This paper addresses the key technologies for supertall building construction based on the Lotte World Tower project in Korea. First, the mega-mat foundation construction technologies are shown, including ultra-low heat concrete, heat of hydration control programs, and the logistics plan. Then, high strength concrete technologies of 50~80 MPa are introduced and discussed within the context of the highest pumping record in Korea at 514.25 meters. Structural design concepts of gravity load and lateral force resistance systems are introduced, along with surveying systems using GNSS and temporary installation plans of special heavy equipment like tower cranes, hoists, and high pressure concrete pumps. If it is possible to coordinate these key technologies and others, optimizing for the building's design and construction, supertall building construction can be successfully completed.

For the application of slip form method to the pylon of Yi Sun-shin bridge which has much variation in its cross section, the change of setting properties of concrete due to changing weather and long pumping distance has to be taken into consideration. Different setting properties of several types of cement according to the amount of compound and ambient temperature were observed in this paper.

The present work aims at investigating the effects of using various fine mineral additions as partial replacement to Portland cement on the tribological properties of concrete. To achieve this goal, concrete mixtures were prepared with different percentages (10, 20 and 30%) of limestone fillers (LF) and natural pozzolana (NP), and (20, 40 and 60%) of blast furnace slag (BFS). The interface yield stress (τ0) and viscous constants (η) that allow characterizing friction at the concrete-pipe wall interface were determined using a rotational tribometer. In addition, the compositions of the boundary layers that formed in the pumping pipes of the different concretes under study were also identified and analyzed. The experimental results obtained showed that the concretes studied have a linear tribological behavior that can be described by the Bingham model. Furthermore, the use of different mineral additions, especially limestone fillers and blast furnace slags, even at high rates, had a beneficial effect on the optimization of the volume of paste present in the boundary layer, which made it possible to significantly reduce the viscous constant of concrete. However, a maximum rate of 10% of natural pozzolana was recommended to achieve tribological properties that are favorable to the pumpability of concrete.
Concrete repair and reinforcement is a complex process, presenting unique challenges very different from those experience in the field of construction. The purpose of this study is to analyze the pattern and mechanism of deteriorations in irrigation and drainage structure. Damage and deteriorated structures are classified with several types. This provides a survey of crack repair methods, including a summary of the procedures that are being used. It is systematically evaluated with the disintegration on irrigation & drainage structure; drainage sluice gate, pumping station, drainage pumping station. Following the evaluation of the irrigation & drainage structure, a suitable repair and reinforcing procedure can be selected based on this report

Steel Fiber reinforced self-compacting concrete (SFRSCC) has been widely used in a number of structures, such as ordinary civil infrastructures, sky scrapers, nuclear power plants, hospitals, dams, channels and etc. Thanks to its short and discrete reinforcing fibers, its performance, including tensile strength, ductility, toughness and flexural strength gets much better in comparison with ordinary self-compacting concrete (SCC) without any reinforcing fibers. Despite all these aforementioned advantages of SFRSCC, its performance highly depends on fiber's orientation. In case of short discrete fibers, the orientation of fibers is completely random and cannot be controlled during pumping process. If fibers distribution inside hardened state concrete are randomly distributed, it leads to less resistance potential of concrete element, especially in terms of flexural and tensile strength. The maximum expected strength may not be achieved. Therefore, fiber alignment has been considered as one of the important factors in SFRSCC. To address this issue, this study investigates the effects of concrete matrix's density and inlet velocity on fiber alignment during the pumping process using a finite element method.

Mix design of C80A which is applied to the vertical members of The Burj Dubai Tower, the tallest building of the world, was performed so as to meet the requirements of rheological property, mechanical properties & construction sequences based on material analysis in Dubai, UAE. Experimental investigations were carried out to evaluate & optimize the quantities of total binders, the proportions of Micro Silica, Dune Sand & PFA, changes of S/a and the comparison of chemical admixture, etc. Approximately $65,000m^3$ of C80A concrete has been poured to the vertical members since 16-Apr-2006. In the actual application, it was showed that C80A has proper early strength achievement, excellent mechanical properties and satisfactory flowability & workability. The results of extensive site testing can be summarized that the average compressive strength at 28days is 98.8MPa, the average elastic modulus at 28days is 47.8GPa, the flow of concrete after pumping at the height of 250m (L72) was over 500mm.

Recently, precast type SCP modules are being used instead of PSC structures in order to reduce the construction period and costs of special structures such as nuclear power plants and LNG storage tanks. The inside of the SCP module is connected with a stud for the integral behavior of the steel and concrete, and the use of high fluidity concrete is required. High fluidity concrete generally has a high content of binder, which leads to an increase in hydration heat and shrinkage, and a problem of non-uniform strength development. Therefore, in this study, fluidity and passing performance of high fluidity concrete according to material properties are investigated to select optimum mix design of low binder based high fluidity concrete. Mechanical properties of high fluidity concrete before and after pumping are examined using pump car. The filling performance of SCP mock-up members was evaluated by using high fluidity concrete finally.

Riverbed filtration(RBF) system is used to develop ground water and infiltrated water supplies from permeable sand and gravel deposits. RBF plants are constructed with a reinforced concrete caisson that serves as a wet well pumping station. The lateral well screens are projected horizontally into waterbearing deposits from inside the caisson. Riverbed filtration(RBF) is a low-cost and efficient alternative water treatment for drinking-water applications.

In twentieth century, a rigid pavement composed of a series of thin Portland Cement Concrete has been accepted due to the desirable structural strength of concrete, durability and economy. However, despite of precise design and construction of concrete highway pavements, some of concrete pavements (example : Interstate-l0 and 75 in U.S.A, 88 Olympic express highway and Jung-bu express highway in Korea) has already shown severe signs of longitudinal and transverse cracking, faulting, and pumping before the end of their intended service life. This highlights the need for better understanding of concrete pavement behavior using structural analysis program. For these reasons, this research was performed to study an analytical behavior of concrete pavements, especially for the effects of skewed joints on concrete pavements. Subsequently, this research should give better understanding of concrete pavement behavior to the highway engineers and provide effective remedies to the concrete highway pavements.

It becomes difficult and high in cost to construct new ducts and/or tunnels for power cables in domestic areas. This paper presents possible strategy of an HTS distribution cables for distributing electric power in local areas as niche marketing. Reflected were its important distinction such as system configuration, rationale, establishment of strategy and considerably high economical efficiency compared with present underground cables. In this paper, applicable important items by using HTS distribution cables in water pumping powerhouse and distribution substation as example objective regions were reviewed. Based on this, the following items on distribution HTS system are examined. (I)A review of constructing a model system to introduce high temperature superconducting distribution cables to objective areas is presented. (2)The strategy to capture HTS distribution cable in water pumping powerhouse and distribution substation as niche marketing regions were reviewed. (3)In concrete, system configuration, rationale, establishment of strategy and considerably high economical efficiency are reviewed between existing cable and HTS one.
