  • Matrix dominant properties of composites are largely degraded under harmful environments such as temperature and humidity. Therefore we should consider the harmful environmental factors in the design of an UAV integral fuel tank subjected to high temperature and high humidity. The harmful environment experiment was performed for carbon/epoxy composites made of a unidirectional prepreg USN175B, and a plain woven fabric prepreg WSN3. The immersion experiment was performed under $90^{\circ}C$. The specimens were tested when the weight gam of specimen was saturated. The specimens were tested under $74^{\circ}C$ to obtain tensile and inplane shear properties. The results showed that the matrix dominant properties were extremely degraded by hygrothermal environment. To consider the variability of load, the anti-optimization method was applied. By using this method, the worst load case was found by comparing the load convex model and stability boundary. The stability boundary was obtained by analysis of the integral wing fuel tank of UAV using degraded properties. To do this, it was known that the worst load case of the integral wing fuel tank was the hovering mode load case.

  • The enhancement of the service life of damaged or cracked structures is a major issue for researchers and engineers. The hierarchic void element based on the integrals of Legendre polynomials is used to characterize the fracture behaviour of unpatched crack as well as repaired crack with bonded composite patches by computing the stress intensity factors and stress contours at the crack tip. Since the equivalent single layer approach is adopted in this study, the proposed element is necessary to represent a discontinuous crack part as a continuum body with zero stiffness. Thus the aspect ratio of this element to represent the crack should be extremely slender. The sensitivity of numerical solution with respect to energy release rate, displacement and stress has been tested to show the robustness of zero stiffness element as the aspect ratio is increased up to 2000. The stiffness derivative method and displacement extrapolation method have been applied to calculate the stress intensity factors of Mode I problem. It is noted that the proposed hierarchical void element can be one of alternatives to analyze the patched crack problems.

  • AASHTO LRFD and Korean Bridge Design Code (Limit State Design) specify to consider Truck and Lane load simultaneously determined from reliability-based live load model, and impact shall be applied to the truck load while it shall not be applied to the lane load. In this paper, vehicle-bridge interaction analysis under moving truck and lane loads were performed to estimate impact factor of the cables and girders for the selected multi-cable-stayed composite bridges with 230m, 400m and 540m main span. A 6-d.o.f. vehicle was used for truck load and a series of single-axle vehicles was applied to simulate equivalent lane load. The effect of damping ratio on the impact factor was estimated and then the essential parameters to impact factor, i.e., road surface roughness and vehicle speed were considered. The road surface roughness was randomly generated based on ISO 8608 and it was applied to the truck load only in the vehicle-bridge interaction analysis. The impact factors evaluated from dynamic interaction analysis were also compared with those by the influence line method that is currently used in design practice to estimate impact factor in cable-stayed bridge.

  • Restorative procedures can lead to weakening tooth due to reduction and alteration of tooth structure. It is essential to prevent fractures to conserve tooth. The resistance to fracture of the restored tooth may be influenced by many factors, among these are the cavity dimension and the physical properties of the restorative material. The placement of direct composite resin restorations has generally been found to have a strengthening effect on the prepared teeth. It is the purpose of this investigation to study the relationship between the cavity isthmus and the fracture resistance of a tooth in composite resin restorations. In this study, MO cavity was prepared on maxillary first premolar. Three dimensional finite element models were made by serial photographic method and isthmus(1/4, 1/3, 1/2 of intercuspal distance) were varied. Two types of model(B and R model) were developed. B model was assumed perfect bonding between the restoration and cavity wall and R model was left unfilled. A load of 500N was applied vertically at the first node from the lingual slope of the buccal cusp tip. This study analysed the displacement, 1 and 2 direction normal stress and strain with FEM software ABAQUS Version 5.2 and hardware IRIS 4D/310 VGX Work-station. The results were as follows : 1. Displacement of buccal cusp in R model occurred and increased as widening of the cavity, and displacement in B model was little and not influenced by cavity width. 2. There was a significant decrease of stress resulting in increase of fracture resistance in B model when compared with R model. 3. With the increase of the isthmus width, B model showed no change in the stress and strain. In R model, the stress and strain increased both in the area of buccal-pulpal line angle and the buccal side of marginal ridge, therefore the possibility of crack increased. 4. The stress and strain were distributed evenly on the tooth in B model, but in R model, were concentrated on the buccal side of the distal marginal ridge and buccal-pulpal line angle, therefore the possibility of fracture increased.

  • Nano sized ZnO particle as 20-30nm applies for material, pigments, rubber additives, gas sensors, varistors, fluorescent substance as well as new material such as photo-catalyst, sensitizer, fluorescent material. ZnO with a particle size in the range 20-30nm has provided to be an excellent UV blocking material in the cosmetics industry, which can be used in sunscreen product to enhance the sun protection factor and natural makeup effect. But pure ZnO particles application limits for getting worse wearing feeling. We make high-functional inorganic-composite that coated with nano-ZnO on the plate-type particle such as sericite, boron nitride and bismuthoxychloride. In this experiment, we synthesized composite powder using hydrothermal precipitation method. The starting material was ZnCl$_2$ Precipitation materials were used hexamethylenetetramine(HMT) and urea. We make an experiment with changing as synthesis factors that are concentrations of starting material, precipitation materials, nuclear formation material, reaction time, and reaction temperature. We analyzed composite powder's shape, crystallization and UV-blocking ability with FE-SEM, XRD, FT-IR, TGA-DTA, In vitro SPF test. The user test was conducted by product's formulator. In the results of this study, nanometer sized ZnD was coated regardless of the type of plate-powder at fixed condition range. When the coated plate-powders were applied in pressed powder product, the glaze of powder itself decreased, but natural make-up effect, spreadability, and adhesionability were increased.

  • The study on the thermal and oil resistance rubber composite, 2016. [6] predicted the lifetime of Fluorocarbon Rubber by accelerating aging at high temperature ($150^{\circ}C$, $175^{\circ}C$, $200^{\circ}C$). general rubber products are likely to exhibit different properties depending on the degradation factors such as temperature, humidity, ozone, light, emulsion, mechanical and electrical stress. To solve these problems, We compared the rate of change about tensile strength, elongation rate, volume change rate, weight change rate, thickness change rate, thermal conductivity in low temperature promoting aging on the basis of predictive lifetime of high temperature promoting aging. As a result of the review, the required life expectancy was satisfied, but there was a slight difference in the rate of change between the high-temperature promoted aging life result and the low temperature promoted aging life result. The cause was a reduction in "tensile strength / elongation" and an increase in "volume / weight / thickness" caused by the main chain decomposition of fluorine rubber due to aging at high temperature promoting aging. However, the low temperature promoting aging was caused by the curing reaction of fluorine rubber at $80^{\circ}C$. The tensile strength / elongation and volume / weight / thickness changes were small.

  • To investigate the optimal operation factors in appling Soil Flushing Process, which use EDTA and boric acid composite as a flushing reagent, to the Cd(cadmium) and Cr(chromium) contaminated sites, Cd and Cr emediation rate was investigated at various experimental conditions; as EDTA concentration was increased from 0.001M to 0.1M, Cd remediation rate was increased from $73.2\%\;to\;98.5\%$; as boric acid concentration was increased from 0.001M to 0.1M, Cr remediation rate was increased from $59.2\%\;to\;99.0\%$. In the experiments using 0.005M of EDTA and 0.005M of boric acid composite as a flushing reagent at different pH regimes, Cd remediation rate was decreased from $92.4\%\;to;80.9\%$ as the pH was increased from 3 to 7. But Cr remediation rate was more effective ($70.4\%$) at pH 5 compared to the other pHs. Furthermore, at pH 5, Cd and Cr remediation rate was investigated at different molecular ratio of [EDTA]/[Boric aicd]; the optimized [EDTA]/[Boric acid] ratio was 0.01M/0.1M for Cd contaminated site and, as the concentration of boric acid was increased over 0.1M, Cr remediation rate was also increased. So the similar results were shown in the experiments using real contaminated soils which were sampled from a mining and a industrial area.

  • Bird-strike is one of the most important design factors for safety in the aviation industry. Bird-strikes have been the cause of significant damage to aircraft and rotorcraft structures and the loss of life. This study used DYTRAN software to simulate the transient response of an Euler-Lagrangian composite helicopter blade that has been impacted by a bird. The Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) method and a suitable equation of state were applied to model the bird. ALE was applied to the bird-strike analysis due to the large difference between the properties of the blade and bird. The debris of the bird was assumed to be a fluid and applied as Euler elements after the collision. Through the analysis of bird impacts, the leading-edge of the rotor blade (50.8 mm) was used to identify a positive margin of 1.18 based on the TSAI-FILL criteria. The results are assessed to be sufficiently reliable and may be evaluated to replace tests with various analysis conditions. The structural stability of the rotor blade could be assessed by applying various load conditions and different modeling methods in the future.

  • The purpose of designing composite lattice structure which applied to launching vehicle and tactical missile body is to minimize the thickness and weight for applied load. It is usually made of carbon fiber; fabricating with filament winding process over silicon mold, and provided with a window opening for inspection purpose if necessary. In this paper compression test is conducted without window opening in lattice structure and preliminary FEA is carried out to confirm its accuracy. And then FEA is performed for the case of window opening to evaluate the soundness and the safety factor of the structure. We have calculated for two kinds of window shape; rectangular one and hexagonal one. And we have calculated safety factors of the lattice structure with window opening in every case based on failure strength of rib and knot with varying the thickness and location of the window for hexagonal shape. Through our investigation, we have found out the followings; (1) the hexagonal shaped window is shown higher safety factor than rectangular one, (2) a window in a certain location is shown higher safety factor than others, (3) although the soundness of window structure is improved as increasing its thickness, a window of a certain thickness is shown higher safety factor than others because of stress concentration.

  • In this study, an antioxidant was extracted from Lonicera japonica and Sophora japonica L, which was optimized by using the central composite design (CDD) model of response surface methodology (RSM). The response value of CDC model establishes the extraction yield and the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity. The extraction time, volume ratio of ethanol/ultrapure water, and extraction temperature were selected as quantitative factors. According to the result of CDC, optimal extraction conditions of Lonicera japonica were as follows; the extraction time of 2.08 h, volume ratio of ethanol/ultrapure water of 41.53 vol.%, and extraction temperature of $55.08^{\circ}C$. At these conditions the expected results indicated that the yield and DPPH radical scavenging activity were estimated as 37.88 wt% and 40.37%, respectively. On the other hand, optimal extraction conditions of Sophora japonica L. could be found as the extraction time of 2.13 h, volume ratio of ethanol/ultrapure water of 62.89 vol.%, and temperature of $50.42^{\circ}C$. Under the conditions, the (possible) maximum values of yield and DPPH radical scavenging activity were found as 35.43 wt% and 55.7%, respectively.
