  • An active application of concrete track is being expected far the future constructions of Korean railroad. In comparison with the existing ballasted tract, a concrete track is very susceptible for the settlement, since its rehabilitation requires much time and cost. When a concrete track is constructed on fine-grained subgrade soil, excessive cumulative plastic settlements due to repetitive train road may occur. In this case, the settlement of the concrete track may be effectively reduced by installing a small number of small-diameter piles beneath the track. This paper presents the effect of pile installation on the reduction of cumulative plastic settlement of concrete track. A method combining experiential equation and numerical method is proposed. Using an existing experiential equation and the estimated earth pressure distribution, the cumulative plastic strain was calculated. From the results, it is verified that the effects of the pile installation is significant to effectively reduce the cumulative plastic settlement of concrete track. The reduction effects of the cumulative plastic settlement according to the pile number and pile arrangement are presented.

  • The total length of paved roads in Korea is 67,265 Km, and among these roads, about 40% of the national highways and 98% of local roads are paved with asphalt concrete. The major distress to asphalt pavement is rutting and fatigue crack. The permanent deformation including rutting accounts for about 75% of this distress. UTW(Ultra-Thin Whitetopping), which is known for its high-quality performance in asphalt pavement with rutting and cracking, seems to reduce maintenance costs significantly if it is used as the maintenance/repair method for domestic asphalt pavement. In the research, static load test was conducted to establish a behavior of Whitetopping under traffic and environmental condition. It showed that the effect of the thickness of the concrete layer and the temperature change was significant. In addition, the tensile strain as the wheel load position was close to interior and edge of concrete slab were increased up to 75% of maximum tensile strain. It showed that joint spacing must be considered in UTW design procedure.

  • The rehabilitation methods used in existing concrete box structures rely on the method of attaching the repair material to the section of the structure with a spray equipment. In the case of ceiling or wall parts, the adhesion force to the repair material may be reduced by the gravity and dead load after construction. In subway structures, vibration causes a problem that reduces the initial adhesion. Supplementary measures are needed as the quality of repair varies depending on the worker's proficiency and construction environment. In this study, mechanical pressurization equipment was developed that can apply a certain pressure after construction of a repairwork to solve problems such as reduction of adhesion of repair materials by gravity and variation of repair quality by labor work. To find out the effect of the pressurized equipment, a chamber similar to the field conditions was constructed to measure the attachment strength different from the pressurized condition, the section, and the environmental conditions. The pressurization differed from the other parts, but the adhesion strength of up to 70% was increased.

  • The purpose of this study is to present data for the reusing, rehabilitation and estimation of safety of RC structure damaged by fire, and for the prevention of explosive spatting by investigation the properties of explosive spalling, compressive strength and ultrasonic pulse velocity according to kinds of fine aggregate, admixture and water-cement ratios. In explosive spalling properties with kinds of aggregate, explosive spalling does not appear or little at surface in the case of used sea sand, but the case of using recycled sand or crushed sand is worse and worse. Property with the kind of admixture does not appear specially. And high strength concrete with W/C 30.5% was taken spalling, but 55% does not appear. It is found that residual compressive strength after exposed at high temperature showed 45% in W/C 55%, and 64% in W/C 30.5% of its original strength averagely. Ultrasonic pulse velocity is different with kinds of aggregate. W/C. and heating time. When 3 month age after heating ultrasonic pulse velocity is recovered abut 1.3%~8.4% of its 1 month age after heating.

  • In Korea, even though many aspects of medical care system for the elderly have been considered. Until now, most people have realized that the conceptualization range of geriatric hospital is the same as recuperation hospital. However the recent geriatric hospital includes a short term treatment like general hospitals, together with that it has a tendency to increase the propotion of rehabilitationby the Introduction of the concept of active rehabilitation treatment for returning to society. Unlike the general hospitals, geriatric hospital has got different characteristics in a managing and patient. However this is not a concrete standard of faacilities by the law of health welfare and medical. So these kinds of research will have to keep continuing. What I want to say In this study is that the prominence of information, which is based on the existing data analysis, is what forms my latest projects that engage with a wider repertoire of strategies and approaches toward architectural problem.

  • A research on the performance of retrofit anchors was conducted using adhesives for rehabilitation. From the pull-out tests of the chemical anchors, the effect of the hole diameter, spacer, temperature, moisture, embedment depth, and aging time were investigated. The spacer did not directly increased the pull-out load hilt increased post-yielding resistance therefore the ductility of the retrofit anchors. When the hole was cleaned and dried after the immersion, the pull-out load was greatly increased compared to the wet hole. A design equation was unposed depending on the embedment depth of the anchor bolt.

  • This paper presents the procedure for the optimal design of a PSC-I girder bridge considering life cycle cost (LCC). The load carrying capacity curves for the concrete deck, PSC-I girder and $\pi$-type pier were derived and used for the estimate of service lives. Total life cycle cost for the service life was calculated as sum of initial cost, damage cost, maintenance cost, repair and rehabilitation cost, user cost, and disposal cost. The advanced First Order Second Moment method was used to estimate the damage cost. The optimization method was applied to the design of PSC-I girder bridge. The objective function was set to the annual cost, which is defined by dividing the total life cycle cost by the service life, and constraints were formulated on the basis of Korean Standards. The optimal design was performed for various service lives and the effects of design factors were investigated.

  • The animal naming test (ANT) is known to be influenced not only by age, gender, and education but only by ethnicity, culture, and language. Thus, population-specific norm considering these variables needs to be developed for Korean-speaking elderly. We evaluated 185 healthy elderly people with five measures. Education was the single statistically independent correlate of the total number of words ($R^2$ = .312, p = .038). After adjusting for education, there was slightly significant negative correlation (r = -.215, p = .049) between age and total number of words. Mean number of words produced was $13.71{\pm}3.09$. The production frequency was negatively correlated with the typicality rating (r = -0.41, p < .05). The concrete and exact scoring rule could be set up in the comparison of naming performance between a normal and patient with neuro-linguistic disorder and its data could be utilized in a differential diagnosis for patients with neurological disorders.

  • Any track system needs major changes of its components during its life. The most economical solution is, if possible, to make all components reach their life limit during the major track rehabilitation operation. Usually, the rail does a role as the driving component for the objective: its life-time is equivalent to around 500 million tons of traffic on high speed lines. On the KTX line with 110 trains per day, this would correspond to around 16 years, which is probably too long for the elastic pads of a concrete slab track. The most economical solution should be to change them at an intermediate step of 8 years, without changing the rail, and then to change both the rail and elastic pad at 16 years intervals (some rail changes on the South East TGV line in France began 15 years after service opening at 260 km/h, but recent rails have better characteristics).

  • This paper presents an experimental investigation on the contribution of RCC strip in the in-filled RC frames. In this research, two frames were tested to study the behavior of retrofitted RC frame under cyclic loading. In the two frame, one was three bay four storey R.C frame with central bay brick infill with RCC strip in-between brick layers and the other was retrofitted frame with same stiffened brick work. Effective rehabilitation is required some times to strengthened the RC frames. Ferrocement concrete strengthening was used to retrofit the frame after the frame was partially collapsed. The main effects of the frames were investigated in terms of displacement, stiffness, ductility and energy dissipation capacity. Diagonal cracks in the infill bays were entirely eliminated by introducing two monolithic RCC strips. Thus more stability of the frame was obtained by providing RCC strips in the infill bays. Load carrying capacity of the frame was increased by enlarging the section in the retrofitted area.
