Behavior of PMMA Powder in Formation of $Al_2O_3$-PMMA Composite Thick Films Aerosol Deposition Method (에어로졸데포지션법을 이용한 $Al_2O_3$-PMMA 복합체 후막의 형성에 있어 PMMA 파우더의 거동)

  • 에어로졸데포지션법을 이용하여 집적화 기판을 위한 $Al_2O_3$-PMMA 복합체 후막을 상온에서 구리 기판 위 에 제조하였다. XRD, FT-IR 분석을 통해 코팅된 막은 $Al_2O_3$와 PMMA의 혼합물로 존재함을 확인하였으며 성막 중 $Al_2O_3$. PMMA의 상호작용과 PMMA 파우더의 거동에 대한 분석을 통해 $Al_2O_3$-PMMA 복할체 후막의 성막 양상을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 기판 거칠기에 따라 초기 계면의 양상이 달라질 수 있음을 확인하였고 이러한 초기 계면의 상태가 $Al_2O_3$-PMMA 복합체 후막의 제조에 있어 매우 중요함을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구에서는 에어로졸데포지션법을 이용한 $Al_2O_3$-PMMA 복합체 후막의 성막 양상을 통해 세라믹-폴리머 복합체의 제조에 있어서의 주요 변수들을 알아보고 $Al_2O_3$-PMMA 복합체 후막의 전기적인 특성을 확인하였다.

Infiltration of the Cu-Ti Alloys to Porous $Al_2O_3$ Ceramic Coating (Cu-Ti합금의 침투에 의한 $Al_2O_3$ 세라믹 용사층의 복합화)

  • Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$ ceramic coating layer by gas flame spraying was very porous, therefore it could not have wear and corrosion resistance at all. To get a dense and strong coating layer, a method to infiltrate an alloy into the pores of $Al_{2}$O$_{3}$ ceramic coating was investigated. Cu-Ti alloys, which had good wettability and reactivity with $Al_{2}$O$_{3}$ ceramic, were examined for infiltration. Infiltration of the alloys was performed in vacuum at 1100.deg.C. The melt of Cu-50 at % Ti alloy was well penetrated through the porous $Al_{2}$O$_{3}$ coating and tightly sealed the pores, unbounded area and microcracks in the coating. The alloy melt in the pores reacted with $Al_{2}$O$_{3}$ ceramic to produce a suboxide phase, Cu$_{2}$Ti$_{4}$O. This composite layer which was composed of $Al_{2}$O$_{3}$ and Cu$_{2}$Ti$_{4}$O phase had good microstructure and wear and corrosion resistance. Additionally, microstructures at interfaces between coating layers were greatly improved owing to the effect of vacuum heat treating.

  • Glasses of $SiO_2-B_{2}O_3-Al_{2}O_3-CaO-La_{2}O_3$ with various amounts of $La_{2}O_3$ were infiltrated into a porous alumina to make an alumina-glass composite. The infiltration characterization and bending strength of the composite were examined in terms of glass composition. $La_{2}O_3$ in the glass decreased the high temperature viscosity and this enhanced the wetting behaviour of this glass to alumina, and made glass infiltration easier. The infiltrated glass dissolved the alumina skeleton, and $Al_{2}O_3$ component in the glass melt reprecipitated on the alumina. The grain growth occurred to a specific crystal direction. The glass containing $20mole\%$ of $La_{2}O_3$ was crystallized after infiltration, and this enhanced the bending strength of the composite.

  • High reaction heat evolved from the oxidation of Al was used to synthesize SiC, which might be difficult to be formed by SHS. Al2O3-SiC composite powder was easily manufactured using KNO3 as an ignition and reaction catalyst. Unreacted Si and C were observed after reaction dependent upon the composition of starting powders, reaction atmosphere and relative densities of compacted bodies. The unreacted carbon could be removed by calcining at $600^{\circ}C$ and the remaining Si could be removed by dissolving in NaOH solution. The final powder particles were smaller than 1${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in size.

  • Both an unreinforced $Al_2O_3$/Al matrix and a ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ particulate reinforced composite have been produced by the oxidation of an Al surface doped with NaOH in the absence of any other dopant. Fabrication of the matrix was initiated by the formation of $NaAlO_2$, which provides a favorable surface structure for the matrix formation by breaking the protective $Al_2O_3$ layer on Al. During the matrix growth, the external surface of the growth front was covered with a very thin sodium-rich oxide. A cyclic formation process of the sodium-rich oxide on the growth surface was proposed for the sodium-induced directed metal oxidation process. This process involves dissolution of the sodium-rich oxide, motion of Na to the growth front, and re-formation of the oxide on the surface. Near-net-shape composites were fabricated by infiltrating an $Al_2O_3$/Al matrix into a ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ particulate preform, without growth barrier materials. The infiltration distance increased almost linearly in the NaOH-doped preform.

  • ZrO2/Al2O3-Mullite composites were prepared by infiltration of the silica sol to the porous ZrO2/Al2O3 bodies. The porous ZrO2/Al2O3 bodies for infiltration were fabricated using ZrO2 (20wt%)/Al2O3 composite powders synthesized by the emulsion-hot kerosene drying method. The preparation of silica sols was conducted by the hydrolysis-peptization of an alcoholic TEOS solution. When ZrO2/Al2O3-Mullite and ZrO2/Al2O3 composites were sintered at 1$650^{\circ}C$ for 4 hrs, both of them showed an excellent sinterability. As the amount of mullite added in the composites increased, the ratio of the tetragonal phase of zirconia to the monoclinic phase at the room temperature became higher. It was known that values of the fracture toughness of the ZrO2/Al2O3-Mullite composites were about 5.48 MPa.m1/2 much larger than that of the ZrO2/Al2O3 system.

  • A crack-free ceramic composite membrane with micropores has been synthesized by the pressurized sol-gel coating technique using the mixed Al2O3-SiO2 sols. The mixed sols were prepared by mixing nanoparticulate SiO2 and boehmite sols. These sols were more stable at lower pH, but very unstable when their copositions were in the range of 50~75mol% of SiO2 at the same pH. The mixed Al2O3-SiO2 membrane prepared from the mixed sol (0.2mol/$\ell$ of solid content and pH=2) containing 40mol% of SiO2 had the mean pore radius of 0.80nm and the specific surface area of 280$m^2$/g. The nitrogen permeability through the coated Al2O3-SiO2 layer was 42$\times$107mol/$m^2$.s.Pa. It was found that the thermal stability of aluminosilicate membranes, even through similar to that of SiO2 membranes, was much improved in comparison with ${\gamma}$-alumina membranes.

  • Nanopowders of $Co_3O_4$ and FeAl were fabricated by high energy ball milling. Dense 4.25 $Co_{0.53}Fe_{0.47}-Al_2O_3$ composite was simultaneously synthesized and consolidated by high frequency induction heated combustion method within 2 min from mechanically activated powders. Consolidation was accomplished under the combined effects of a induced current and mechanical pressure of 80 MPa.

  • Plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) treatment was performed on squeeze cast AZ31 alloy and $Al_{18}B_4O_{33}w/AZ31$ composite. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) was employed to characterize the surface morphology and cross-section microstructure of the coating. The phase structures of the PEO coating were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The corrosion resistance of the PEO coating was evaluated by electrochemical method. The results showed that the $Al_{18}B_4O_{33}$ whisker on the surface of the composite was decomposed and $MgAl_2O_4$ was formed in the PEO coating layer of $Al_{18}B_4O_{33}w/AZ31$ composite during PEO treatment. As a result, the electrochemical corrosion potential of the PEO coated $Al_{18}B_4O_{33}w/AZ31$ composite was increased compared with that of AZ31 alloy.

  • Particle reinforced metal matrix composites(MMCs) via a centrifugal spray-cast deposition(CSD) process were fabricated by injecting second phase particles($Al_2O_3$<40${\mu}m$, W<17.3${\mu}m$) into copper melt on the atomizing disc. Compositing modes were investigated by combining microstructures and mathematical modeling between Cu droplets and the reinforced particles injected. The $Cu/W_P$ powders were shown that the W particles penetrate and get embedded in the Cu droplets. It is considered that the W particles composite preferentially in Cu melt on the atomizing disc. On the other hand, the $Al_2O_3$, particles did not penetrate into the Cu droplets on the atomizing disc but get attached in surface of Cu droplets during the flight. It is considered that the compositing may be attained in the flight distance which the relative velocity between Cu droplet and $Al_2O_3$, particle is maximum. The microstructure of the $Cu/W_P$ and the $Cu/(Al_2O_3)_p$ composite preform was strongly influenced by compositing modes of droplets, and after subsequent deposition it was comprised as it is called the dispersed type and the cell type of microstructure, respectively.
