  • This paper describes the results of spalling by fire prevention of high performance concrete confining with metal-lath and containing PP fiber. According to test results, all the specimens without PP fiber shows entire failure after exposed to fire, while the other specimens confined with metal-lath has somewhat better spatting prevention performance than plain concrete specimens, which only show surface scale spatting combination of PP fiber with confinement of metal-lath leads to favorable spatting resistance. As PP fiber contents and thickness of metal-lath which is confined at concrete specimens increase, residual strength after exposed to fire shows to be increased.

  • Using the diffusion cell, a experimental study on the nitrogen permeability was performed with the various thickness of concrete. This is important with relating to the carbonation study because the study of $CO_2$ diffusivity needs to use thin concrete specimen. Experimental results show that the nitrogen permeability is few affected by concrete specimen's thickness. But, specimens with 1cm thickness have a high permeability and deviation relatively. Also, specimens with w/c ratio 0.40 have a low permeability than 0.58. Consequently, the 3cm thickness is the better stable than others but the 1cm thickness specimens will be stable in case having a lot of specimens.

  • The stress-strain curve of concrete confined with both lateral ties and carbon fiber sheet(CFS) is different to that of concrete confined with only lateral ties or CFS. The objective of this study is to investigate the stress-strain relation of reinforced concrete columns confined by composite material. The main variable of the specimens was the content rate of lateral ties to CFS. In the test a total 24 rectangular specimens, which are all 148$\times$148$\times$300mm size. The test results indicated that while the compressive strength of specimens confined with both lateral ties and CFS increased proportionally to the aided amount of two materials, the maximum strain of specimens depended on the larger strain of lateral ties or CFS.

  • This study reports on the structural characteristics of slab-column connections using an ultra-high-strength-fiber-reinforced concrete. Compression tests were performed on two slab-column and four isolated column specimens. During the column load tests were performing on the slab-column specimens, the slab loads were also applied to consider actual confinement condition at the slab-column joint. The main parameter investigated was the ' puddling ' of ultra-high-strength-fiber-reinforced concrete. This paper also investigates the effects of some parameters on slab-column specimens and isolated column specimens without the surrounding slab for their ability to transmit axial loads from the ultra-high-strength concrete columns through slab-column connections. The beneficial effects of the ultra-high-strength-fiber-reinforced concrete puddling on the transmission of column loads through slab-column connections are demonstrated.

  • This study investigates the fundamental properties and examines spalling appearances and residual compressive strength of high strength concrete containing hybrid organic fibers subjected to fire. Test showed that overall, an increase of fiber content decreased the fluidity of concrete, but specimens containing polyvinyl alcoho(PVA)+polypropylene(PP) fiber and nylon(NY)+PP fiber had improved flow. In addition, the air content of all specimens was properly ranged in target value, regardless of fiber content. As for the spalling properties when completed the fire test, control concrete exhibited spalling occurrence due to sudden elevated temperature. However, specimens containing more than 0.1 vol% of PP fiber prevented the spalling, while specimens containing PP+CL and PVA+PP fiber can protected from fire in more than 0.15vol% of the fiber content. Importantly, a specimen containing only 0.05vol% of NY+PP showed the favorable spalling resistance performance.

  • The acoustic emission (AE) is proposed as a feasible method for the real-time monitoring of the structural damage evolution in concrete materials that are typically used in the storage of nuclear wastes. However, the characteristics of AE signals emitted from concrete structures subjected to various environmental conditions are poorly identified. Therefore, this study examines the AE characteristics of the concrete structures during uniaxial compression, where the storage temperature and immersion conditions of the concrete specimens varied from 15℃ to 75℃ and from completely dry to water-immersion, respectively. Compared with the dry specimens, the water-immersed specimens exhibited significantly reduced uniaxial compressive strengths by approximately 26%, total AE energy by approximately 90%, and max RA value by approximately 70%. As the treatment temperature increased, the strength and AE parameters, such as AE count, AE energy, and RA value, of the dry specimens increased; however, the temperature effect was only minimal for the immersed specimens. This study suggests that the AE technique can capture the mechanical damage evolution of concrete materials, but their AE characteristics can vary with respect to the storage conditions.

  • Latex modification of concrete provides the material with higher flexural strength. This increase in flexural strength can attribute to the crack-arresting action of polymer in concrete, and also to the bonding they provide between the matrix and aggregates. This experimental study presents the fracture behavior of 12 flexural reinforced concrete beams repaired or strengthened by latex-modified concrete with the main experimental variables such as overlay thickness, strength thickness, and shear reinforcement. The results are as follow: All beam specimens having shear reinforcement were failed by delamination rupture at concrete interface at about 80% of ultimate loading after flexural cracking. All specimens overlayed and strengthened by latex-modified concrete (LMC) showed higher ultimate flexural strength than OPC control specimen, but lower than LMC control specimen. This increase in flexural strength could attribute to the high bonding they provide between the matrix and aggregates. All specimens except two shear unreinforced showed quite similar and consistent displacement behavior. The effect of overlay and strength thickness on the load-displacement relationship were a small at this study.

  • In this research, we tested 10 simply supported concrete-encased composite columns under monotonic eccentric loads and investigated their shear behaviour. The specimens tested were two reinforced concrete specimens, three steel-reinforced concrete (SRC) specimens with an H-shaped steel section (also called a beam section), and five SRC specimens with a cruciform-shaped steel section (also called a column section). The experimental variables included the transverse steel shape's depth and the longitudinal steel flange's width. Experimental observations indicated the following. (1) The ultimate load-carrying capacity was controlled by web compression failure, defined as a situation where the concrete within the diagonal strut's upper end was crushed. (2) The composite effect was strong before the crushing of the concrete outside the steel shape. (3) We adjusted the softened strut-and-tie SRC (SST-SRC) model to yield more accurate strength predictions than those obtained using the strength superposition method. (4) The MSST-SRC model can more reasonably predict shear strength at an initial concrete softening load point. The rationality of the MSST-SRC model was inferred by experimentally observing shear behaviour, including concrete crushing and the point of sharp variation in the shear strain.
