This paper presents a four-noded quadrilateral $C^0$ strain plate element for the analysis of thick laminated composite plates. The element formulation is based on: 1) the third-order shear deformation theory; 2) assumed strain element formulation; and 3) interrelated edge displacements and rotations along element boundaries. Unlike the existing displacement-type composite plate elements based on the third-order theory, which rely on the $C^1$-continuity formulation, the present plate element is of $C^0$-continuity, and its element stiffness matrix is evaluated explicitly. Because of the third-order expansion of the in-plane displacements through the thickness, the resulting theory and hence elements do not need shear correction factors. The explicit element stiffness matrix makes the present element more computationally efficient than the composite plate elements using numerical integration for the analysis of thick layered composite plates.
Current study on the buckling analysis of steel plate in composite structures normally focuses on applying finite element method to derive the buckling stress. However, it is time consuming, computationally complicated and tedious for general use in design by civil engineers. Therefore, in this study an analytical study is conducted to predict the buckling behavior of steel plates in composite structures. Hand calculation method was proposed based on energy principle. Novel buckling shapes with biquadratic functions along both loaded and unloaded direction were proposed to satisfy the boundary condition. Explicit solutions for predicting the critical local buckling stress of steel plate is obtained based on the Rayleigh-Ritz approach. The obtained results are compared with both experimental and numerical data. Good agreement has been achieved. Furthermore, the influences of key factors such as aspect ratio, width to thickness ratio, and elastic restraint stiffness on the local buckling performance are comprehensively discussed.
Due to the improvement of the composite resin and esthetic desire of the patient, amalgam restoration has been replaced by composite resin. However, still there are many unsolved problems, for example, technique sensitivity, polymerization shrinkage stress and limited mechanical properties. These factors results in fracture of the restoration and secondary caries of the tooth. Also the use of the dental bonding system should be used for the retention of the restoration. In this paper, I want to talk about the present and the future of the remineralizing component released from dental composite resin to overcome the secondary caries and there possibility in the clinical use.

There have been numerous accelerated aging laboratory tests for evaluating suitability of polymeric materials and devices. Aging test for materials and its full scale device has been conducted, but poor correlation of aging test such as service experience were observed. Service experience plays a key role in the utility section of composite insulators. A meaningful and reliable accelerated aging test is needed for evaluating composite insulator. During the service these insulators are subjected to aging stress such as humidity, pollution, and electrical field, and erosion and tracking of the weathershed occurs. This paper presents the criteria of reliability evaluation and evaluation facilities for 22.9 kV suspension composite insulator. We adopt the criteria of reliability evaluation consist of two test methods. One is CEA tracking wheel test for examining the tracking and erosion performance of composite insulator. The other is multi-stress aging test for examining effects of environmental factors such as UV, temperature, humidity, etc on composite insulator.
The present paper treats the free vibration problem of the masonry wall strengthened with thin composite plate by viscoelastic adhesive layer. For this goal two steps are considered in the analytical solution. In the first one, an efficient homogenisation procedure is given to provide the anisotropic properties of the masonry wall. The second one is dedicated to purpose simplified mathematical models related to both in-plane and out-of-plane vibration problems. In these models, the higher order shear theories (HSDT's) are employed for a more rigours description of the shear deformation trough the masonry wall and the composite sheet. Ritz's method is deployed as solution strategy in order to get the natural frequencies and their corresponding loss factors. The obtained results are validated with the finite element method (FEM) and then, a parametric study is undertaken for different kinds of masonry walls strengthened with composite sheets.

All-solid-state batteries are promising energy storage devices in which high-energy-density and superior safety can be obtained by efficient cell design and the use of nonflammable solid electrolytes, respectively. This paper presents a systematic study of experimental factors that affect the electrochemical performance of all-solid-state batteries. The morphological changes in composite electrodes fabricated using different mixing speeds are carefully observed, and the corresponding electrochemical performances are evaluated in symmetric cell and half-cell configurations. We also investigate the effect of the composite electrode thickness at different charge/discharge rates for the realization of all-solid-state batteries with high-energy-density. The results of this investigation confirm a consistent relationship between the cell capacity and the ionic resistance within the composite electrodes. Finally, a concentration-gradient composite electrode design is presented for enhanced power density in thick composite electrodes; it provides a promising route to improving the cell performance simply by composite electrode design.

In the optimized structure sizing, the optimization methods are inserted in this context in order to obtain satisfactory solutions, which can provide more economical structures, besides allowing the consideration of the factors related to the environmental impacts in the structural design. This work proposes a mathematical model for the optimization of steel-concrete composite beams aiming to minimize the monetary cost and the environmental impact, using the Harmonic Search optimization method. Discrete variables were the dimensions of the steel profiles and the thickness of the collaborating slab of the composite steel-concrete beam. The proposed model was implemented in Fortran programming language and based on improvements in the structure of the optimization method proposed by Medeiros and Kripka (2017). To prove the effectiveness and applicability of the model, as well as the Harmonic Search method, analyzes were performed with different configurations of steel-concrete composite beams, in order to provide guidelines that make the use of these systems more streamlined. In general, the Harmonic Search optimization method has proved to be efficient in the search for the optimized solutions, as well as important considerations on the optimization of the monetary and environmental costs of steel-concrete composite beams were obtained from the developed examples.
PURPOSE. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of surface treatments on microtensile bond strengths (MTBSs) of two types of indirect resin composites bonded to a conventional direct resin composite. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Indirect resin composite blocks of Ceramage and SR Nexco were prepared in a plastic mold having a dimension of $10{\times}10{\times}4\;mm$. These composite blocks were divided into three groups according to their surface treatments: Group1: Sandblast (SB); Group2: Sandblast and ultrasonically clean (SB+UL); Group3: Sandblast plus silane (SB+SI). After bonding with direct resin composite, indirect-direct resin composite blocks were kept in distilled water for 24 hours at $37^{\circ}C$ and cut into microbars with the dimension of $1{\times}1{\times}8\;mm$. Microbar specimens (n = 40 per group) were loaded using a universal testing machine. Failure modes and compositions were evaluated by SEM. The statistical analyses of MTBS were performed by two-way ANOVA and Dunnett's test at ${\alpha}=.05$. RESULTS. Surface treatments and brands had effects on the MTBS without an interaction between these two factors. For SR Nexco, the MTBSs of SB and SB+SI group were significantly higher than that of SB+UL. For Ceramage, the MTBSs of SB and SB+SI were significantly higher than that of SB+UL. The mean MTBS of the Ceramage specimens was significantly higher than that of SR Nexco for all surface treatments. CONCLUSION. Sandblasting with or without silane application could improve the bond strengths of repaired indirect resin composites to a conventional direct resin composite.

Intermetallic-matrix composites(IMCs) have the potential of combing matrix properties of oxidation resistance and high temperature stability with reinforcement properties of high specific strength and modulus. One of the major limiting factors for successful applications of these composite at high temperatures is the formation of interfacial reactions between matrix and ceramic reinforcement during composite process and during service. The purpose of the present investigation is to develop a better understanding of the nature of creep fracture mechanisms in a $Ni_{3}Al$ composite reinforced with both $TiB_{2}$ and SiC particulates. Emphasis is placed in the roles of the products of the reactions in determining the creep lifetime of the composite. In the present study, creep rupture specimens were tested under constant ranging from 180 to 350 MPa in vacuum at $760^{\cric}C$. The experimental data reveal that the stress exponent for power law creep for the composite is 3.5, a value close to that for unreinforced $Ni_{3}Al$. The microstructural observations reveal that most of the cavities lie on the grain boundaries of the $Ni_{3}Al$ matrix as opposed to the large $TiB_{2}/Ni_{3}Al$ interfaces, suggesting that cavities nucleate at fine carbides that lie in the $Ni_{3}Al$ grain boundaries as a result of the decomposition of the $SiC_{p}$. This observation accounts for the longer rupture times for the monolicthic $Ni_{3}Al$ as compared to those for the $Ni_{3}Al/SiC_{p}/TiB_{2} IMC$. Finally, it is suggested that creep deformation in matrix appears to dominate the rupture process for monolithic $Ni_{3}Al$, whereas growth and coalescence of cavities appears to dominate the rupture process for the composite.
The fiber material properties, elastic constant and strength, are the most important factors among the various material properties for the design of composite pressure vessel, because of it's dominant influence on the performance of composite pressure vessel. That is, the deformation and burst pressure of pressure vessel highly affected by the fiber material properties. Therefore, the establishment of test method for exact fiber material properties is a priority item to design a composite pressure vessel. However, the fiber material properties in filament wound pressure vessel is very sensitive on various processing variables (equipment, operator and environmental condition etc..) and size effect, so that it isn't possible to measure exact fiber material properties from existing test methods. The hydro-burst test with full scale pressure vessel is a best method to obtain fiber material properties, but it requires a enormous cost. Thus, this paper suggests a newly developed test method, hoop ring test, that is capable of pressure testing with ring specimens extracted from real composite pressure vessel. The fiber material properties from hoop ring test method showed good agreement with the results of hydro-burst test with full scale composite pressure vessels.
