  • The US National Science Foundation's National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) is a continental-scale program intended to provide open data, samples, and infrastructure to understand changing ecosystems for a period of 30 years. NEON collects co-located measurements of drivers of environmental change and biological responses, using standardized methods at 81 field sites to systematically sample variability and trends to enable inferences at regional to continental scales. Alongside key atmospheric and environmental variables, NEON measures the biodiversity of many taxa, including microbes, plants, and animals, and collects samples from these organisms for long-term archiving and research use. Here we review the composition and use of NEON resources to date as a whole and specific to biodiversity as an exemplar of the potential of national research infrastructure to contribute to globally relevant outcomes. Since NEON initiated full operations in 2019, NEON has produced, on average, 1.4 M records and over 32 TB of data per year across more than 180 data products, with 85 products that include taxonomic or other organismal information relevant to biodiversity science. NEON has also collected and curated more than 503,000 samples and specimens spanning all taxonomic domains of life, with up to 100,000 more to be added annually. Various metrics of use, including web portal visitation, data download and sample use requests, and scientific publications, reveal substantial interest from the global community in NEON. More than 47,000 unique IP addresses from around the world visit NEON's web portals each month, requesting on average 1.8 TB of data, and over 200 researchers have engaged in sample use requests from the NEON Biorepository. Through its many global partnerships, particularly with the Global Biodiversity Information Facility, NEON resources have been used in more than 900 scientific publications to date, with many using biodiversity data and samples. These outcomes demonstrate that the data and samples provided by NEON, situated in a broader network of national research infrastructures, are critical to scientists, conservation practitioners, and policy makers. They enable effective approaches to meeting global targets, such as those captured in the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of sowing time on the bio-active content of major soybean cultivars in a southern region of South Korea. Experiments were carried out in Naju, Jeonnam Province (latitude $35^{\circ}$ 04'N, longitude $126^{\circ}$ 54'E) from 2008 to 2010. The cultivars grown in summer included Saeol-kong and Tawon-kong and those grown in autumn included Taekwang-kong, Pungsannamul-kong, and Cheongja3, respectively. Sowing dates were May 15 and 30, June 15 and 30, and July 15 of each year. Daidzein content was increased in all the test cultivars grown from later sowing, and the contents of genistein and total isoflavone were increased in all the test cultivars except for Cheongja3. On the other hand, glycitein content showed no significant change in any of the test cultivars across the 5 sowing dates except for Tawon-kong. Cyanidin-3-glucoside (C3G) content was significantly increased in Tawon-kong and Cheongja3, and delphinidin-3-glucoside (D3G) and total anthocyanin contents were significantly increased in Tawon-kong. However, pelargonidin-3-glucoside (Pg3G) and petunidin-3-glucoside (Pt3G) contents showed no significant difference in plants sown across the 5 dates. Lutein content in Cheongja3 was between 2.7 and $3.0{\mu}g/g$ based on sowing date and did not vary significantly, while chlorophyll content increased with later sowing and was significantly higher in the cultivars sown on June 30 and July 15. Crude fat content was higher in Taekwang-kong and Cheongja3 when the cultivars were sown earlier; crude fat did not vary in the other test cultivars based on sowing date. Palmitic acid composition was not affected by sowing date in most of the test cultivars. Stearic acid was increased in Saeol-kong, Tawon-kong, and Cheongja3 with later sowing. Oleic acid and linoleic acid were significantly higher in Saeol-kong at an earlier sowing date. The composition of linolenic acid showed significantly increased dates in most of the test cultivars with later sowing. There were no significant differences in carbohydrate and crude protein content across 5 different sowing dates in most of the test cultivars. However, crude protein content was higher in Saeol-kong when sowing occurred earlier, and was higher in Tawon-kong at later sowing dates.

  • As the world progresses towards a global society as time goes by, it is a natural reality that interpreting the fortunes of people born in foreign countries will inevitably increase in the future. If the time of birth is different, a big problem arises in the theory of MyungLiollgy. Therefore, this researcher decides whether to use the local standard time of the country of birth or convert it to the Korean time zone when a foreign-born person writes four weeks, because the position of the sun determines the time and date, so the local standard time It was concluded that it was appropriate to use it, and to support the discussion on the correction of true solar time in Eastern and Western countries, we carefully selected major countries and major cities where the time difference between the currently used national standard time and the true solar time according to the actual longitude line was expected, and the results were presented. was calculated and derived. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that the time difference between the national standard time and the true solar time is much greater than the general idea. On the other hand, through the case of actual foreign-born people, it was possible to find out the great influence of summer time on the composition of the sandbar, in addition to the influence of the exact time difference on the birth date and cutting time. Through the results of this study, it is thought that we have laid the systematic foundation of the myo-logical theory on the correction of true solar time in Eastern and Western countries for the simplicity of the four weeks of foreign-born people, and this will serve as an opportunity to reduce confusion about the method of simplifying the four weeks of foreign-born people. It is assumed that it will be possible.

  • The bryophyte communities on the forest floor of the mixed coniferous and deciduous broad-leaved forest of cool temperate zone on Deongnyusan(1,616m) south-eastern part of the Korean Penninsula were investigated from the phytosociological viewpoint. As a result, a bryophyte community was recognized, considering the phytosociological unit of the forest: Sasamorpha borealis-Abies koreana / Hylocomiopsis ovicarpa-Thamnoblyum alopecurum community. This community was interpreted as a counterpart one of the Sasamorpha borealis-Abies koreana / Dicranum scoparium-Plagiothecium silvaticum community in the Jiri Mountains, but between the two communities, the species composition was somewhat different. The bryophyte community on the forest floor on Deongnyusan was confirmed as a synusie belonging to the Fraxino-Abietetum koreanae Song 1988. Up to date many investigators have described the coniferous forest distributed above 1,400m on Deongnysan as the forest vegetation of subarctic(=subalpine) zone. However, from the results of the present study, the forest vegetation, a mixed forest, was elucidated to be one of cool temperate zone. Species diversity of the terri-colous bryophyte community on Deongnyusan was very close to that of the communities of the similar type in the Jiri Mountains. The taxa of the bryophyte community was composed of 19 families,25 genera and 38 species.

  • To secure raw materials of biodiesel production, the possibility of camellia (C. japonica L.) and tea (C. sinensis L.) seed oil was studied to produce biodiesel. In this research, crude oil contents and fatty acid compositions of seeds were analyzed by Solxlet and Gas chromatography (GC). The oil contents in the seeds of camellia were 69.8%~73.8%, and tea were 26.3%~29.4%. Among the fatty acids of camellia and tea oil, oleic acid was dominant. The unsaturated fatty acids accounted for 88.4% and 80.2% of the whole fatty acids of camellia and tea seed oil. Total seed oil content and fatty acid composition of tea seed were influenced by collecting date. Across maturation period, oil content of tea seed averaged 18.3% on $6^{th}$ September increasing to 27.9% by $11^{th}$ October. For largest seed yield and oil content, the optimum time to harvest tea is in middle october, and camellia is late september and thereafter. The extraction efficiency of oil from seeds by extraction methods was determined. Biodiesel were synthesized in 92.1~92.8% yields from camellia and tea oils by transesterification. The biodiesel was characterized by its physical and fuel properties including oxidation stability, iodine value and cold filter plugging point (CFPP). Oxidation stability of camellia was 8.6~8.8 hours and tea was 2.9~3.6 at $110^{\circ}C$. Camellia oil had considerably better oxidation stability and CFPP than tea oil.

  • Objective: The aim of this experiment was to evaluate the effect of dietary supplementation with the docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)-rich microalgae, Aurantiochytrium limacinum (AURA) on pig performance, carcass traits, and the fatty acid composition of pork Longissimus lumborum (LL) and backfat. Methods: A total of 144 Pig Improvement Company (PIC)${\times}$Goland finishing pigs (72 females and 72 castrated males) of mean weight 117.1 (${\pm}13.1$) kg were blocked by sex and body weight and provided with 0% or 1% AURA in isonutritive and isocaloric diets. A total of 24 pens provided 12 replicates per treatment. Animals were weighed on day 0 and 28 with feed and water intake recorded per pen. After 31 days supplementation (28 days of study and 3 days until the slaughtering date) three animals per pen (n = 72) were slaughtered and the LL and backfat thickness, lean meat content and dressing percentage were recorded for the carcasses. The fatty acid (FA) profile of the LL and backfat was established by direct FA methyl ester synthesis. Results: No differences were observed for any performance parameters or carcass traits. Supplementation with AURA resulted in significant changes to the FA profiles of both the LL and backfat with male and female pigs responding differently to supplementation in terms of particular FAs. Overall, pork LL samples had significantly higher eicosapentaenoic acid (p<0.001) and DHA concentrations (p<0.001), and higher omega-3 (n-3) FAs (p<0.001), as well as an increased omega3:omega6 (n-3:n-6) ratio (p = 0.001). For backfat, supplementation resulted in significantly higher amounts of DHA (p<0.001) and n-3 FAs (p<0.001). Conclusion: These results indicate that dietary supplementation with 1% AURA over a 31 day period can increase the FA composition of pork LL and backfat, specifically the DHA, with no major impact on growth performance and carcass traits.

  • Exhibition space emphasizes the experience in the space rather than viewing or appreciation of visitors. Because the experience spaces in today's life are limited, people experience rest, comfort, and sometimes extraordinary space experience through exhibition space. Exhibition space has changed from a static place to a space where visitors move and act with the exhibits to freely feel the space. Also, the static space expressed only with illumination and shadow becomes a new space different from daily space for users. This study analyzes the characteristics of phenomenological expression through such user-oriented exhibition space. This study is to analyze the characteristics of phenomenology through the exhibition experience space structure. It is to analyze and study on the characteristics of phenomenological expression of the exhibition experience space structure centered in the opinion of Merlo-Ponti that considers the experience of body among 'characteristics' discussed based on the study of the phenomenological experience published up to date and the viewpoint of Steven Hall that sees light as a subject of creating the space. This study is also considers how the perception of the experiencer is built in the correlation between the phenomenology and exhibition experience space by studying the relationship of the experiencer that is the common point of the exhibition experience space structure and the characteristics of phenomenological expression and analyzing the common point and difference of them. It also focuses on the space of dark whether forming any light rather than looking at the light which is the sense factor among the characteristics of phenomenological expressions. Thus, the purpose of this study is to analyze the case on whether there is any light or not applied to the exhibition experience space grounded by the theoretical materials of Merlo-Ponti and Steven Hall based on the characteristics of phenomenological expressions in the exhibition experience space structure and, based on the result, to set up the basics on the characteristics of phenomenological expressions in the composition of exhibition experience space.

  • Transcribed Buddhist sutras generally consist of a frontispiece illustration, sutra illustrations, and sutra text, although some parts may be lost over time. Most transcribed sutras originally include an official record of the transcription (saseonggi) at either the beginning or end of the volume, which document various details of the production, including who commissioned the sutra and when it was transcribed. If such records are unavailable or difficult to decipher, the date of the sutra can only be estimated by comparison to other works with known production dates. This is the case with Korean Treasure #978, the "Transcription of the Avatamsaka Sutra (Zhou Version) in Gold on White Paper" (hereinafter, "Avatamsaka Sutra, Volume 29"), which does not contain any details of its production. Based on formal comparisons, the volume has been estimated to date from the early Joseon period. Important criteria for estimating the production date include the type of calligraphy script and the overall expression of the sutra illustrations. However, these features are missing from some early Joseon sutras, making it difficult to definitively assert which characteristics are representative of the period. Also, transcribed sutras from the late Goryeo period (after 1350) and early Joseon period are often very similar in terms of the expression of the frontispiece illustrations and sutra illustrations. From the late Goryeo period through the early Joseon period, the illustrations of transcribed sutras, which had previously been relatively detailed and realistic, gradually became more formalized and stylized. Significantly, Avatamsaka Sutra, Volume 29 includes illustrations showing both styles of expression (i.e., realistic and formalized). Moreover, the hemp leaf design on the frontispiece and the border around the sutra illustrations are unique features that have never been seen on any other transcribed sutras. Notably, however, Avatamsaka Sutra in Gold on White Paper, Volume 26 (hereinafter, "Avatamsaka Sutra, Volume 26"), which has not yet been introduced in academic research, is complete with frontispiece, sutra illustrations, and sutra text. This sutra is identical to Avatamsaka Sutra, Volume 29 in size, composition, and details, and is thus estimated to have been produced at the same time and by the same patrons. According to the record at the end of the volume, Avatamsaka Sutra, Volume 26 was commissioned in 1348 by Gi Cheol (d. 1365), which corresponds to the estimated date of Avatamsaka Sutra, Volume 29 derived by formal comparison. Based on this new information, Avatamsaka Sutra, Volume 29 was likely produced in the late Goryeo period rather than the early Joseon period, as has previously been presumed. The new study of Avatamsaka Sutra, Volume 26 also seems to confirm that both sutras were transcribed by highly skilled artisans in 1348 of the late Goryeo period, a transitional phase in the expression of sutra illustrations.

  • Atomic layer deposition (ALD)have been proven to be a very attractive technique for the fabrication of advanced gate dielectrics and DRAM insulators due to excellent conformality and precise control of film thickness and composition, However, one major disadvantages of ALD is its relatively low deposition rate (throughput) because the deposition rate is typically limited by the time required for purging process between the introduction of precursors. In order to improve its throughput, many efforts have been made by commercial companies, for example, the modification reactor and development of precursors. However, any promising solution has not reported to date. We developed a new concept ALD system(Lucida TM S200) with high-throughput. In this process, a continuous flow of ALD precursor and purging gas are simultaneously introduced from different locations in the ALD reactor. A cyclic ALD process is carried out by moving the wafer holder up and down. Therefore, the time required for ALD reaction cycle is determined by speed of the wafer holder and vapor pressure of precursors. We will present the operating principle of our system and results of deposition.

  • In fact, rice cultivation technique from 1962 to 1970 was very slight, but this technique from 1970 to now was remarkably developed in Korea, it was due to development of high fretilizer responsive and lodging resistant variety, Tongil; ie. Ind. ${\times}$ Japonica remote-cross rice variety. The main factors of this development is as follow: Firstly the most farmer (more than 90%) used newly developed seedling growth method; polyethylene film covered protected nursery bed. Secondly date of transplanting (middle or late part. of May) was earlier 10-15days than before 1970. Thirdly new varieties were highly lodging resistant at high fertilizer level $(N-P_2O_5-K_2O:15-9-11 kg/l0a)$. However, this level is 50% increased one than it for Japonica varieties. At forth planting density increased up to 75-80 hills per $3.3m^2$. Added to these factors, farm labor shortage and wage increase due to economic development gave a chance for introduction of transplanting machine to farmer in 1977. It's use increased for 100, 800 ha in 1981. The most of farmers are using herbicides and weed control system dependoing on wood composition has been established and disseminated to farmer.
