Recently, the prestressed concrete long-span bridegs are increasingly built at various locations in the world. The mechanical and structural behavior of prestressed concrete bridges is very complex because of nonlinear and time-dependent material behavior and sequential change of structural system due to stepwise construction. These factors may cause construction errors with respect to design value and monitoring system is needed to minimize or to protect construction errors. This study presents the basis development of monitoring system for precise construction of large scale prestressed concrete bridges.

An experimental study was performed to examine the feasibility of using silicic wastes as construction materials for civil structures, and investigate its utility as a replacement for the favored nature resource to prevent the economic loss. In order to achieve this objective, mechnical properties of concrete containing silicic wastes is tested by investigating the strength development through parameters of water-binder ratios replacement 10 percent ratio with respect to curting conditions. The effect of stringth development is investigated for curing conditions when silicic wastes of 10 percent of cement-binder ratios is containde. Comparision on compressive strength of normal concrete and concrete containing silicic wastes at 28 day is conducted. The concrete with silicic wastes have larger compressive strength than of normal concrete by about 20 percent, when cured at 80 degree. The wastes concrete using silica sand shows increased strength, fracture toughness, elastic modulus and strain than the normal concrete, although the silicic wastes concrete could be able to satisfy the generally required strength for conventional concrete structures.

Recently as the development of a large-scale ocean structure or ocean is in progress, the importance of underwater concrete construction came to the fore. However, a problem with this underwater concrete construction is the segregation of cement and aggregate occurs when concrete is poured into the underwater. However, recently as an adhesiveness of the constituents of fresh concrete is increased even in our country, antiwashout concrete admixture were developed. The antiwashout concrete admixture can reduce the segregation significantly. Although this antiwashout underwater concrete is superior to the traditional underwater concrete in terms of durability, watertightness, stability, etc. But it is still unsatisfied due to the lack of criterion or construction experiences. Furthermore, because of an insufficiency of natural aggregate, the development of replacing aggregate came to be necessary. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to investigate the feasibility of sea sand as a replacing aggregate and the characteristic change of antiwashout underwater concrete using river sand, sea sand, and blended sand (river sand:sea sand=3:7) through experimental researches.

Concrete structure is recognized as the universal structuring material for its outstanding formability, economic efficiency, and strength development. However, as the ageing of field workers and the deficiency of skilled workers due to evasions from 3D business have recently become the major issues of the industry in Korea and as the materials are becoming more diversified and complicated for today's concrete structures are becoming higher, larger, and specialized, the need for practicality of construction work based on new technology and new method has greatly increased. Therefore, the overall condition of today's construction business requires researches and developments on the high fluidity concrete for higher construction efficiency and quality improvements. With this reason, this study investigated study development tendency and development situation of the high fluidity concrete, arranged experiment performance, and domestic or international specification used in performance valuation of the high fluidity concrete.
Since the mechanical properties of cement-based materials are time-dependent due to the prolonged cement hydration process, those of fiber reinforced concrete(FRC) may also be time-dependent. Toughness is one of important properties of FRC. Therefore, it should be investigated toughness development of FRCs with curing ages to fully understand the time-dependent characteristics of FRCs. To this end, the effect of curing ages on flexural toughness development of steel fiber reinforced concrete is studied. Three point bending test with notched beam specimen was adapted for this study. Hooked-end steel fiber(DRAMIX 40/30) was used as a fiber ingredient to investigate w/c ratio and fiber volume fraction effect on toughness development during curing. Three different water-cement ratios(0.44, 0.5 and 0.6) and fiber volume fractions(0%, 0.5% and 1%) were used as influence factors. Each mixture specimens were tested at five different ages, 0.5, 1, 3, 7 and 28 days. The study shows that flexure toughness development with age is quite different than other concrete material properties such as compressive strength. The study also shows that the toughness development trend correlates more closely to water/cement ratio than to fiber volume fraction.
High strength concrete is being used increasingly in mass structure projects. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of temperature during mixing, placing and curing on the strength development, hydration products and pore structures of high strength concrete in mass structures. The experiments were conducted with two different model walls, viz.: 1.5 m and 0.3 m under typical summer and winter weather conditions. The final part of this study deal with the clarification of the relationship between the long-term strength loss and the microstructure of the high strength concrete at high temperatures. Test results indicated that high elevated temperatures in mass concrete structures significantly accelerate the strength development of concrete at the early ages, while the long-term strength development is decreased. The long-term strength loss is caused by the decomposition of ettringite and increased the total porosity and amount of small pores.
The extensive usage of pretensioned prestressed concrete component in modem construe- tion as structural members mandates precise understanding of its mechanism. Especially, an adequate transfer of prestressing force from steel tendons to concrete around the end regions of the member is a critical issue. Due to the importance of the topic, several investigators have formulated equations modeling the transfer bond length based on various bonding mechanism between steel and concrete. However, the existing models are still inadequate in predicting the bond development in pretensioned prestressed concrete members. Therefore, this study presents a model of transfer bond length based on rational theory that can simulate experimental results. The model is developed into solid mechanics based structural analysis computer program. The program is validated by comparing the analysis results with experimental results of bond stress distribution, concrete strain profiles, and transfer length in pretensioned prestressed concrete members. The proposed analytical procedure in this study can be utilized as a useful tool for realistic evaluation of transfer length in pretensioned prestressed concrete members.
Most previous studies have generally overlooked the contribution of thermal stresses generated within the concrete mass when subjected to microwave heating and reported on pore-pressure as being the dominant cause of surface spalling. Also, the variation in electromagnetic properties of concrete and its effects on the microwave heating process have not been studied in detail. In this paper, finite element modeling is used to examine the simultaneous development of compressive thermal stresses and pore-pressure arising from the microwave heating of concrete. A modified Lambert's Law formulation is proposed to estimate the microwave power dissipation in the concrete mass. Moreover, the effects of frequency and concrete water content on the concrete heating rate and pattern are investigated. Results show high compressive stresses being generated especially in concrete with a high water content when heated by microwaves of higher frequencies. The results also reveal that the water content of concrete plays a crucial role in the microwave heating process.
Faced with the growing needs of material resources and requirements of environmental protection for achieving sustainable development, it has become necessary to study and investigate all possibilities of exploring crushed and dune sand, reusing industrial wastes and by-product, and also applying new technologies including sand concrete which can replace the conventional concretes in certain structures to surmount the deficit on construction materials, conserve natural resources, lessen the burden of pollutants to protect the environment and reduce the consumption of energy sources. This experimental study is a part of development and valorization of local materials project in Skikda region (East of Algeria). It aims at studying the effects of partial replacement of sand with marble waste as fines on several fresh and hardened properties of sand concrete in order to reuse these wastes in the concrete manufacturing, resolve the environmental problems caused by them and find another source of construction materials. To achieve these objectives, an experimental program has been carried out; it was consisted to incorporate different percentages of marble waste fines (2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12%) in the formulations of sand concrete and study the development of several mechanical and rheological properties. We are also trying to find the optimal percentage of marble waste fine replaced in sand concrete that makes the strength of the concrete maximum. Obtained results showed that marble waste fines improve the properties of sand concrete and can be used as an additive material in sand concrete formulation.
