  • In this paper, we propose a simple method to reduce categorical variables into smaller, but significant numbers, and also demonstrate how the proposed method can be applied to the problem of reduction that empirical research often faces in the course of data processing. For the purpose, we introduce a concept of pseudo-correlation coefficient to make it possible to use factor analysis (FA) as a tool for reducing variables. The main idea of the concept is to deal with the measures of association of categorical variables in the sense of the concept of Pearson's correlation coefficient in order to meet the input requirement of FA. Upon examination of existing measures that could play as pseudo-correlation coefficients, Cramer's V coefficient is selected for the best result among them. To show the detailed procedure of the proposed method, a specific demonstration with the data from 329 R&D projects conducted in 18 private laboratories in electric and electronics industry is presented.

  • Similarity searching is a basic issue in information processing because of the large size of formal contexts and their complicated derivation operators. Recently, some researchers have focused on knowledge reduction methods by using granular computing. In this process, suitable information granules are vital to characterizing the quantities of attributes and objects. To address this problem, a novel approach to obtain an entropy-weighted concept lattice with inclusion degree and similarity distance (ECLisd) has been proposed. The approach aims to compute the combined weights by merging the inclusion degree and entropy degree between two concepts. In addition, another method is utilized to measure the hierarchical distance by considering the different degrees of importance of each attribute. Finally, the rationality of the ECLisd is validated via a comparative analysis.

  • In this study, an attempt is made to apply the concept of fuzzy-bayesian theory to the integrity assessment of RC highway bridge, and uncertainty states are represented in terms of fuzzy sets which define several linguistic variables such as "very good", "good", "average", "poor", "very poor", etc. Especially, the concept of fuzzy conditional probability aids to derive a new reliability analysis which includes the subjective assessment of engineers without introducing any additional correction factors. The fuzzy concept are also used as reliability indexes for the condition assessment based on the proposed models, the proposed fuzzy theory-based approach with the results of visual inspection and extensive field load tests are applied to the integrity assessment of a new RC highway bridge, namely, Jichok bridge.

  • This research investigates how interest develops across a set of tasks within a course defined by a specific knowledge domain. The current study examined the relationships among self-concept, self-efficacy, Korea-related factors, and evaluation, in the context of learning about the Hanbok costume at Chinese universities. A survey (n=300) was conducted using an online survey website (www.sojump.com) from the 1st to the 25th of June. The structural equation model (SEM) analysis, including total and specific forms of self-evaluation with Hanbok courses, showed that self-concept was positively associated with self-efficacy. Conversely, K-culture interest and K-country image did not significantly affect self-efficacy in clothing, but positively affected Hanbok's self-efficacy. Meanwhile, the more self-efficacy perceived, the higher the level of evaluation. Overall, our findings imply that supporting the students' Korean culture interest, country image perception, and self-concept for regulation can enhance self-evaluation and self-realization success. Theoretical and practical implications for Hanbok courses are discussed.

  • In this study, we propose trajectory-based arrival management using CDO (Continuos Descent Operations). The operational procedures with TBO (Trajectory-Based Operations) concept were established to allow aircraft and ground system to share the trajectories with each other in real time. The proposed operational concept was validated in the air traffic control simulation environment, which consists of controller working position, pseudo pilot system, air traffic generation system, and controllers' decision support system for arrival management using CDO. Simulation results compared with actual flight data indicate that proposed concept could improve the efficiency of traffic flow management in terms of total descending time and fuel consumption. And it was confirmed that if there is a system that can share and utilize the synchronized trajectory, it can be helpful to control arrival aircraft and apply CDO concept.

  • Rapidly changing healthcare environment and professional nursing practice need a strategy for the organizational development and goal attainment. An understanding of organizational culture could help managers enhance or expend their management strategy, thus increasing the probability of their success in the organization. On the other hand. organizational culture is an abstract concept and can show several views between sciences applying it. Therefore. organizational culture can be described to different ways with roots in each other discipline. Thus. it is necessary to define the concept of organizational culture in nursing perspective. This article reports a study conducted to analyze the concept of Nursing Service Organizational Culture. This study is performed by the guideline of Walker and Avant for concept analysis : selecting a concept. detering aim of analysis, identifying all use of concept. defining attributes. constructing model. contrary, borderline. related cases. identifying antecedents and consequences. According to the results of this study. the following definition attributes of Nursing Service Organizational Culture was suggested. We could define that nursing service organizational culture is the pattern of basic assumption and common belief that shared by the subordinates of nursing service. So, it provides a shared identity for all employees. Attributes of Nursing Service Organizational Culture were defined as (1) it is performed by the result of the interaction through formal. informal communication among nursing service organizational subordinations. (2) it has been performed unconsciously and reacts without ever thinking about the behavior. (3) it makes a unique pattern of behaviors to each nursing organization. which is different from other groups. (4) it has a broad and subtle forces to its subordinates. • The purpose of this study is to present types of design concept based on the specificity of landscape design, and to derive a theoretical framework for the landscape design concepts by analyzing the design concepts appearing in urban park design competitions. Through literature review, five types of landscape design concepts were categorized into value and vision, analysis and interpretation, form and structure, program and element, and process and operation. Using this framework, the design concepts shown in 96 works submitted to 18 domestic and overseas urban park design competitions were analyzed. The results of the analysis are summarized as follows. First, due to the complexity of contemporary urban parks, design concepts are presented as mixtures of main concepts and secondary concepts in multiple layers. Second, it was identified that design concepts of 'form and structure' were used the most in urban park designs, followed by the 'program and element' concepts. The 'value and vision' and 'analysis and interpretive' concepts are introduced as third and fourth. Third, the reason that the 'form and structure' concept is widely used as main and secondary concepts is judged to be because the form of a space, which is the key result of the design, has an important influence on the identity of the design. Fourth, the reason that the 'program and element' concept type is widely introduced is that urban park design has a stronger planning aspect to produce programs during the design process, compared with other design fields where programs are usually given in advance. Lastly, it is difficult to see that the properties of the site solely affect the type of design concept, because a design concept is the result of a complex and creative process in which a designer subjectively interprets the objective characteristics of the site and project, and given design guidelines can affect the type of design concept.

  • The purpose of the present study is to develop instrument of mathematical belief of middle school and high school students and to analysis results of test using the instrument. Based on the results of literature review, mathematical belief is the cumulative effects of self-assessment and self-concept in mathematical learning and achievement experience. Four sub-components of mathematical belief is identified belief of school mathematics, belief of mathematical problem solving, mathematical self-concept, belief of mathematical teaching and learning. The instrument was developed to investigate mathematical belief by reflecting Korean middle school and high school students' psychological characters. To develop the appropriate items for the mathematical belief, after reviewing literature thoroughly, first version of the instrument was developed and exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were conducted. Then, to reduce the effect of the gender difference and achievement level difference, Correlation Analysis and 1-way ANOVA was performed. Also, using multiple group confirmatory factor analysis, this instrument was investigated to see whether this can be used for both middle school and high school. The final items for middle school students is consisted 7 items of belief of school mathematics, 9 items of belief of mathematical problem solving, 11 items of mathematical self-concept, 10 items of belief of mathematical teaching and learning. Instrument of mathematical belief for high school students is consisted 9 items of belief of school mathematics, 9 items of belief of mathematical problem solving, 11 items of mathematical self-concept, 11 items of belief of mathematical teaching and learning. This study examined the differences about mathematical belief's sub-factors shown by three groups of mathematics achievement level. Students of higher achievement level showed that the degree of most factors ware the highest excepting stereotype of belief of school mathematics. Also, Male students preferred more positive in mathematics belief than female students.

  • The human spatial mobility information is in high demand in various businesses; however, there are only few studies on human mobility because spatio-temporal data is insufficient and difficult to collect. Now with the spread of smartphones and the advent of social networking services, the spatio-temporal data began to occur on a large scale, and the data is available to the public. In this work, we compared the movement behavior of residents and tourists by using geo-tagged tweets which contain location information. We chose Seoul to be the target area for analysis. Various creative concepts and analytical methods are used: grid map concept, cells visited concept, reverse geocoding concept, average activity index, spatial mobility index, and determination of residents and visitors based on the number of days in residence. Conducting a series of analysis, we found significant differences of the movement behavior between local residents and tourists. We also discovered differences in visiting activity according to residential countries and used applications. We expect that findings of this research can provide useful information on tourist development and urban development.
