A Study on the Congress Palace in new city(E42) of Rome - Focused on the Adalberto Libera's project(1937-1943) - (로마 신도시(E42) 국제회의장에 관한 연구 - 아달베르토 리베라의 당선작(1937-1943)을 중심으로-)

  • The study is on the analysis of Adalberto Libera's works, which are those of the competition works for international congress hall in 'E42'. I exerted a conclusion from analysis and studies of congress palace as well as informed data about architect Libera and uninformed original sketch of it. 1. Through analysis of original sketch data in possession of archives of paris Centre Pompidue and relevant sketch from the works, Libera adopts the modern architecture of Italy to the formalization process of concept as one of architectural methods. 2.In contrast to the way of elucidation of historicity of classicism architect, Libera's initial sketch is one of the traits from modernist's architectural concept process. Libera completes his architectural style to have developed new architecture vocabulary from 'Floating transparent box' which was result from intuition and imagination. 3 By comparing all the first plan, the second plan and constructed project, we can infer that Libera's plan was influenced by E42's classicism urban environment and masterplanner Piacentini. In addition, through historicity explanation method of modernist, it is adjudicated that the front side of facade with classism and the back side of facade with modern are partially accepted. 4. By analysing architectural concept's formalization process from original sketch of Congress palace, outstanding architect of Italian Fascism architecture, it provided new methods of architectural programming with the concrete examples.

  • This paper proposes how to develop the EC(Electronic Commerce) for industrial-related items, which has not been tried yet in EC areas. Usually industrial design derives an idea and concept for a new product from the needs of end-users and manufacturers. Then this product is developed through the design process such as idea-sketch, rendering, and design modeling mock-up. The purpose of this paper is to vitalize the trade for some items which are necessary for the design process and are intermediate products. That is, the idea and concept from the needs and seeds can be dealt with as one item. Furthermore, the idea-sketch and rendering materializing from the idea can be an item also. By doing so, excellent design items which could be thrown away in the middle of the process can be made into valuable commodities. Then we can specify the role of Designer, Manufacturer, and End-User as a buyer or a seller.

  • Chinese ethnic minorities are inheriting their own traditions based on thousands of years of community life. Yunnan province in china is a castle in which many ethnic minorities have been living on the basis of various natural environments. Their traditional village can be regarded as a place reflecting minorities' thousands year of history and culture, and elements of positive social spaces are seen from the old village. Streets and places of the village are accumulated as images for residents. Based on their imagination-concept, sketch maps, reflecting residents' cognitive perception were collected. Analysis of 21 sketch maps shows that architectural elements, forming a unique landscape and community life contribute to establish a unity of one nation. the oldest tree in the village has a strong specificity as a place with the belief that the tree protects all residents in the village. Space in the head of the residents and Social spaces, embedded in the memories of the residents living in the community continued organically and the roads of the village showed clear recognition. Following this, the analysis methodology of social spaces and sketch will be examined in depth.

  • Seongbuk Village and Ungcheon Village are Town Wall Villages that reflect social and historical backgrounds. villagers have formed villages based on community life. The streets and places of the villages are accumulated as images in the memory of the inhabitants. Based on their imagination-concept, 30 sketch maps, reflecting residents' cognitive perception were collected. Analysis of 30 sketch maps shows that other forming of Collective maps. In the past, Villages historical facilities had changed roles, but the relationship between the place and the place has been continuous, and according to the development process of the villages, the relationship between streets and places has been formed. Following this, the analysis methodology of social spaces and sketch will be examined in depth.

  • This study purposed more effective drawing process in practical lecture with students. Researched materials were constitution to a semester of presentation technique curriculum major in industrial design for freshman course. Students exert to entrance examination of university to get a good point in practical test. There did not have creative action in minds. But, design required concept of good idea sketch and creative technique. At study process should make correction a reform to sketch skill by repeat practicing with misunderstand drawing or imitative idea sketch. According to the practical test result & response revised lecture schedule. And then, I had survey to questionnaire paper for feedback by trial result. Besides, I was study to effect use the drawing materials for example, colored pencil, marker pastel. I think important to first use to way understanding materials and basic training. Design education be driven to new creative sketch skill. Design is the creative process to which brings ideas to reality.

m-shaper: A Sketch Drawing System for Musical Shape Generation (m-shaper: 음악적 형태 생성을 위한 스케치 드로잉 시스템)

  • This paper proposes a sketch drawing system called m-shaper for musical shape generation. Through simple sketch drawing, users can generate musical shape configuration which can be played by a computer. One key ingredient of the process is a unique concept for the interactive musical shape generation that combines shape and sound based on the designers' manual inputs. m-shaper captures the numerical values of drawing characteristics and determines how the musical notes and shapes can be generated. Using a tablet, four sketch movements are captured such as pressure, tilt, rotation and speed. Each point of a shape corresponds to a certain musical note that represents a type of instrument, duration, pitch, and octave. The current m-shaper has been developed as a computational tool for supporting the schematic design process. Designers in m-shaper draw geometric sketches with a musical inspiration and explore possible conceptual forms. They also can control the parameters for results and transform their sketch drawing.

A Study on the Characteristic of the Light in Louis I. Kahn's Architectural Space (루이스 칸 건축공간의 빛의 특성 고찰)

  • A study of light in Kahn's architecture must be significance as a work in building new architectural space and a new foundation for architecture, as well as clarification of the uniqueness of Kahn's architectural space and search for its significance. In addition, the study provides a greater comprehension of an the concept of Kahn's architecture by clarifying the degree of association of light into other concepts of architecture. Therefore, this study attempts to examine Louis I. Kahn's statement, sketch and work. His sketch along with the characteristics of the technique how to present it also enables comprehension of other aspects of architecture as a means to revive architecture. Khan's use of light enabled the evolution of primarily two types 'specular surface' and 'unique opening part' by associating them with the need to diminish glaringness. Each of these types has been evolved individually and is indicative of a concept of light that can be largely divided into ' object's light ' and ' space's light ' Object's light refers to a type in which the formative significance of structural part and different directions of light coexist, and its formative characteristics play a role that differentiate places within space. Space's light is present on wall spaces that limit space and exhibits its distinguished role differentiating places within space in the form of 'expression'.

  • Mobile network infrastructure is being completed with the development of hardware and software for mobile devices. Network in mobile devices has evolved for telematics that is expanded much more than its existing concept. Telematics is compound word that is formed from the words "telecommunication" and "informatics". It means that telematics performs control and monitoring service with using mobile device resources. These services provide their services for users' requests through wired or wireless network from mobile devices and server that offers contents and network service collects management information of mobile devices. Map service is one of the preferred services for many telematics users. However, mobile map service has a limit between traffic and information sharing. Therefore it is very important to supply their information for both service provider and terminal user. In this paper, we design a new interactive sketch map using routes and information on the space to be applied effectively, and provide an extended document format that is defined to an extensible and dynamic clustering scheme to have portability map service for mobile device.

  • In case of sketching a conceptual model in 3D space, it's not easy for designer to recognize the depth cue accurately and to draw a model correctly in short time. In this paper, multi-strokes based sketch is adopted not only to reduce the error of input point but to substantiate the shape o) the conceptual design effectively. The designer can see the drawing result immediately after stroking some curves. The shape can also be modified by stroking curves repeatedly and be confirmed the modified shape in real time. However, the multi-strokes based sketch needs to manage the great amount of input data. Therefore, the drawing space is divided into the limited spatial cubical grids and the movable infernal vertex in each spatial grid is implemented and used to define the surface by the multi-strokes. We implemented the spatial sketching system which allows the concept designer's intention to 3D model data efficiently.

Effects of Different Advance Organizers on Mental Model Construction and Cognitive Load Decrease

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate why advance organizers (AO) are effective in promoting comprehension and mental model formation in terms of cognitive load. Two experimental groups: a concept-map AO group and a key-word AO group and one control group were used. This study considered cognitive load in view of Baddeley's working memory model: central executive (CE), phonological loop (PL), and visuo-spatial sketch pad (VSSP). The present experiment directly examined cognitive load using dual task methodology. The results were as follows: central executive (CE) suppression task achievement for the concept map AO group was higher than the key word AO group and control group. Comprehension and mental model construction for the concept map AO group were higher than the other groups. These results indicated that the superiority of concept map AO owing to CE load decrement occurred with comprehension and mental model construction in learning. Thus, the available resources produced by CE load reduction may have been invested for comprehension and mental model construction of learning contents.
