The alternative refrigerant R436B is applied, to assess the application feasibility for a commercial cooling water system. The characteristic stability was verified by Sealed glass tube test and Autoclave test. R436B is chemically stable with the compressor material. The Oil miscibility test shows the usual compressor oil mixed well with R436B. Through the life acceleration test, the cooling performance is maintained. Though slight changes in oil and capillary tube diameter were found, they were within the permitted range. R436B should be applied to commercial cooling water systems as a simple replacement for the usual refrigerant.
The oil trap in oil separator is one of the most important characteristics for normal operation of compressor. In this study, oil separation characteristics has been investigated for $CO_2$/PAG mixture using a gravity type of oil separator. The experimental study has been carried out in the range of oil concentration 0 to 5 weight-percent and the mixture temperature range of $0^{\circ}C$ to $15^{\circ}C$. The results obtained indicate that oil separation ratio in oil separator is increased with an increase in the oil concentration and mixture temperature.

The mathematical modelling of screw compressor processes and its implementation in their design began about 30 years ago with the publication of several pioneering papers on this topic, mainly at Purdue Compressor Conferences. This led to the gradual introduction of computer aided design, which, in turn, resulted in huge improvements in these machines, especially in oil-flooded air compressors, where the market is very competitive. A review of progress in such methods is presented in this paper together with their application in successful compressor designs. As a result of their introduction, even small details are now considered significant in efforts to improve performance and reduce costs. Despite this, there are still possibilities to introduce new methods and procedures for improved rotor profiles, design optimisation for each specified duty and specialized compressor design, all of which can lead to a better product and new areas of application. A review of methods and procedures which lead to modern screw compressor practice is presented in this paper. This paper is intended to give a cross section through activities being done in mathematical modelling of screw compressor process through last five decades. It is expected to serve as a basis for further contributions in the area and as a challenge to the forthcoming generations of scientists and engineers to concentrate their efforts in finding future and more extended approaches and submit their contributions.

In this paper, a study on the dynamic behavior and lubrication characteristics of a reciprocating compression mechanism used in small refrigeration compressor is performed. In the problem formulation of the compressor dynamics, the viscous frictional force between piston and cylinder wall is considered in order to determine the coupled dynamic behaviors of piston and crankshaft. The solutions of the equations of motion of the reciprocating mechanism along with the time dependent Reynolds equations for the lubricating film between piston and cylinder wall and oil films of the journal bearings are obtained simultaneously. The hydrodynamic forces of journal bearings are calculated using finite bearing model and Gumbel boundary condition. And, a Newton-Raphson procedure was employed in solving the nonlinear equations of piston and crankshaft. The results explored the effects of design parameters on the stability and lubrication characteristics of the compression mechanism.

The oil circulation rate (OCR) of the rotary compressor is a crucial factor affecting the performance and reliability of air-conditioning systems. In this paper, topology optimization of the single-phase induction motor of rotary compressor is carried out for reducing the OCR. The nonlinear transient characteristic of single-phase induction motor for rotary compressor is analyzed by using FLUX2D. The topology optimization for electromagnetic systems is developed using the finite element method (FEM). The topology optimization is applied to a single-phase induction motor for reducing the OCR. For validation, optimize induction motors are manufactured and tested.
The life of oilless bearing affects the durability of scroll compressor. The main shaft of the scroll compressor is supported by oiiless bearing. Some of the major parameters which influence the life of oilless bearing are rotational speed, normal load, environment of refrigerant and oil film thickness. The reliability evaluation of oiiless bearing is performed through the acceleration life test for reduction of experimental time and costs. In this study, the experimental and computational investigations were performed to verify the effects of various parameters on the life of oilless bearing. The acceleration factor was achieved with the lubrication analysis between the scroll compressor and the developed reliability tester. the expected life of oilless bearing was guaranteed by reliability evaluation accompanied with the acceleration life test.

Performance of refrigerant oil at the thrust-bearing and at the journal-bearing of a scroll compressor is a significant factor. This paper presents the friction and anti-wear characteristics of nano oil with a mixture of a refrigerant oil and carbon nano particles in the journal bearing of scroll compressors. The characteristics of friction and anti-wear using nano-oil is evaluated using the disk on disk tester and the journal bearing tester for measuring friction surface temperature and the coefficient of friction at the journal bearing tester. In journal bearing test, the average friction coefficient of high concentration nano-oil was decreased down to 18% compared to raw oil under 4,500 N and 3,600 rpm. It is believed that nano particles can be coated on the wear surfaces and the interaction of nano particles between surfaces can be improved the lubrication in the friction surfaces. Worn surfaces of frictional specimen were measured with straightness. carbon nano oil enhances the characteristics of the anti-wear and friction at the joural bearing of scroll compressors.

It is important to investigate characteristics of flow of refrigerant/oil mixture circulating in a refrigeration system. Therefore the oil concentration in refrigerant/oil mixture should be measured exactly by the adequate measuring instrument. In this paper, the oil concentration was measured by density monitoring system(DMS) in the liquid-line of a inverter-driven heat pump. Experimental result follows ; the main factor that have an effect on oil concentration refrigerant/oil mixture circulating in a refrigeration system is the momentum and kinematic viscosity of refrigerant/oil mixture compressed by scroll compressor.

Piston-cylinder system are widely used in power engineering applications. In reciprocating refrigeration compressors, where extremely low friction losses are required, ringless pistons are being used to diminish the friction between piston rings and cylinder wall. Since the ringless piston has the freedom of lateral motion there is a potential danger that it will occasionally hit the cylinder wall while moving up and down along it's axis. A good design must therefore provide a smooth and stable reciprocating motion of the piston and ensure that the fluid film separating the piston from the cylinder wall is maintained all times. And the compromise between refrigerant gas leakage through the piston-cylinder clearance and the friction losses is required utilizing a dynamic analysis of the secondary motion for the high efficiency compressor. To this end, the computer program is developed for calculating the entire piston trajectory and the lubrication characteristics as functions of crank angle under compressor running conditions. The results explored the effects of some design parameters and operating conditions on the stability of the piston, the oil leakage, and friction losses.
Oil flow pass of hermetic scroll compressor with back pressure chamber was described. Dynamic analysis was preceded in order to obtain the loads on the lubricating contacts. The mobility method of dynamically loaded journal bearings was applied to the crank jornal bearing and lower main bearing, and they could be designed to operate under fluid film lubrication. From the consideration of their film thicknesses and oil flow rates, optimal bearing clearances or other bearing dimensions could be assessed. The major friction loss was calculated to be from the axial force between the two scrolls. Therefore, it was suggested that the designers should be careful to reduce the over-turning moment on the orbiting scroll.
