Characterization of immune gene expression in rock bream (Oplegnathus fasciatus) kidney infected with rock bream iridovirus (RBIV) using microarray

  • Rock bream iridovirus (RBIV) causes high mortality and economic losses in rock bream (Oplegnathus fasciatus) aquaculture industry in Korea. Although, the immune responses of rock bream under RBIV infection have been studied, there is not much information at the different stages of infection (initial, middle and recovery). Gene expression profiling of rock bream under different RBIV infection stages was investigated using a microarray approaches. In total, 5699 and 6557 genes were significantly up- or down-regulated over 2-fold, respectively, upon RBIV infection. These genes were grouped into categories such as innate immune responses, adaptive immune responses, complements, lectin, antibacterial molecule, stress responses, DNA/RNA binding, energy metabolism, transport and cell cycle. Interestingly, hemoglobins (α and β) appears to be important during pathogenesis; it is highly up-regulated at the initial stage and is gradually decreased when the pathogen most likely multiplying and fish begin to die at the middle or later stage. Expression levels were re-elevated at the recovery stage of infection. Among up-regulated genes, interferon-related genes were found to be responsive in most stages of RBIV infection. Moreover, X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis (XIAP)-associated factor 1 (XAF1) expression was high, whereas expression of apoptosis-relate genes were low. In addition, stress responses were highly induced in the virus infection. The cDNA microarray data were validated using quantative real-time PCR. Our results provide novel inslights into the broad immune responses triggered by RBIV at different infection stages.

낮은 도로 조명의 노면 휘도 실태 분석에 대한 연구 (The Study on the Analysis of Road Surface Brightness of Low Mounted Road Lighting System)

  • Low road lighting is a lighting device that complements the shortcomings of existing pillar-type street lights. It is a lighting device that emits light from the side of the road surface and adjusts the luminance of the road surface like a light carpet. In this paper, to achieve full commercialization, we analyzed the luminance of the installed road surface and studied whether lighting could replace existing road lighting. In this study, the LMK (Luminance Measurement Camera) LABSOFT program was used to measure and analyze the surface luminance of road lighting, and the RELUX program was used to evaluate and analyze the simulation performance to determine light-based lighting conditions. A study was conducted to determine whether replacing pillar-type road lighting with low-level road lighting in a real environment would ensure comfortable and safe night vision for drivers at night.

골절의 약침치료에 대한 임상 연구 동향 (A Review of Domestic and International Clinical Research Trends on Pharmacopuncture Treatment for Fractures)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze trends in domestic and international clinical research studies on pharmacopuncture treatment for fractures. We searched five online databases (PubMed, CNKI, RISS, KISS, and OASIS), and selected a total of 13 clinical research studies from Korea and China. Selected studies were analyzed according to publication year, subject, intervention, treatment method, evaluation scale, adverse event, risk of bias, etc. A total of 10 case studies and 3 randomized controlled trials were included. The study subjects were more often female, and the most common type of fracture was vertebral compression fracture. In Korea, herbal medicine preparations and bee venom were used for pharmacopuncture solution, whereas in China, both herbal medicine preparations and Western medicine preparations were used. All studies commonly used local acupoint needling, and in most cases, the treatment period for case study was less than 1 month, and the observation period of randomized controlled trials was diverse. The most frequently used evaluation scale was numeric rating scale, adverse events were mentioned in only three studies, and no adverse events were reported. Overall risk of bias of all included randomized controlled trials was judged "some concerns". According to this study, pharmacopuncture treatment for fractures was found to be relatively effective and safe, but research that complements the limitations of this study is needed.

고주파수분센서를 통한 고강도 콘크리트 단위수량 평가에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Evaluation of Unit-Water Content of High Strength Concrete by Frequency Domain Reflectometry Sensor )

  • In this study, unit-water content was measured using a frequency domain reflecometry(FDR) sensor that complements the problems of the existing unit-water content measurement method to evaluate the unit-water content affecting the workability, durability, and quality of high strength concrete. The experiment used the unit-water content of high strength concrete as a variable, and the accuracy and probability distribution of the unit-water content measured through deep learning were analyzed for the output value output through the FDR sensor. In the case of the unit-water content predicted by deep learning analysis, a high accuracy and high distribution of more than 93% were found within the error range of ± 10 kg/m3. In the future, research is needed to secure high reliability by utilizing data obtained through experiments with various variables.

Economic Valuation of Food E-labels for Restaurant Offerings

  • Purpose: This study explores the potential use of food e-labels for restaurants to solve the current inadequacies in food labeling within the restaurant sector. Additionally, the study examines the feasibility and scalability of implementing e-labels for food labeling purposes, investigates consumers' perceptions of e-labels for restaurant offerings, and assesses the value of implementing e-labels. Research design, data and methodology: The value of food e-labels was estimated using the contingent valuation method. Samples were selected from the survey, considering the distribution of population, using stratified sampling method. In the survey, respondents were provided with information explaining the food e-label and were asked whether they would accept the proposed amount for food e-labeling. Results: Estimation results revealed that the individual demographic factors of the respondents significantly influenced their willingness to pay (WTP), along with their food purchasing behavior and the degree of food labeling checking. Based on the estimated results, WTP was calculated to be 2,624 KRW. Conclusions: The study findings can serve as a reference for related businesses and policies, suggesting the need for further research and detailed discussions. To activate food e-labeling, promotion and education are essential complements to mere regulatory implementation.

  • The main purpose of the study is to identify the key aspects of modern innovative research in the field of education. In the modern informatized world, education is becoming a decisive factor in social development and an important component in the development of the human personality, increasing respect for human rights and freedoms. Today it is quite obvious that without the necessary education a person will not be able to provide himself with proper living conditions and realize himself as a person. The high level of education of the population is an important factor that positively influences the creation of favorable conditions for the full realization of the rights and freedoms of man and citizen. Today, active and interactive teaching methods are widely used. The use of interactive teaching methods ensures complete immersion of students in the learning process and is the main source of learning. The radical difference between traditional and interactive learning is that the student not only replenishes and strengthens his knowledge, but also complements and constructs new ones. The methodology includes a number of theoretical methods. As a result of the study, current trends and prerequisites of modern innovative research in the field of education were investigated.

A Narrative Review on the Advance of Probiotics to Metabiotics

  • Recently, the term metabiotics has emerged as a new concept of probiotics. This concept entails combining existing probiotic components with metabolic by-products improve specific physiological functionalities. Representative ingredients of these metabiotics include short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), bacteriocins, polysaccharides, and peptides. The new concept is highly regarded as it complements the side effects of existing probiotics and is safe and easy to administer. Known health functions of metabiotics are mainly immune regulation, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, and brain-neurological health. Research has been actively conducted on the health benefits related to the composition of intestinal microorganisms. Among them, the focus has been on brain neurological health, which requires extensive research. This study showed that neurological disorders, such as depression, anxiety, autism spectrum disorder, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease, can be treated and prevented according to the gut-brain axis theory by changing the intestinal microflora. In addition, various studies are being conducted on the immunomodulatory and anticancer effects of substances related to metabiotics of the microbiome. In particular, its efficacy is expected to be confirmed through human studies on various cancers. Therefore, developing various health functional effects of the next-generation probiotics such as metabiotics to prevent or treatment of various diseases is anticipated.

다중 전송률을 지원하는 무선 메쉬 네트워크에서 지연시간 최소화를 위한 브로드캐스트트리 생성 알고리즘 (A Broadcast Tree Construction Algorithm for Minimizing Latency in Multi-Rate Wireless Mesh Networks)

  • 다중 전송률을 지원하는 무선 메쉬 네트워크에서 송신 노드는 통신 채널의 적정한 전송률 선택을 통해 통신의 전송범위를 동적으로 조절할 수 있다. 이러한 특성을 이용하여 다중 전송률 무선 메쉬 네트워크에서의 브로드캐스트 알고리즘인 WCDS에서는 적은 지연시간을 위한 브로드캐스트 방법을 제안하였다. 본 논문에서는 WCDS를 보완하여 트리 생성시 고려하는 노드가 같은 비교값을 가졌을 때 임의의 노드 선택이 아닌 소스노드로부터의 지연시간을 고려하여 전체 지연시간 최소화를 위한 브로드캐스트 알고리즘인 MinLink_WCDS 알고리즘을 제안한다. 제안하는 MinLink_WCDS 알고리즘의 성능을 검증하기 위해서 802.11 파라미터를 기본으로 한 다중 전송률 무선 메쉬 네트워크에서 시뮬레이션을 통해서 기존의 기법들과 비교하였다.

개 복부초음파영상의 프랙탈 분석과 히스토그램 분석의 비교평가 (Comparative Assessment of Fractal Analysis and Histogram in Canine Abdominal Ultrasonographic Images)

  • This study was carried out to show at the fractal analysis complements the practical disadvantage of gray level histogram which is designed to measure the quantitative classification of echo patterns in ultrasonographic image of parenchymal organs such as spleen and kidney and it is a practical method of measurement for quantitative classification. By using ultrasonographs, kidney and spleen of 21 healthy Beagles were fixed under different gain settings to be scanned for echo patterns and results were analyzed with body gray level histogram and fractal analysis. Then it was compared based on the statistical data obtained. Although there was a proportionate increase in histogram along with gain settings, there were consistencies in the fractal dimension. In terms of quantitative analysis in ultrasonographic images, fractal analysis is concluded to complement the practical disadvantage of gray level histogram.

복합 필터링을 이용한 IPTV-VOD 프로그램 추천 시스템 연구 (A Study of IPTV-VOD Program Recommendation System Using Hybrid Filtering)

  • 본 연구는 IPTV 환경에서 사용자의 취향에 맞는 VOD 프로그램을 추천할 수 있는 시스템을 새로이 제안하였다. 제안 시스템은 내용기반 필터링과 협업 필터링의 장 단점을 상호 보완한 복합 필터링에 의한 IPTV-VOD 프로그램 추천 시스템으로, 각 필터링 기법의 프로그램 선호도(program preference) 값을 단일 지표(single-scale)로 비교 평가할 수 있는 수단을 제공함으로써 실질적인 복합 필터링 추천 시스템을 구축하였다. 사용자의 프로그램 선호 취향을 나타내는 사용자 프로파일(user profile)은 사용자의 과거 프로그램 시청 이력뿐만 아니라 사용자와 유사한 이웃 사용자들의 취향을 1주일 단위로 갱신되는 프로그램 선호도와 중분류 선호도로 표현하였기 때문에 보다 정확한 프로그램 추천이 가능하다. 제안 시스템의 성능평가를 위해 시청률 조사기관인 닐슨리서치의 24주분 지상파 및 케이블 방송 시청 데이터를 IPTV 형식에 맞게 재구성하여 사용하였으며, 다양한 실험을 통해 그 실용성을 입증하였다.
