addition, it is possible to increase a circuit according to the use and purpose of the load and to also manage and check the load in real time. Temperature rise tests were performed on the developed 10 circuit distribution board at 18 places including the inlet connection, main circuit and distribution circuit bus bars and bus bar supports, etc. The highest temperature of $65.3^{\circ}C$ was measured at the R-Phase of the connection of the MCCB power supply for the branch circuit bus bar and a temperature rise of $61.6^{\circ}C$ was measured at the T-Phase of the load side. When applying thermal stress to an MCCB for 6 hours at $180^{\circ}C$ using a heat resistant experimental device, it was found that the actuator lever was transformed and moved in the tripped state.

  • A parking structure has been on the spotlight to solve the parking problem in downtown area. However, the overall height of parking structure is stipulated less than 8m. Therefore, in this research, the flexural and shear capacity of 'wide composite beam' which can reduce story height and have long span, is evaluated. Based on test result, the rebar in truss did not affect its flexural strength. However, in the case of the specimen without the rebar, the mechanical bond strength decreased due to slip occurrence at 70% of the flexural yield strength. Based on the test of shear-bond behavior, all specimen without shear connector should be reinforced with 2 or more flat bar, because it did not have enough shear bond strength resisted by the mechanical bond mechanism.

  • Various types of reinforcement splicing methods have been developed and implemented in reinforced concrete construction projects for achieving the continuity of reinforcements. Due to the complicated reinforcement arrangements and the difficulties in securing bar spacing, the traditional lap splicing method, which has been widely used in reinforced concrete constructions, often shows low constructability and difficulties in quality control. Also, lap spliced regions are likely to be over-reinforced, which may not be desirable in seismic design. On the other hand, mechanical splicing methods can offer simple and clear arrangements of reinforcement. In order to utilize the couplers for the ribbed-deformed bars, however, additional screw processing at the ends of reinforcing bars is typically required, which often lead to performance degradations of reinforced concrete members due to the lack of workmanship in screw processing or in adjusting the length of reinforcing bars. On the contrary, the use of screw-ribbed reinforcements can easily solve these issues on the mechanical splicing methods, because it does not require the screw process on the bar. In this study, the mechanical coupler suitable for the screw-ribbed reinforcements has been developed, in which any gap between the reinforcements and sleeve device can be removed by grouting high-flow inorganic mortar. This study presents the uniaxial tension tests on the screw-ribbed reinforcement with the mechanical sleeve devices and the cyclic loading tests on RC columns with the developed coupler. The test results show that the mechanical sleeve connection developed in this study has an excellent splicing performance, and that it is applicable to reinforced concrete columns with a proper confinement by hoop reinforcement.

  • Subway tunnel structure has been rapidly developed in many cities for its strong transport capacity. The model-based damage detection of subway tunnel structure is usually difficult due to the complex modeling of soil-structure interaction, the indetermination of boundary and so on. This paper proposes a new data-based method for the damage detection of subway tunnel structure. The root mean square acceleration and cross correlation function are used to derive a statistical pattern recognition algorithm for damage detection. A damage sensitive feature is proposed based on the root mean square deviations of the cross correlation functions. X-bar control charts are utilized to monitor the variation of the damage sensitive features before and after damage. The proposed algorithm is validated by the experiment of a full-scale two-rings subway tunnel lining, and damages are simulated by loosening the connection bolts of the rings. The results verify that root mean square deviation is sensitive to bolt loosening in the tunnel lining and X-bar control charts are feasible to be used in damage detection. The proposed data-based damage detection method is applicable to the online structural health monitoring system of subway tunnel lining.

  • Flat plate system has structural weakness such as punching shear. Punching shear resistance can be increase by using a lager column section and effective depth, higer concrete compressive strength, and more flexural reinforcement ratio. But using a shear reinforcement is most economical, enable, workable solution in flat plate. The slab with thickness smaller than 250mm can not perform effectively due to insufficient development length of shear reinforcement in the slab. In case of proposed reinforcements, since the shear reinforcements were installed between the top bar and the bottom bar, shear elements generated slip failure before they reached yield. strength. effect of anchorage strength were effective anchorage length, concrete strength, diameter of shear element and anchorage detail. considering effect of slab thickness and concrete strength, formula of K factor propose in thin flat plate slab. by considering effect of anchorage length and concrete strength, strength of shear reinforcement will be computed correctly in thin flat plate slab.

  • Through field surveys and evaluation on several widened concrete pavements, issues on construction and design related problems are broken down into three categories to be discussed; poor smoothness, influence of traffic vibration on concrete curing, and poor connection to the existing pavement. There are many places where about 100mm only of the marginal strip is removed and where defects such as widening and faulting are observed. Also cracks arise again from the patched areas due to stress concentration near the joint. Roughness on the widened concrete pavement was evaluated and there are some stations where the smoothness limit is over passed. For design consideration, shortage of the required force in the tie-bar is expected in case of road widening specially from 3 lanes to 4 lanes. Finally the average pull-out force of specimens made from the current practice was about 57% of the required force. New connecting methods were suggested in this study.

  • Method of protruding steel bar embedded in PHC pile for connecting with foundation plate is an intermediate form of fixed and hinged connection and has often been used in architectural structures such as apartment complex. However, mechanical properties of this method have not been proved and its construction process is not simple. In this study, therefore, by analyzing previous research and by considering ratio of steel bar and concrete in PHC pile, which is minimum reinforcement of rebar, the newly optimized method of reinforcing joint of PHC pile and foundation plate is suggested with respect to PHC pile type (PHC 450, PHC 500, and PHC 600). To assess mechanical properties (ultimate tensile and shear strength) of joint of PHC pile and foundation plate, full scale experimental tests are performed. As a result, all cases are satisfied with required design criteria and can be practically applied. Our results indicate that reduction of rebar reinforcement compared to previous method would lead cost saving in PHC pile construction.

  • An essential step for SERGI is to show the TRANSFORMER PROTECTOR (TP) efficacy for all transformers and all types of rupture of insulation. Its research program philosophy is thus to maintain a strong connection between experiments and the theoretical developments. Up to now, two TP test campaigns have been performed, both under the worst conditions by creating low impedance faults leading to electrical arcs inside the transformer tank dielectric oil. In 2002, Electricite de France performed 28 TP tests. Then, in 2004, a second campaign of 34 TP tests was carried out by CEPEL, the Brazilian independent High Voltage Laboratory. For the 62 tests, each transformer was equipped with the TP, which reacts directly to the moving dynamic pressure peak, shock wave, caused by the low impedance fault. When an electrical arc occurs, only one pressure peak is generated. The initial energy transfer is almost instantaneous, and so is the phase change. Because of the oil inertia, the gas is very quickly pressurised. As it is more difficult to vaporise a liquid than to crack oil-vapour into smaller molecules, the arc location would mainly remain in the gaseous phase after and less gas will be produced. As a result, when comparing tests for which pressure peaks are respectively equal to 8 bar (116 psi) and 8.8 bar (127 psi), the corresponding arc energies vary by an order 10 of magnitude (0.1 MJ and 1 MJ respectively). The correlation of the results obtained between arc energy and dynamic pressure demonstrates that the arc energy is not the key parameter during transformer tank explosion, which is in opposition with the common electrical engineers belief.
