A magnitude of 7.3 in Richter scale earthquake the strongest in-land earthquake in hundred years struck central Taiwan on September 21, 1999. It caused over 2,400 deaths and 30 some trillion won losses. To give an overview of this devastating earthquake this presentation will cover the following topics: 1) Introduction to Taiwan historical and 921 earthquake. 2) Damages to people landslide building dam bridge tank power facility etc. 3) Strong motion data and its characteristics. 4) Some changes to the building code triggered by the experience of the earthquake. Finally a concluding remark will be made.

In this paper, we propose a simple estimate of relative risk based on a functional equation. We derive the asymptotic normality with a restricted condition. Then we discuss some interesting features as concluding remarks. Finally we comment briefly about application of the estimate to the testing problems and compare our estimate with that of Begun through simulation study.

In this paper we review a bi-aspect nonparametric test for the two-sample problem under the location translation model and propose a new one to accommodate a more broad class of underlying distributions. Then we compare the performance of our proposed test with other existing ones by obtaining empirical powers through a simulation study. Then we discuss some interesting features related to the bi-aspect test with a comment on a possible expansion for the proposed test as concluding remarks.

This study reviews several well-known control charts for the location parameter with a discussion of the relationship between the maintenance of the control chart and a series of hypotheses testing. As a by-product, we then propose a new median control chart with the sign test statistic. We also modify the nonparametric control charts to easily understand the relation. Then we illustrate the construction of several median control charts with the industrial data and compare the efficiency among several control charts. Finally, we discuss some interesting features for the median control charts as concluding remarks.

This study proposes a modified definition about $C_{pk}$ based on median as the centering parameter in order to more easily control the process since the mean does not represent any quantile of the asymmetric process distribution. Then we consider an estimate and derive the asymptotic normality for the estimate of the modified $C_{pk}$. In addition, we provide an example with asymmetric distributions and discuss the estimation for the limiting variance that are followed by some concluding remarks.

In this paper we investigate integral means inequalities for the integral operators $Q_{\lambda}^{\mu}$ and $P_{\lambda}^{\mu}$ applied to suitably normalized analytic functions. Further, we obtain some neighborhood and inclusion properties for a class of functions $G{\alpha}({\phi}, {\psi})$ (defined below). Several corollaries exhibiting the applications of the main results are considered in the concluding section.

In this paper, we consider the permutation tests for the multivariate data under the two-sample problem setting. We review some testing procedures, which are parametric and nonparametric and compare them with the permutation ones. Then we consider to try to apply the permutation tests to the multivariate data having the continuous and discrete components together by choosing some suitable combining function through the partial testing. Finally we discuss more aspects for the permutation tests as concluding remarks.

We consider a nonparametric test procedure for the multi-sample problem with grouped data. We construct the test statistics based on the scores obtained from the likelihood ratio principle and derive the limiting distribution under the null hypothesis. Also we illustrate our procedure with an example and obtain the asymptotic properties under the Pitman translation alternatives. Also we discuss some concluding remarks. Finally we derive the covariance between components in the Appendix.

Proxy data in the historical period in Japan since the 9th century has been first described and their analyzed fluctuation series were shown. Secondly, the climatic records before and after the Meiji restoration in 1868 were mentioned. Thirdly, available date sets of historical climatic records in Japan are listed. Lastly, published records and tables for Japan during the recent years were overviewed. Some discussion on the climatic records and tables is given as concluding remarks.
