The current study prepared 9 laboratorial concrete mixes and 3 ready-mixed concrete batches to examine the size and shape effects in compression failure of lightweight aggregate concrete (LWC). The concrete mixes were classified into three groups: normal-weight, all-lightweight and sand-lightweight concrete groups. For each concrete mix, the aspect ratio of circular or square specimens was 1.0 and 2.0. The lateral dimension of specimens varied between 50 and 150 mm for each laboratorial concrete mix, whereas it ranged from 50 to 400 mm with an incremental variation of 50 mm for each ready-mixed concrete batch. Test observations revealed that the crack propagation and width of the localized failure zone developed in lightweight concrete specimens were considerably different than those of normal-weight concrete (NWC). In LWC specimens, the cracks mainly passed through the coarse aggregate particles and the crack distribution performance was very poor. As a result, a stronger size effect was developed in LWC than in NWC. Especially, this trend was more notable in specimens with aspect ratio of 2.0 than in specimens with that of 1.0. The prediction model derived by Kim et al. overestimated the size effect of LWC when lateral dimension of specimen is above 150 mm. On the other hand, the modification factors specified in ASTM and CEB-FIP provisions, which are used to compensate for the shape effect of specimen on compressive strength, were still conservative in LWC.

Two evaluation techniques of the tunnel lining concrete using ultra sonic velocity method are developed. Modified linear regression technique is proposed to enhance the corelation between the pulse velocity and the compressive strength of core specimens. And bivariate normal distribution is assumed to evaluate the quality of concrete as a terms of compressive strength. A simple corelation table between the pulse velocity and the compressive strength of core specimens are proposed.

Experimental research was carried out to investigate the confinement effect of concrete specimens confined by interlocking spirals subjected to the concentric axial compressive load. Main variables are the compressive strength of concrete with 2 levels(normal and high strength), the spacing of the spiral reinforcement, the yield strength of the spiral reinforcement with 2 levels and 4 different interlocking lengths. For the same volumetric ratio, the use of interlocking spirals is not as effective as the single spirals, provided that the spirals have the same diameter.

This study is aimed at the experimental investigation of the influence of the structural parameters such as concrete cover, width of specimen and bar size on the dowel action of reinforcing bari in high strength concrete members. Based on the proper combination of these parameter, a total of 46 specimens has been cast for fc'= 500 ㎏/㎠ and another 46 specimens for fc'= 700 ㎏/㎠, and cured at the laboratory. Comparative analyses have been made for the parametric contribution to the dowel strength from the test results, and a regress equation has been suggested.

This study investigates the filed application in Daebul Free Trade Zone applying both a flowing method using drying shrinkage-reducing superplasticizer(SRS) and an insulating curing method using double layer bubble sheet. Test results showed that fresh concrete satisfied target slump and air content. A structure adding SRS significantly decreased the total bleeding capacity and accelerated the setting time. As for the crack occurrence, the structure applying the flowing method and double bubble sheets simultaneously exhibited the most favorable crack endurance, while conventional concrete showed more than 1mm size of crack in overall. In addition, a structure applying the flowing concrete method partially presented the micro crack. For the area proportion of crack occurrence, the structure using the double bubble sheets indicated 9.8%, while others applying flowing concrete method was 28%, compared with that of conventional one. For the compressive strength of specimens, standard curing specimens indicated $3{\sim}33%$ higher value than that of specimens cured besides the field construction. The specimens containing SRS improved the strength of $2{\sim}6MPa$, which is $10{\sim}22%$ higher than that of conventional concrete.
This paper presents an experimental study of six steel reinforced high strength concrete T-shaped short-limb shear walls configured with T-shaped steel truss under low cyclic reversed loading. Considering different categories of ratios of wall limb height to thickness, shear/span ratios, axial compression ratios and stirrup reinforcement ratios were selected to investigate the seismic behavior (strength, stiffness, energy dissipation capacity, ductility and deformation characteristics) of all the specimens. Two different failure modes were observed during the tests, including the flexural-shear failure for specimens with large shear/span ratio and the shear-diagonal compressive failure for specimens with small shear/span ratio. On the basis of requirement of Chinese seismic code, the deformation performance for all the specimens could not meet the level of 'three' fortification goals. Recommendations for improving the structural deformation capacity of T-shaped steel reinforced high strength concrete short-limb shear wall were proposed. Based on the experimental observations, the mechanical analysis models for concrete cracking strength and shear strength were derived using the equivalence principle and superposition theory, respectively. As a result, the proposed method in this paper was verified by the test results, and the experimental results agreed well with the proposed model.

Frequency bandwidth has been combined to determine adequate frequency bandwidth which is necessary for nondestructive testing when using inverse synthetic aperture radar(ISAR). For imaging inside of concrete specimens using radar, the principles of radar and signal processing are discussed. Experimental data obtained from radar measurement of three different concrete specimens at two different frequency bandwidths of 2∼3.4 GHz, 3.4∼5.8 GHz and these two frequencies are combined to obtain improved imagery. A signal processing scheme has been implemented to visualize inside concrete specimens. The influence of frequency bandwidth was analyzed in nondestructive testing by changing frequency bandwidth for concrete specimen.
This paper experimentally and analytically elucidates the shear behavior and shear bearing capacity of partially prefabricated steel reinforced concrete (PPSRC) columns and hollow partially prefabricated steel reinforced concrete (HPSRC) columns. Seven specimens including five PPSRC column specimens and two HPSRC column specimens were tested under static monotonic loading. In the test, the influences of shear span aspect ratio and difference of cast-in-place concrete strength on the shear behavior of PPSRC and HPSRC columns were investigated. Based on the test results, the failure pattern, the load-displacement behavior and the shear capacity were focused and analyzed. The test results demonstrated that all the column specimens failed in shear failure mode with high bearing capacity and good deformability. Smaller shear span aspect ratio and higher strength of inner concrete resulted in higher shear bearing capacity, with more ductile and better deformability. Furthermore, calculation formula for predicting the ultimate shear capacity of the PPSRC and HPSRC columns were proposed on the basis of the experimental results.

This pioneer study investigates the size effect on the compressive and tensile strengths of fiber-reinforced self-compacting concrete (FR-SCC) with different specimens, before and after exposure to elevated temperatures. 432 self-compacting concrete (SCC) specimens with two concrete grades (50 and 80MPa) and three steel fiber ratios (0%, 0.5% and 1%) were prepared and tested. Moreover, based on the experimental results, new formulations were proposed to predict the residual strengths for different specimens. A parametric study was also carried out to investigate the accuracy of proposed formulations. Residual strength results showed that the cylinder specimen with dimensions of $100{\times}200mm$ was the most affected, while the cube with a size of 100 mm maintained a constant difference with the standard cylinder ($150{\times}300mm$). Temperature effect on the cube specimen (150 mm) was the least in comparison to other specimen sizes and types. In general, provision of steel fibers in SCC mixtures resulted in a reduction in temperature effect on the variance of a conversion factor. Parametric study results confirm that the proposed numerical models are safe to be used for all types of SCC specimens.
This paper presents an experimental study on the behavior of concrete-encased composite columns with multiseparate steel sections subjected to axial and eccentric loads. Six 1/4-scaled concrete-encased composite columns were tested under static loads. The specimens were identical in geometric dimensions and configurations, and the parameter of this experiment was the eccentricity ratio of the applied load. Each two of the specimens were loaded with 0, 10%, and 15% eccentricity ratios. The capacity, deformation pattern, and failure mode of the specimens were carefully examined. Test results indicate that full composite action between the concrete and the steel sections can be realized even though the steel sections do not connect with one another. The concrete-encased composite columns can develop stable behavior and sufficient deformation capacity by providing enough transverse reinforcing bars. Capacities of the specimens were evaluated based on both the Plain Section Assumption (PSA) method and the superimposition method. Results show that U.S. and Chinese codes can be accurate and safe in terms of bending capacities. Test results also indicate that the ACI 318 and Mirza methods give the best predictions on the flexural stiffness of this kind of composite columns.
