  • The electrical conductivity of some phthalimide derivatives and their complexes with Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), or Zn(II) has been measured in the temperature range 290-435 K. Both the structure of phthalimide molecule and its complexes played an effective role in the conduction process. Conductometric titration and IR spectra were used to characterize the structure of studied samples.

Manipulation of Surface Carboxyl Content on TEMPO-Oxidized Cellulose Fibrils

  • Simple methods of conductometric titration and infrared spectroscopy were used to quantify the surface carboxyl content of cellulose fibrils isolated by 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl radical (TEMPO)-mediated oxidation. The effects of different cellulose sources, post or assisted-sonication oxidation treatment, and the amount of sodium hypochlorite addition on the carboxyl content of cellulose were reported. This study showed that post sonication treatment had no influence on the improvement of surface carboxyl charge of cellulose macrofibrils (CMFs). However, the carboxyl content increased for the isolated cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs). Thus the carboxyl content of CNFs is different from those of their corresponding bulk oxidized cellulose and CMFs. Filter paper as a CNF source imparted a higher surface charge than did hardwood bleached kraft pulp (HWBKP) and microcrystalline cellulose (MCC). It was considered that the crystallinity and microstructure of the initial cellulose affected oxidation efficiency. In addition, the carboxyl content of cellulose was successfully controlled by applying sonication treatment during the oxidation reaction and adjusting the amount of sodium hypochlorite.

2-Thenoyl Ethylpyruvate의 몇 가지 3-Arylhydrazone 유도체에 대한 분광광도법, pH 및 전도도법 연구 (Spectrophotometric, pH-metric and Conductometric Studies on Some 3-Arylhydrazone Derivatives of (2-Thenoyl) Ethylpyruvate))

  • 3-(2-thenoyl) 3-(p-NO2-phenylhydrazone) ethyl pyruvate(I), p-Br(II) 및 p-CH3(III)의 에탄올 용액의 전자흡수 스펙트럼을 조사하여 스펙트럼이 전자 전이에 해당하는 4개의 흡수띠로 구성되어 있음을 알았다. 이들 화합물의 pK 값을 분광광도법 및 pH 측정법으로 조사한 결과, 화합물(I)의 변색 범위는 페놀프탈레인과 유사한 8~10으로, 산-염기 지시약으로 사용될 수 있음을 알았다. 몇 가지 전이원소 (Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), UO2(II), La(III) 및 Zr(IV))와 이들 화합물과의 연속안정도상수를 pH 법으로 조사하여 본 결과, 모든 금속과 몰 비 1:1 및 1:2 (M: L)의 화학양론적 착물을 형성하며, 세 가지 유도체의 pK 값과 착물의 안정도 상수(log K)의 순서는 III > II > I 임을 알았다. 또한 전도도법 적정을 수행하여 이 적정이 금속이온과 리간드를 정량하는데 사용할 수 있음을 알았다.

  • 벤조산, 파라메톡시벤조산 및 파라니트로벤조산의 산해리상수를 $25^{\circ}C$에서 메탄올의 무게퍼센트가 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 65 및 80%인 에탄올-물 혼합용매중에서 직접 전도도를 측정하는 방법과 약산의 시료를 과염소산용액으로 적정하면서 전도도를 측정하는 방법으로 구하고, 이 두가지 방법으로 구한 결과를 검토하고 다른 방법과 비교하였다.

산 가수분해를 이용하여 microcrystalline cellulose로부터 추출 된 cellulose nano-whisker의 특성분석 (Preparation and Characterization of Cellulose Nano-Whiskers Extracted from Microcrystalline Cellulose by Acid Hydrolysis)

  • 본 연구에서는 친환경적인 특징을 가지면서도 우수한 기계적 특성을 가지고 있어 고분자 복합재료의 보강제로 주목 받고 있는 Cellulose nanowhisker (CNW) 를 염산 혹은 황산을 사용한 산가수분해 방법을 이용하여 Microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) 로 부터 추출하였다. 염산 혹은 황산을 사용하여 추출된 CNW는 직경이 20 에서 30nm 정도였고, 길이가 200 에서 300 nm 로써, 형상학적 측면에서 유사한 특성을 가지는 것을 확인하였다. 또한 전해질 용액의 전기전도도를 이용한 적정 (conductometric titration) 결과 황산을 이용하여 제조되어진 CNW의 경우, 셀룰로오스 표면의 sulfate group 에 의해 나타나는 표면전하 값이 각각 140, 197.78 mmol/kg으로 나타났으며, 염산을 이용하여 제조되어진 CNW 의 경우 셀룰로오스 표면에 약한 전하 값을 가져 표면전하 값을 구할 수 없었다. 황산을 이용하여 추출된 CNW의 열중량 분석 결과 염산을 이용하여 추출된 CNW와 비교하여 열분해 온도가 급격히 감소하는 것을 확인할 수 있었으며, Broido's method를 이용하여 정의 되어진 열분해 거동에 대한 활성화 에너지 역시 상대적으로 낮음을 확인할 수 있었다.

Characterization of Carboxylated Cellulose Nanocrystals from Recycled Fiberboard Fibers Using Ammonium Persulfate Oxidation

  • As a way of finding value-added materials from waste medium density fiberboard (MDF), this study characterized cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) isolated by ammonium persulfate (APS) oxidation using recycled MDF fibers. Chemical composition of the recycled MDF fibers was done to quantify α-cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, nitrogen, ash and extractives. The APS oxidation was performed at 60 ℃ for 16 h, followed by ultrasonication, which resulted in a CNC yield of 11%. Transmission electron microscope images showed that rod-like CNCs had an average length and diameter of 167±47 nm and 8.24±2.28 nm, respectively, which gave an aspect ratio of about 20. The conductometric titration of aqueous CNCs suspension resulted in a carboxyl content of 0.24 mmol/g and the degree of oxidation was 0.04. Attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy clearly showed the presence of carboxyl group on the CNCs prepared by the APS oxidation. The change of pH of the aqueous CNC suspension from 4 to 7 converted the carboxyl group to sodium carboxylate group. These results showed that the APS oxidation was facile and CNCs had a one-step preparation method, and thus suggested an optimization of the oxidation condition in future.

Salicylate-Selective Electrodes Based on Tripodal Tris-thiourea Derivatives

  • A new highly salicylate-selective PVC membrane electrode based on tripodal tris-thiourea derivatives, L1 and L2, as neutral carriers is described. The electrodes display an excellent potentiometric response to salicylate ions and an anti-Hofmeister selectivity sequence in the following order: Salicylate? > ClO4 ? > Benzoate? > I? >NO3? > NO2? > Maleate? > Acetate? > Lactate? > Fumarate?. It also exhibited a near-Nernstian potential in a linear range of 5.0 × 10?5 - 1.0 × 10?1 M with a detection limit of 9.0 × 10?5 mol/L and a slope of ?59.9 mV/decade at a pH of 7.0 in a saline buffer solution at 25 oC. The stability constant (log KS) of the anionsionophore complex was also determined at 25 oC by a conductometric titration in DMSO solution.
