The purposes of this study are how to consider the concept of magnetization by fifth elementary school students and how to change conceptions of students after the experiment with developed experiment sets. Personal interviews to the students were used for this study. to probe the conceptions of them, it allowed them to make gestures and to draw pictures through interview. From the analyses of the interview data, following results were found. Students have mostly understood the concept of magnetization, but have not remembered the term itself. And, the students believe that iron is magnetized only if iron was directly contacted a magnet. After the experiment, the students understand that iron could be also magnetized without direct contact to a magnet. And also, they could explain magnetization of iron powder around a magnet by applying the concept of magnetization. This new experiment is a good tool to understand concepts of magnetism.
In this paper, the experimental modeling of the force between permanent magnet and iron-core solenoid is suggested for more accurate control of 3 D.O.F. motor using the electromagnetic force. In the case of iron-core solenoid, the general equation of solenoid cant be used simply because of its nonlinearity. Therefore, the magnetic flux density is estimated through the concept of equivalent permanent magnet. The force distribution between permanent magnet and iron-core solenoid is more dependent on the magnetization of iron core caused by the permanent magnet than any other parameters. Therefore, the equation of the force estimation between these magnetic systems can be modeled by the experimental function of the magnetization of iron core. Especially, if the distance between iron-core solenoid and permanent magnet is far enough, the force equation through experiment can be expressed from only the current of coil and the distance between iron-core solenoid and permanent magnet. It means that Coulombs law can be used for magnetic systems and it is validated through the experiment. Therefore, force calibration is performed by the concept of Coulombs law.
For the discussion of palaeogeomagnetic field direction and the movement and rotation of geotectonic blocks it is prerequisite to eliminate the secondary remanent magnetization component out of the NRM vector of given rock samples. Among various techniques alternating field and thermal demagnetization methods are most easily applicable and most widely used ones. Physical principle underlying these methods is the concept of relaxation time: Either with an action of external magnetic field or with an elevated temperature relaxation time of magnetic minerals can be drastically shortened. It has been furthermore shown experimentally that the secondary remanent magnetization can be more easily demagnetized than the primary remanent magnetization. Through careful stepwise demagnetization it should also be possible to discriminate the kind of various remanent magnetizations. In addition to the introduction to the underlying physical principles and experimental results of the alternating field and thermal demagnetization this paper gives various practical tips in earring out the demagnetization experiments. Each alternating field and thermal demagnetization instrumentation which is easily adaptable to domestic palaeomagnetic laboratories is also introduced. This paper provides a compact and practical introduction to the methods in palaeomagnetism and would be of interest to present workers and to those who want to embark on research in this field.

This paper examines various aspects of the electromagnetic responses of the ring resonator located in the transverse electromagnetic cell. In addition, an equivalent circuit for the ring resonator is proposed and analyzed based on the electromagnetic phenomenon of the resonator. The equivalent circuit was simply modeled based on the concept of magnetization. A method for achieving a wider operating bandwidth of the negative permeability is provided. The ring resonator with its resonant frequency of 13.56 MHz was designed and its characteristics were examined in terms of S-parameters, effective permeability, loss rate, bandwidth, etc. The circuit and electromagnetic simulation results show an excellent agreement as well as that of theory.
A novel Permanent Magnet based Magneto Rheological (PM-MR) damper is proposed in this paper. The principle of proposed MR damper is achieved by designing a linearly varying magnetization area with-respect to the movable permanent magnetic based piston setup. Nowadays, commercially available MR damper uses electromagnetic coils for generating the variable magnetic fields corresponding to the variable damping force. The amount of magnetic field produced by the electromagnetic coils are depends on the biasing current of voltage source. The key enabling concept of the proposed MR damper is to replace the electromagnetic coils and the voltage sources by utilizing the variable area based permanent magnetic piston setup. The proposed unique design structure of PM-MR damper has an increasing shear mode damping force with the piston movement in both jounce and rebound motion. In this research, analytical model of the proposed structure is derived and the structural design of proposed concept is verified using numerical CAD tool. As a result, the damping force is increase when piston movement in both jounce and rebound motion.
We have designed, fabricated and demonstrated a novel micro-system for programmable magnetic actuation using magnetic elliptical pathways on Si substrates. Lithographically patterned soft NiFe ellipses are arranged sequentially perpendicular to each other as stepping stones for the transport of magnetic beads. We have measured the magnetization curve of the ellipsoid ($9\;{\mu}m{\times}4\;{\mu}m{\times}0.1\;{\mu}m$) elements with respect to the long and short axes of the ellipse. We found that the magnetization in the long axis direction is larger than that in the short axis direction for an applied field of ${\leq}$ 1,000 Oe, causing a force on carriers that causes them to move from one element to another. We have successfully demonstrated a micro-system for the magnetic actuation of biomolecule carriers of superparamagnetic beads (Dynabead$^{(R)}$ 2.8 ${\mu}m$) by rotating the external magnetic field. This novel concept of magnetic actuation is useful for future integrated lab-on-a-chip systems for biomolecule manipulation, separation and analysis.
It was known conceptually that ferrofluid or air driven flows induced by waste heat energy could generate electric power in surrounding windings by changing the magnetic flux with time through the colis. In the last decade, a ferrohydrodynamics energy harvesting system based on magnetorheology has been investigated experimentally and numerically. However, it was focused on the movement of air droplets or nanoparticles in the ferrofluid, therefore the electric power generated in the device was not enough to use practically. In this study, we developed the electrical generation concept based on magnetic particle flows for harvesting large amount of electric power and conducted measurements and computations for verifying the concept of electrical generation. In order to obtain a significant amount of electrical energy by using magnetic particle flows, it was critical to control the magnetization direction of magnetic nanoparticles in the fluid by a permanent magnet and to change the magnetic flux with time by air bubbles when the fluid flows in a millimeter-sized channel passed through surrounding windings.
Pre-service teachers' understandings on magnet was investigated through the questionnaire method. The questionnaire was composed of 17 questions about the strength of magnet, the magnetized object and the direction of magnetic field around magnet. In this investigation study, 225 pre-service teachers were selected through random sampling method, who were sophomores in a National University of Education. The formation rate of the scientific conceptions on the strength of magnet was 30.3% and that on the direction of magnetic field around magnet was 53.9%. The average formation rate of scientific conception of all questions on magnet was 44.13%, which doesn't seem to be high as expected. It shows that many of subjects of the questionnaire don't understand fully the concept of moleclar magnet model and the superposition effects of magnetic field around magnet. The formation rate of the scientific conception on magnet of females who took courses in sciences in high school were higher than that of females who took courses in arts in high school, which had meaningful difference (p<.05).
The purpose of this study is to develop machine embroidery textile designs for each technique that can be expressed using a single-headed computer embroidery sewing machine through a machine embroidery CAD system. For research, embroidery CAD utilized the Artistic digitizer, and the guillotine computer-mechanical magnetization machine used ELNA. The design concept was limited to portraits and relics of independence activists in six memorial halls built in Korea. The results of this study are as follows. First, it was found that the machine embroidery texture, which could only be produced by industries in the past, can be expand in the infinite creative embroidery design area by enabling the digitalization of motif images and the simulation of machine embroidery techniques through various layout options. Second, in the development of machine embroidery textures, it was found that the setting of the width, height, axis ratio, stitch, object, path, length, density, layer order, etc. in embroidery CAD is a very important part of determining the completeness of the embroidery results. Third, mechanical embroidery textile designs, which can be represented by single-head computer machine embroidery machine were able to show colorful embroidery results that differs from the original image by using seven main techniques and five deep technique alone or in combination, according to the designer's intention.
